  1. Around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, a 3 year old little girl was hit by a buggy near one of the finger dunes in the camp area. It was a hit and run. Life flight was called out and she was transported. Update 10/30/2016: Little Regan is recovering. Posted via her father on our Facebook page, "My daughter is doing well. She suffered a 5 inch laceration from the bridge of her nose up to the top of her forehead just below her hair line, A small gash to the right side of her head, some minor cuts to her right arm and possibly going to have some bruising. Thank god she did not have any internal injuries or anything life threatening. This could have been so much worse." 2. Duners were blown away with what rolled into Dumont Dunes this year for Halloween Weekend! Star Wars characters Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca and Princess Leia pulled up to Comp Hill in the Landspeeder X-34. Cel phones and cameras couldn’t come out quick enough. Everyone surrounded the homemade creation and were in awe at how far these guys got into the Halloween spirit. The Landspeeder drove up and down the rows at Comp Saturday night playing the Star Wars music and handing out candy to everyone. Between the music, the costumes, and lightsaber swords, the force was strong with this crew! Duners loved it and thanked them for their hard work and dedication. Once again, Howard, Trish, Walter and Laura, of Las Vegas, wowed Dumont beyond everyone's expectations. photo by Neal Rideout photo by Neal Rideout photo by Neal Rideout photo by Neal Rideout The Story Behind the Star Wars Landspeeder RZR Halloween weekend at Dumont is one of the most festive weekends of the year. For some people, it’s a fun excuse to throw on a funny wig or go as far as wearing full costume or string some orange lights up on their rig. Some choose to take things to a completely different level though. Meet Howard and Walter of Las Vegas, NV. You may remember their past Halloween RZR creations such as the Kia commercial hamster-car or the Flintstones mobile. Each year they’ve lifted their creations off the RZR chassis and hung on to them in Howard’s shop. They made such an impression at Dumont and on the internet with these builds that they felt like they had to take it up a notch this year. I think they succeeded in doing that, don’t you? After the Flintstone's car, the bar had to be raised even further. Howard's wife, Trish, came up with the Star Wars theme idea and from there the build was in full force. Since Star Wars is so hot (especially lately), they completely converted their same 2015 RZR XP 1000 into the easily recognized Landspeeder. A photo of the Landspeeder was printed up as a reference for the build, taped to the workbench, and work began! They started with the same bone stock, 4 seat RZR 1000 that was used for the previous builds. They built a skeleton frame around the outside to make up the overall shape of the Landspeeder then added sheet metal to form the body. Most people would probably stop there. Actually, most people would never even go that far in the first place! They then refined the body with bondo, paint, and added fully functioning jets. Many hours went into shaping the body and getting the paint just right. They didn’t skimp on the details. For example, they added the authentic dent in the front and even went as far as building a custom Star Wars Landspeeder style steering wheel, windshield and dash with functioning lights and controls. Even though they had this thing looking identical to the X-34 Landspeeder, that was not enough. Presentation is key! So in addition to the smoking, LED-lit jets, they added an outdoor sound system to blast the Star Wars theme songs. The seats were raised in order to show off their elaborate Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia costumes. Hundreds of hours went into this project and they managed to pull it off in just a few weeks leading up to Halloween Weekend. Howard, Walter, Trish and Laura have blown away the community once again and outdone themselves. Any idea what they might have in store for next year? Suggestions? Build thread by @b370... 3. We were there when it happened. I pretty much knew when we were there with him that it was bad, but I was hoping for the best. So sad! It happened in 1 second. I assume your niece was the one that was hit by the car.. I heard about her, and was just thinking how scary that is. I really hope she is ok, and I hope thay catch the idiot who did it!

  5. Thanks for this post. I'm the Aunt of Regan the 3yr old hit by the sandrail Saturday morning. First off I want to start with she survived this traumatic hit and run. She spent a day in PICU; needed surgery to repair her face that was literally split in half from her hair line to the middle of her nose. She also had several lacerations on her hand and another gash on her head as well as some internal bruising across her chest. She's been downgraded as of this morning. Now I want to get the word out.... we have been duning here at Dumont for 10yrs. We have always camped at the bottom of the1st finger and have cones and caution tape up. We usually don't allow the kids on the finger due to this exact fear... but this particular morning my brother in law brought his 3yr old twins up on the finger to play supervised at around 9am. Regan descended down the finger to dig in the sand; she was about 6 ft from the top where her dad and twin brother where when the sandrail came across the top of the finger then goosed it to the right around the Dad and twin brother eventually running over Regan. We believe she was hit dead on then tumbled under the sandrail which is when I looked up because I heard the screams from Regans Dad and then witnessed Regan being literally spit out of the back of the sandrail. We all went running and yelling towards her and the sandrail but the sandrail kept on going. The sandrail has still not been located. This event was so fast and traumatic no one can say exactly what the rail looked like or the exact flag! We do know it was a blue and white sandrail had a spoiler with a black flag w red writing. This is all we could put together as a description. There was also a passenger in the rail. Please if you have any leads please contact the sheriffs station or BLM rangers. We don't even know if the driver knows that they ran over a little girl or if it was a true hit and run. Stay safe and hope we can get some answers and/or justice and some peace. Thanks!

  7. Just in time to get the heck out. You can't even see across camp. There are 20-30 mph winds blowing dust everywhere. On a good note, the road is in excellent shape.

  8. We had a great Halloween out there this year! The dunes were tore up but we ran them hard anyways. I was impressed with how many people were out there and especially at comp hill Saturday night. Wow! It was like the old days except this year we had the Star Wars crew, dancing dinosaurs, drones flying everywhere, and lights galore! It was so much fun. @b370 and crew did an outstanding job on the Star Wars Landspeeder. It was so cool to see everyone's reactions and really nice to see their appreciation for it. We got a good amount of trick or treaters in our camp. Lots of great costumes on the little ones. The weather was crazy. It was good for the most part except during the day it got really warm when the clouds weren't blocking the sun out. I think I saw 93 degrees on the truck readout Saturday afternoon. Here are some of my pics. Such a great weekend! Arriving Thursday night Friday morning I headed up to visit @sanddunesaddict's memorial and check out the crowd. Fri morning dune run to the North Pole Anna & Carrie Cruising through the Superbowl @Randog oops! @painterjoe We got a puker! lol @Sand_YFZ Quick stop after a dune run. @vegas style Fri night sunset Time for some Dumont night life. @702LTR450 stopped by to hang for a bit. 12. There's a nice cool breeze this morning. It's shaping up to be a great day. The dunes are pretty tore up as expected, but we've still managed to get some decent duning in. No other major accidents to report other than the helicopter the other day and there was a Jeep that rolled a couple times on a finger dune near comp. Comp was hopping pretty good last night but everyone seemed to bail around 10/10:30.

  13. Comp Hill action varies throughout the weekend. You can always count on a crowd on Friday night and Saturday night shortly after dinnertime and usually goes until midnight or later. You don't want to miss @b370's RZR creation this year Saturday night. Him and his crew are the ones who did the Flintstones car last year and the Kia hamster car commercial the year before. I'm not giving away what they did this year, but trust me...when you see it, you'll know it's him and his crew at it again. It's gonna be awesome! Trick or Treating will be Saturday night. Expect to see trick or treaters going camp to camp usually as soon as it gets dark. Vendor row is always there. I've noticed it's busiest around lunch time and just before the sun goes down. @sand chick & @Mike @ GTP OFF ROAD could probably give you a little better idea though since they are vendors.
