  1. Same thing as White Rhino, I take casual strolls through the dunes with my daughter who is almost 3 with her in a baby seat strapped in the back seat of a rhino with 4 point harness and 2" ratchet strap which makes it TIGHT. Talked to rangers as well they've never said a word. Been doing this since she was born. Back then she didn't have to have a helmet but with the new law they do. (everyone in a sxs does) so depending on your childs age/size it could be difficult for them to support a helmet. Have fun!

  2. Know your limits, don' try to be joe cool and push things passed your skill level...Not only does it put you at risk it puts other innocents around you at risk. It's not just you out there!

    Great thread Pete!

One thing that was said to me years ago was actually about power tools, but I apply it anywhere that I am doing anything where I can get hurt.

"The minute you get comfortable with a tool, put it down and walk away! You have now entered the area of making a mistake that can and almost certainly will hurt you!"

I feel the same goes for the dunes, and many other things for that matter. Once you become comfortable with danger, you start letting certain things slide and not paying full attention, that's when accidents happen.

Agreed, A wise man once told me when I bought my first street bike at 18...The second this bike doesn't scare you, sell it. Now by no means am I saying sell your toys..but never think you're invincible, a little fear is ok, it keeps your alert and doesn't let you get complacent. Be safe guys and girls! Live to ride another day...

  3. The Baker route and "back" route both have a steep grade. The back way you have a set of switch backs where you have to be careful of on coming traffic coming blind around the corner. With that being said I've never gone to Dumont the Baker way it probably takes 30 mins longer, but I've driven to Cali plenty of times and that loooooong grade would suck. West on Blue Diamond every time for me!

  4. Can't make it out for the weekend before Halloween due to work, so i'm looking to make up for it by going Veterans day weekend AND Thanksgiving. (Thanksgiving is locked in)

I know it's a a month out but I wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone was planning on heading out that weekend. The actualy Holiday is Tuesday Nov 11th so we'd prob go Saturday-Tuesday.

Getting a great job after getting out of the Air Force is a blessing but acruing vaction time and starting at 0 right before Dumont season sucks :(

    Lemme know!

  5. Well it was just a day trip for me but a great day it was. Rolled in a few minutes after 6:00am as the sun was just starting to peek and was loving the nice cool weather. Dropped the quad out of the truck bed and was ready to go feel that sand under the wheels. Started meeting people as they woke up, showed up....and a few minutes later everyone was firing up! Man that first ride was as close to perfect as you can get, smooth sand, good lines, cool breeze, and a great pace.

The next ride was more of the same..it was getting warm but as long as you were moving it was alllll gooood.

I think I loaded up around 1:00pm to head out, I planned on doing another run but after the group effort of snatching out a stuck motor home I was beat. If I had a car I probably would have done another but that quad wears me out! Came home and talked to the wife about a car lol.

It was great finally meeting you all and even better riding with you. Thanks Terry for leading some great runs and sorry for getting you sideways in that motor home!

    Until next time...

Sorry to hear that man, rest up and lets go enjoy a good day :)

I am still hoping to be out there all weekend so you guys are welcome to come park over by us.

Sounds good looking forward to meeting you guys.

  7. Update for anyone interested. My truck passed smog today "with flying colors" said the guy. :headbang1: I won't be posting on a public forum what state my truck was in or where I took it but if you're in the same boat as I was in and would like some info PM me.

  8. You don't have to run a tune the blows smoke, to not pass the test. Put your programmer back to stock run it around for a few days, then go test.

putting my programmer back to stock is easy, it's spending half a day under my truck in 100 degree heat putting my stock exhaust back on that is a PAIN.

Register in Pahrump and you dont have to smog

    Capt

Got an address I can use? :)

  9. Thanks for the info. Not plugging into the OBD is great news, I should pass the opacity test I don't run tunes that smoke at all. Sounds like a legit spot Terry thanks ill give em a shot.

Pete, do they just visually look under the hood or do they look underneath to see if the CAT, NOX and DPF filters are on?

Adam I don't blame you I felt the sale way. PMing you..
