  1. Thanks for asking.

I actually accepted both offers, and I'm giving the better offer time to materialize. However, it is going on 4 months without a paycheck, and l had it advertised the whole time, so when I got a bite on my CL ad, I jumped.

I'm kinda sad to see it gone, because it woulda been fun, but oh well...cash $ is good.

  2. My wife and I are looking to get out of CA. We are considering many places with one being Vegas.

For my job all I need is an airport but my wife needs decent employment. She has applied at many places and cities and adds in her cover letter that she can be 'there' at a moments notice should they want a face to face interview. Call backs are few and far between. I'd much rather have her a career lined up before we move. Picking a city and moving before she finds one is quite risky!

She applied for a couple Nevada state positions and even took the basic state fiscal exam (in Vegas) and passed.

She is currently in the pharmaceutical industry as a manager/shipping & receiving/logistics/import export compliance/3 PL Management (3rd party logistics management)/supply chain.

She is looking at pretty much any industry that could use her skills.

Any leads or 'ins' would be much appreciated. I can e-mail a resume to anyone that may be able to pass it along to your manager etc etc.

Not looking at just Vegas, but also Reno area, Idaho, and Arizona.

I figure once we move we'd rent a place for a while until we figure out a place we'd like to buy. Current real estate advice is also appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mike

P.S. She has a southern accent which should help ;) jk!

Few and far between sounds familiar.

The CA market sucks; I can tell you that!

I have been hunting for 3 months now. I do have 2 good leads, but it seems to be all about who you know. I've applied for a lot of state/gov. jobs, but I've been advised that they are only looking for vets right now...politics :dunno:On the applications, they all ask for gender/race which seem to disqualify me :P Some even ask if you are a "diversity" candidate, which in the fine print means gay/lesbian....Guess I'm wrong for that too....Not sure why any of those 4 questions have any business on a preliminary application, but that just opens up a bigger can of worms. It should be best for the job.

Good luck on the search, and congrats on the exodus!

  3. Got me a wife with this truck. Sold my lowered S-10, and raised my altitude a bit. It had a " death wobble between 30-40 mph, but otherwise was a bad ol truck. Hit comp hill out at glamis a few times, back in the good ol days ( )( ) :P

  4. ^I saw a rail burn in Glamis several years ago. I will never forget it. The only good thing to come of it, is I learned to ALWAYS carry a knife...cut the belts and get them outta there. You never know, wether your are driving to starbucks, or tearing up the dunes...I have three kids in the car, and my wife usually...needless to say, I've spent a lot of money on knives since then.

Great suggestions: first aid kit, and a blanket. May I suggest an extra tie down: of course for the general/practical applications, but in a medical emergency, a tourniquet...

I can see both side on the ranger issue, but yeah, the night starting the 4 day weekend ought to have some presence. Taxation without representation, sound familiar?

My very first toy of any kind the first time I took it out to ride... A CR 500 trike conversion. That thing usually took me 15 minutes to start, mandatory to boot up, and wore me out kickin' it over and over and over. Nevertheless, 1 trip to the dunes and the fever hasn't broke yet :P

Wasn't long and I needed to ditch the training wheels...got me a bike and went riding whenever work would allow it....and sometimes even when it didn't:

  6. Andy thanks for asking. Now that my Infection caused by the operation has been taken care of I am now feeling 95%. I have already dropped a few pounds asd getting myself into an exercise routine. Damn I am totally out of shape and as my wife says well rounded. I has changed my life not one single puff of a cigarette and plan to keep it that way. I can say it is not easy but a Must!

I also have high blood pressure and all the symptoms along with Diabetes. If goes as planned I can get off the meds next year if my Diet, Weight Loss and exercise continues. It a GOAL. I can yes Stress will be at the top of the list for a while especially now I have 10 employees and a payroll to meet twice a month.

I always told my wife that I, in fact was in shape...round is a shape...but it's time for me to take it serious now. When I read your story, I knew I had to go in; it had been 8 or 10 years since my last visit to the Dr. He did an EKG, but all came back fine. I go back next week to get the bloodwork results. I know he's going to blame stress...I just have to figure out how to handle it better.

Keep us informed on your progress.

Glad to hear you're feeling a lil better. :headbang1:

  7. I built my first car too. It was a ton of fun, and a pain in the :booty: as well...as I built mine, found out the used stuff I bought wouldn't work right; 1 step forward, 2 steps back kinda thing. I changed the suspension from beam to 20" travel A arms front and rear. I stretched an old high jumper frame into a 4 seater. I learned a lot about fabrication, and heim angles, and trial and error. In the long run, I had $25k tied up in it, and took a substantial loss, but I look back at it as good times. I enjoy build pics, so keep them coming!

  8. Hey Jack,

It's been a month; how's recovery coming along for ya?

I went in and found out I have high blood pressure. Overweight, and a LOT of stress in my life right now, I figured as much :(

There's a toll stress takes we don't always acknowledge, and I figure you probably have some with your work too... Just thought I'd ask you how's life treating ya?

  9. it should say Topic Moderation just below your first post. Just give it a click.

For future reference. It's at the bottom of the topic, not under your first post. ;)

I know I've brought it up before, but that link doesn't appear on my screen either. I thought maybe I wasn't as tech savvy as I thought, being I couldn't figure this out. I figured I must be the only one...I thought maybe I'd been huffing too many diesel fumes :P I have a few old ads that I've tried to delete and clean up the board, but couldn't. Thanks for the pic Pete, as where to look, but that link is definitely not available for me on my screen.

  10. About every 2 trips for me as well. N/A LS1. I don't ever change because of how hard the engine worked, or a break down in viscosity... It's a contaminant issue. All the dust and sand we drive thru eventually gets in there and wreaks havoc....IMO. Oil is cheap, a rebuild would be another story.

  11. I have had a set of 4 Snap On 1.5" straps for a few years now. Just went and bought another set. I think they're at Costco for around $20/4... Ratchet style. Great for quads, bikes, and bbq's.. They are red, so with my pickup it's a no brainer. The strap itself is nice and thick, so they'll hold up to a decent amount of abrasion/wear. Not the biggest and baddest out there I'm sure, but these are the only straps I've ever been impressed with over the years.
