  1. Pete, Julia (Mrs. Bomb) and I will be there and will bring some tasty morsels!
  2. What's a "gas log", I usually make a couple of those of those everyday , but I don't think you want those for your fireplace! :ahhhhh: :fro:
  3. I'll check with the wife, sounds good to me. Will let you know for sure. :fro: :Xmas:
  4. Christy's right, don't ever go to a small hospital unless you're in the middle of frickin no where, at least for trauma that is! Go to Las Vegas (UMC or Sunrise both do a good job with trauma). Take an ambulance when in doubt, even if you have to wait...bad things can happen during that drive in. In Christy's case this would have not mattered, the staff in the ER had more than enough time and warning signs to treat appropriately! Anything we can do to help, Christy, let us know. Greg & Julia
  5. I have to convince our group Dumont instead of Amargosa....should be easy, but only if we can camp with some DDR peeps! We have about 4 rigs in our group. Late Thursday thru Monday for me!
  6. Wow, first off I would like to say how sorry I am to hear about Christy's and her family's loss. The medical issues in the Vegas valley area are some of the worst case in the country. I know a nurse that works at Pahrumps hospital (part-time) and never heard her say anything bad about the docs (doesn't mean it can't happen). But, she has told me about numerous cases of the Paramedics there being very incompetent. I have been involved in EMS/ER Nursing for over 25 years. I worked in Pennsylvania, Texas and now Nevada. This is the worst area I have seen. This is also the fastest growing area in the country. Be advised that anything I say is in no way an excuse for poor health care or someone not doing their job to fullest. My wife and I both work in busy ER's. We've seen it all from dead babies to mutilated trauma victims. Also we are constantly abused and taken advantage of from the misfits of society (homeless who fake chest pain just to get a 3 day stay, drug abusers who punch and kick and spit at us, my wife and I have had our lives treatened more times than anyone would believe). You've heard of the 6-12 hour waits in the ER to see a doctor.....well, it's just going to get worse, and swearing and treatening the triage nurse isn't going to get you seen any faster. We don't have any open beds!!! We have people who are admitted to the hospital and have to be kept in the ER for days, Too many people -not enough hospital personnel! 8 Thousand people move here a month! Las vegas area doesn't even come close compared to Cal. in pay. Traveling nurses come here and find out they have to take care of ICU patients in the ER and they walk out the same day. It's not like this in most parts of the country! The burn out rate here is incredible! Nove of this is any excuse for poor diagnosis. But as someone mentioned getting a good doctor is hit and miss! I personnaly know more good doctors than bad. Insurance company's have played a huge role in this. Many dictate what tests they deem are truely neccessary and what aren't (arm chair quarterback/what they will and what they won't pay for). Of course management comes down on the doctors who order "excessive tests" and they get hit from both sides. These physicians have to walk a fine line in doing what is right (and not getting sued from a misdiagnosis) to having upper management coming down on them and losing their positions......yes we have bills and families too. Don't know what the answer is, but local government needs to be more procative with healthcare and less with casionos (but hospital don't make money for politicians!). So there you go. Christy, I think the doctor who misdiagmosed your father should be investigated. Did he order a CAT scan? X-rays will not show internal bleeding. Somethings cannot be seen in the first few hours or even the first day, even with x-rays or CT's. In those cases we either admit (24 hours), if we have a high level of suspician, or we have the patient follow-up the next day.....4 days seems like a long time for this type of injury. Alot of times it's a subjective thing...you have to go by prior experineces/gut feeling, not everything in life is black and white. Remember doctors and nurses are human beings and it's not easy to be perfect 100% of the time. I haven't meet a perfect human being yet. The majority of health care workers really care and want to do their best! This is a very difficult job and if you aren't a person who cares about other people, you won't last long! Lastly, I want to again say sorry to Christy for the loss of her father. Let's hope we never hear about a story like this again!
  7. I thought "Coast to Coast" went out of buisness. Have I been driving to Nevada Bolt for nothing?
  8. Thanks ynot, I'll give him a call. :icon_twisted:
  9. Just a tad overkill on the trailer axles/tires, ah? I know if 4 are good....12 have to be better. $180 K+ and no where to sleep
  10. Anyone know of an attorney in the Henderson area I can use for a buisness lawsuit. Company owes me product that has been paid for in full, and has not delivered. Thanks.
  11. Sorry for the confusion of my last post. I meant just like Dunefreak said....its sucks that anyone should die like that......IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN! I've heard a handfull of accounts of people dying from wormtracks. I remember about 2 years ago, 2 kids riding on quad (I know that's wrong), crashed and died that way. Some things just can't be avoided....fate....but no excuses for this to happen. Once again, sorry for any confusion or any hard feelings.
  12. Time to service that gene, oil change, air filter, fuel filter, spark plug......every 100 hours, don't forget.
  13. Moved here from back east, we only had 550 acres ( Silver Lake Dunes), no camping, only a parking lot, you guys are so spoiled and all you can do is fight and dis each other. Just kidding....only the bad apples! I started going to dumont 6 years ago. It wasn't that long ago but it sure has changed. I used to go on off weekends and I thought the finger dunes were one of the most fun duneable areas. Kind of like a sand highway to the big dunes.....an appetizer......the drink before dinner......opening that one gift on Christmas Eve........that kiss on the first date, cause next time you knew you were going to get some .....well, you know what I mean . Maybe we should start parking between the fingers and not on them. A new rule....no camping 100' from dunes....? :shocked2: Don't know what the answer to the kids riding. Old days they didn't make little bikes and quads, so it wasn't much of an issue. Too bad little D wasn't closer. I too have gone weary of the crowds and morons....I won't go on Holidays......I get too upset and want to fight.
  14. I think the big picture is whatever we can do to keep the death toll down we should do it. Whenever someone is killed it just gives the eco-terrosits more ammo. Yes it can be a dangerous sport, but dying because of a worm track....... :shocked2:
  15. What ever happened to "leave it like you found it". Guess we can't get upset at those punks at Glamis for digging a trench at the base of comp so people get hurt. Never answered the point about breaking out the shovels and leaving it like you found it, or asking your kids to do a little work. That's what life is; work hard so you get the privledge to play......we seem to have forgotten this these days. When I was young chores had to be done before playtime, even on weekends. Maybe they won't dig those wormholes so deep if they know they have to smoothed out when it's time to leave. Amazing how there is thousands of acres to ride but we have to limit it to one small track. Might as well buy an acre of desert land and save the travel.
  16. Had mine for about 2 1/2 yrs, excellento, mine sits in storage with only a solar panel. 6 volters were designed to run golf carts and can take being completely drained and recharged thousands of times over without damage. Don't try that even with deep marine 12 volters. This mod is a must unless you want to change batts every season.
  17. Take responsiblity for your kids actions......hell, give them the shovel....maybe a little hard work after a couple of days play will install some work ethic. If your dog takes a dump on public land you're expected to pick it up! I hope everyone would read these boards and think....oh sh*t, I think that's the worm hole that my FAMILY made that killed that guy, "oh well, didn't bring my bobcat....ha, ha!.....live with that the rest of your life. Kind of like I shoot my pistol up in the air and the bullet came down and killed someone...."I didn't shoot at anyone"...but I did kill someone because of my irresponsible actions, this did happen in my hometown on new years eve....he was prosecuted and convicted. More families should go on group rides, riding the flats does not teach you're kid to ride the dunes. Instead everyone just sits around bs'ing and drinking while the kids create a dust bowl. Get off you a$$ and take your kids out on the dunes. I know, "my kid has a 50 and it won't get arond"....lots of flat fune area and little dumont. And if the kids want to wine about wanting to ride all day long...teach them a little self discipline/self control. I worked as a pediatric RN in busy ER's for 5 years and I saw alot of kids who were the parents!
  18. Socaldmax, did you use a standard household double key deadbolt? Any pics? Thanks
  19. I went old school and put large cast anchor in the concrete and one through the garage door on the outside. Then when it closes they meet and a big ole Kritponite locks it closed.....don't use the garage for the daily driver so it's not a big deal. Also watched a show on home security and they talked about a lock box to keep spare keys/garage door openers, ect. in. Bought one on line with a combo lock, anchored it to the wall with 3" screws. Cabinet is very heavy duty, has a clutch mech if someone tries to force it open. Now extra keys aren't lying around if someone breaks in. Next I want to put a secondary door lock on the side door of the toy hauler......trying not to make it too bulky, any ideas>alarm not an option since it sits at storage and cannot be plugged in.
  20. Dunes look pretty crappy with that burnt grass on them....nothing a few paddles couldn't butify!
  21. Sounds like Kelso Dunes.....been closed since the late 80's I do believe .....thanks Clinton.....tree hugh'in, liberal Democrat peice of monkey......oh, sorry. Closest you can ride there is the tip of Kelso called Razor (spelling ?).....not very big and from what I heard not worth the trip if you're a sand junkie! My dream (legacy) would be to re-open Kelso and Eureka dunes....Riiiiight!
  22. If anyone would like to call Mr. Patterson and give him a piece of their mind, his # is; (removed). Maybe if we make his life as miserable as he is trying to make ours he won't have so much time to count weeds and lizards! :rainbow1:
  23. Just do it, go on ASA site, here, off-road.com, rock crawler sites, every motorhead site you can think of. Get Sand Sports to write a small news article, ask other leading off-road mags to do the same, have BRC, COVRA, SCORE, SNORE and others put it on their web sites and newsletters. Make it the day after Thanksgiving weekend so everyone is already on the road anyhow! Pick a date, follow above instructions, get their early and see how many show up, if enough, unload and start riding. Contact the news media, this is a great deterant if LEO's show up and try getting ruff. We need national coverage to show we're serious and we're not going to be pushed any further. I'm sick of all this polically correct BS; "don't go in the closed areas", "let's have a clean-up weekend to show we care about the dunes", ect. These people don't give a sh!t if we were to sacrifice our first born children for them and the dunes. They will continue to take from us until there is nothing left! What we need to hear is "we better quit fu@kin with the dunners or there going to kick our a$$e$! Maybe they could spend their energy stopping all the BS solictation mail I get every day and save a few million trees a year! Hell, I'de help em with that one! It's time to matters in our own hands, we the people, together are stong. No politicians are going to help us until we make ourselves a major pain in someone's a$$! We've been trying this nice crap for years, and every year we lose another chunk! How much money did we spend at Glamis, boy that was worth it! We must start taking back a chunk every year, but everyone must be willing to sacrifice! Protest, b*tch, and yes break the law! What could they do...sue us for property damage, "oh did I move some sand around"! We organize a short demonstration at Kelso, followed by a short ride on the dunes, have a secret meeting place with our tow vehicles, and an alternate if LEO's show up. Now is the time for EXTREME!!
  24. Kill that fu@kin lizard now and add it to the list of spieces killed off! I say we all take up arms, pack up, go take over Kelso, see if they can stop hundreds of thousands of angry off-roaders at high speeds tearing up the dunes. Hell they can't /won't stop illegal aliens from marching and stopping traffic! We need a "destroy the environment" terroist group to balance things out. I really don't care how ignorant this sounds right now; rising gas prices, Iran making nukes, more middle east terrorist threats against the US, and now more and more of this BS, better have a dam good time now-who knows what tomorrow will bring!
  25. Don29palms, what you haul in the bed (payload) and you tow (GVWR) are two different things, actually if you remove your truck bed you can haul even more . Tow Boss, 4x4, crew cab, long bed, maximum loaded trailer weight (legal) 18,100 lbs. To prove dual rear stability, find a nice freeway on ramp, test drive a DRW at aggressive speeds, then repeat with SRW, better yet repeat with lifted SRW, you'll see the difference. Or as a couple of snow birds who told me about towing with their last SRW that had a rear tire blow out and rolled the rig almost going off a bridge....now they'll only tow with a dually due to the extra safety margin with the extra rear tires. Glamis dunes.com has a really good thread about a guy that lost everything he owns, wife divorced him, and most of his paychecks will go to someone else for the rest of his life......due to an accident towing with an overloaded truck, and killing two other people.
