  1. Too early to start talking about Halloween weekend? Heck no. I'm really itching to get back out to Dumont this season. I've been hearing ridiculous rumors lately about Dumont being closed for Halloween and just felt like that needed to be cleared up. Dumont is not going to close. The trunk or treat is still even scheduled for Halloween night. 🎃 Dates for Halloween weekend are Friday Oct 30 - Sunday, Nov 1. Halloween actually falls on Saturday night this year. 🤙🏻 So who's gonna be there?

  2. I just wanted to post an update since I have not listed the cleanup date yet on our events page or calendar. I got with Jason from Friends of Dumont Dunes and he still needs to talk with BLM as far as if, how, and when cleanup will happen this year. It will probably still come together sometime in the middle of March, but that is all I have right now. I will definitely post an update and date as soon as it all gets decided on. I know some people have been asking so I wanted to post what I knew so far.

  3. He’s part of our group. He’s actually at Dumont now, with us. Very lucky to have a bad gash on his head, 9 staples, and some nasty bruises. Very lucky, but he’s going to be just fine.

  4. Where to start.... What a great trip once again. This weekend never disappoints! Got in Thursday noon and unloaded and just hung out at camp. Thursday night was Tri-tip at Dan and Amanda's trailer, effen great food! Thanks you two for putting this together. Friday got up and saw more people had arrived overnight and it was shaping up to be a big circle (if you can call it that). Did some riding, trying to take it easy before the round up on Saturday. Friday night shenanigan's at the fire and off to bed. Saturday was the day! Over 50 cars in the camp all lined up, even went out of camp so a few cars made a second line. After cars and coffee was the big ride. Myself and Neil headed out to get a good location for photos as the caravan went by. It was so cool watching you all strung out across many dunes at the same time. I tried my best to get you all but I know I did miss 1 or 2 of you as my camera had other ideas! Then photos at the drags as the big boys were showing off. The raffle was amazing once again! Everyone's donations made this event a great success. I managed to snag me a fuel jug! The bidding for the tow hitch cover, you had to be there to see how nuts it was, the money was going to the website so the bidding got way out of hand which was a good thing. The rest of the time was spent just goofing off and getting in a ride or 2. Sunday the weather couldn't have been better. Pete, Anna, Josh and myself had one last ride and Pete had is drone overhead. Not a super fast ride which was good as I wanted to load my car up under it's own power and head home soon. Thanks to Pete and Anna for once again allowing me to crash in their trailer. And to all my friends that I only see there, it was good seeing you and I am looking forward to Round-up 10! I will load up a few favorites here but the big photodump is on my website- https://www.619actionphoto.com/Desert/Dumont-Dunes-Dune-Buggy-Round-Up-9/i-gnthh4s Feel free to look for your favorites and download them for free. Until next time. Tim

  5. We rolled in Thursday night. The weather was breezy at times, but it was really nice. So nice we hung out around the fire until 2AM. I was excited to get my car back out after some recent suspension and tire upgrades. Plus I acquired another new toy...a couch! Polaris Sportsman 700. I took the couch, also referred to now as Pedro, out for a morning cruise to see how it did and check out what mother nature had groomed. Then we headed out for our first buggy run and Josh's spindle decided to break in half. We pulled it off and took it back to camp to get welded up in order to get the car back. Theron and I stayed and played security guard with the help of some cold beers in the cooler. We got it all back together and we headed back. Josh was convinced the spindle wasn't strong enough to drive on anymore, but Theron made sure to give him that push to weld it up on the inside as well so he could dune the rest of the weekend. Everyone came together to help out. On the way back to camp from the spindle incident, we made a few rips up comp hill. I noticed my car was falling on its face over 4000 rpm. I've been dealing with an issue all season and I was getting pissed off I haven't figured it out yet. So long story short I took it out to test a few things and I blew up my motor. 😥 I had excessive blow-by coming out of my breather and one or two cylinders were not hitting anymore. I kinda felt like this was going to happen, but not on day 1 of this weekend. I was really bummed. Luckily I had friends to cheer me up. I hopped in Theron's car and Anna rode in Dan's so we could all go up to Sunset Hill. Saturday morning it was really gusty at times, but the W finally calmed down. I took the couch quad out again and ended up all the way across HWY 127 exploring some ohv trails in Anvil Canyon. Along the way I spotted an old memorial up on a hill between Little D and Big D. The message in the concrete read LOVED THE DESERT. Quickly realizing I didn't bring any water or supplies, I decided to head back. I was pretty far out there. You can barely see little Dumont in the distance in this pic. I got back to camp and found out the guys still hadn't returned from their buggy run. Gary and Josh came back but it was to get a pully for Gary's car. On the run, it fell off. Ben stopped to get it as it was rolling down a hill, then got stuck! Then Theron hooked up to him and got stuck and then one more buggy got stuck. They had 3 buggies tied together with tow straps so tight they had to cut one off. LOL It's this was our first dune trip of something. After fixing Gary's car and then bringing out a floor jack, everyone finally got Theron's car extracted from the earth. LOL VID_20210306_135334615.mp4 Later that day everyone else went out while I cruised around taking dune pics and managed to snap some of the crew. Looks like Greg's car is Pacman and eating the buggy in the distance. haha Josh and Greg had a little more fun for the camera. Sunday we all packed it up and headed home. I have a ton of stuff to fix. First a buggy motor swap, then some more upgrades to switch over to 5 lug front wheels from spindle mount wheels, then fix my water heater and furnace which BOTH decided to take a crap in the same weekend. It's always something! Duning is constant work but so worth it when everything is clicking and working right. I was really bummed I couldn't take full advantage of those amazing dunes this weekend. They were so epic while my car lasted. Just not the same on an old man quad. haha Big thanks to all my friends that made a sh*tty weekend still a super fun one. Saturday night we had ATC races, giant human ball fights, guess that crappy 80's song, and lots of fun around the fire. Time to get to work and get back out before summer hits. I'm not done yet!

  7. Around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, a 3 year old little girl was hit by a buggy near one of the finger dunes in the camp area. It was a hit and run. Life flight was called out and she was transported. Update 10/30/2016: Little Regan is recovering. Posted via her father on our Facebook page, "My daughter is doing well. She suffered a 5 inch laceration from the bridge of her nose up to the top of her forehead just below her hair line, A small gash to the right side of her head, some minor cuts to her right arm and possibly going to have some bruising. Thank god she did not have any internal injuries or anything life threatening. This could have been so much worse." 9. So here is another video. I know we have been putting videos out every other day I feel like. Little back story is I start this video over a year ago to do a 2015-16 season video and just became far to busy to complete it and forgot all about it. Then Jason stumbled upon it and with a lil motivation we got this one done. So I hope you enjoy it as much as I had finishing it. It was a great season but a little tormenting as we were buggy-less due to building the new car. Definitely looking forward to completing the next season video.

  10. Over MLK Weekend, little Keven was spooked by fireworks and ended up running off and getting lost. Her owners looked all over for her with no luck. Word quickly spread on social media and the forums, but she was still nowhere to be found. The following weekend, DDR members who were headed out kept an eye out for her hoping she would show up. There was no sign of her though. Two weeks later, a couple duners were pulling into Dumont and spotted a little white dog on the side of the road. It was her! She was frightened and wouldn't even come towards them when they tossed treats to her. She began running towards the highway but they managed to steer her towards the camps. She ran up to one of the first camps at the top of the hill and hid under their trailer. When everyone found out it was the little white Poodle/ Maltese mix dog that went missing two weeks earlier, they were all shocked. She was skin and bones and had to be starving. It's a miracle she was able to endure the freezing temperatures and predatory coyotes. They called the owner and took good care of little Keven until she was able to drive out and pick her up. It's always good to hear outcomes like this. It's proof you should never give up! Congrats to Yessica on finding her little fur baby.

  12. Great thread Pete! One thing that was said to me years ago was actually about power tools, but I apply it anywhere that I am doing anything where I can get hurt. "The minute you get comfortable with a tool, put it down and walk away! You have now entered the area of making a mistake that can and almost certainly will hurt you!" I feel the same goes for the dunes, and many other things for that matter. Once you become comfortable with danger, you start letting certain things slide and not paying full attention, that's when accidents happen.

  13. It was an amazing turnout last night in honor of Bert. Thank you all for coming out, sharing some old stories, and doing milk shots. That was classic! I'm pretty sure Bert heard us loud and clear when we all yelled BERRRRRRRRRRT one last time. There was ton of love in that place last night and it reminded me how much we all need to get together on a regular basis like the old days. There was a handful of friends who, unfortunately, could not make it but like Bert, were there in spirit. I was really happy to see that Ashley was able to make an appearance. The look on her face brought tears to my eyes. Bert loved his friends and family and I could just picture that big ole smile on his face had he walked through that door to see us there for him. Cheers buddy. It's not going to be the same without you, but we'll sure as heck keep your traditions and spirit alive.

  15. Like every holiday weekend, there's good points and bad. I had a blast, but the every holiday weekend I go, the more I enjoy the off weekends. I didn't appreciate the insanely loud mariachi band music at all times of the day from every direction. The people who blasted that music that loud were really inconsiderate. I wish they'd be a little more respectful of others, especially crazy late at night and at 8AM!

  17. Well came home last night and to my surprise Jess had knocked out a President's Day video already!! I think it came out great but I'm bias. We had a great weekend and for the most part our group showed up in force despite the weather reports. I feel the weather was not nearly as bad as everyone predicted. Some of our group arrived the Sunday before and did nothing but brag about the good dunes and weather they had so we were determined to make it a great trip. We pulled in Thursday around 1030 and the road sucked!!!! But we got situated and went on our first run. I put stiffer springs on front of the car and my god what a difference, it just eats everything up. This was our first long weekend out with it and the nastier the dunes the car didn't care and made it through the weekend without incident. During the course of our first ride one of my buddies had an incident in his car causing him to roll. Luckily he is the smart one and wears a helmet. His car, while looked bad held up great and should be back up and going soon. Then the rain came and I got bored staring at each other so I rounded some peeps up and we duned lightly in our trucks and had a great time. The Utah portion of our group had planned a year ago it was time to erect a new South Pole and it came out awesome!!! Lots of cool trinkets on it thanks to broken buggies lol. Overall great weekend and looking forward to the cleanup and sub group meeting their holding out there.

  18. We had a great Halloween out there this year! The dunes were tore up but we ran them hard anyways. I was impressed with how many people were out there and especially at comp hill Saturday night. Wow! It was like the old days except this year we had the Star Wars crew, dancing dinosaurs, drones flying everywhere, and lights galore! It was so much fun. @b370 and crew did an outstanding job on the Star Wars Landspeeder. It was so cool to see everyone's reactions and really nice to see their appreciation for it. We got a good amount of trick or treaters in our camp. Lots of great costumes on the little ones. The weather was crazy. It was good for the most part except during the day it got really warm when the clouds weren't blocking the sun out. I think I saw 93 degrees on the truck readout Saturday afternoon. Here are some of my pics. Such a great weekend! Arriving Thursday night Friday morning I headed up to visit @sanddunesaddict's memorial and check out the crowd. Fri morning dune run to the North Pole Anna & Carrie Cruising through the Superbowl @Randog oops! @painterjoe We got a puker! lol @Sand_YFZ Quick stop after a dune run. @vegas style Fri night sunset Time for some Dumont night life. @702LTR450 stopped by to hang for a bit. Fri night at Comp Late night carne & pollo! mmmm Sat morning run Ben's car was looking good! Camp area Saturday afternoon. Nice air! Quick stop over at Walter's to see the Landspeeder in person. Wow! Putting up decorations Saturday afternoon Sat sunset ride @b370 (Chewbaca) helping out @FE135 with lighting for the Landspeeder photo shoot. haha Sat night sunset from camp Trick or Treat time! My costume. I was an Abu Dhabi duner! Then on to Comp! It was lit! me and @duniemonkie @FE135 grabbed a great shot of Anna in her crazy witch costume @vegas style The Star Wars crew! I had to get a pic with this d*ck

  19. Damn son, unwind a little bit, take a deep breath, start back at the top and READ what was posted. No rumors, just what was passed on by another friend of the victims. How about instead of jumping into full jackasselope mode on your very first post on a forum you just offer your take on what happened with the accident? You know, maybe help others in the future not make the same mistake/mistakes that were made? And shed some light on the entire situation since you were a passenger in said RZR. I've been to Dumont dozens of times over the years but will be making my first trip in a RZR this weekend. The info you could have provided might have been useful to may others as the SXS market is growing by the day. And your buddy WickedYJ there may want to take the same advice. DDR is one of the tightest knit communities on the web and we will go way above and beyond to help and protect one another. Definitely wouldn't intentionaly be passing bum scoop on a fellow duners demise. So what really happened so that others may be informed? In your calmest and kindest tone please. RIP fellow duner, and prayers to the family and friends.

  20. Man, it's been a rough day. Just one of many to come too. Things are not going to be the same without Bert around. He is pretty much the reason I got addicted to duning. I feel like it's the end of an era.

  21. The 20/21 dune season has finally come to a close. It was an interesting season for sure with the COVID and all. More so this season than ever were the dunes the perfect escape to normal for many people. It was one of the only outlets for recreation or getting out of the house and not feeling the pressures from the pandemic. No matter what is going on in the world, pandemic or not, Dumont always offers solitude and the perfect setting to turn your brain off. If that's not what your after, it's also the perfect place to party and go nuts with limited impact on others. Regardless of the type of dune trip you are after, I think we can all admit Dumont is great "reset" that all of our brains need from time to time. I hope everyone found that reset on every trip you managed to squeeze in this season. Although the season is over, we all still manage to get out and enjoy some part of the outdoors. So don't be a stranger. Pop in on the forum and let us know what you are up to. We don't shut the site down during the off-season, so please utilize it to keep it alive and fresh. Many people have turned to social media these days and we get it. It's easy and convenient, but please keep in mind we do this for the community and love you guys. Show us some support and we'll see you in the sand in October!

  22. With summer here and nobody going out to Dumont much, let's keep this place alive! Share a little from your most recent trip, project, sand toy maintenance, or whatever it is you have been up to as of last weekend. Post as little or much as you'd like. Didn't do anything and laid on the couch all weekend? Post that! 😆 The whole point is to stay in touch as a community. The more we do that, the longer this site will stay up and online. 🤔 Last weekend some friends, including @bp-guy and I went kayaking, exploring and hiking in Black Canyon. The first four miles were epic. Then after lunch we had to paddle for 5 hours to get to Willow Beach where we were getting picked up! LOL That part sucked. haha

  24. I heard from a guy who heard from a guy that another guy put something together out at Dumont. “Veterans hill”. For those curious. There is a new destination at Dumont dunes dedicated to the men and women who selflessly served our country and those who never made it home. Nobody really knows who’s responsible but rumor is they are part of our great nations warriors as well as big influences in the community both on and off road , they have promised to make veterans hill a worthwhile travel destination within the dunes. The location is undisclosed but it’s said that “you’ll know it when you see it”. Have also been told there’s a fantastic large dune with many small dunes surrounding the area making for a great spot to have fun.

  25. UPDATE: Good news and bad. Construction has begun, but the tower will not be functioning until April/ March 2019. 😣 A gate was installed at the south end, up in the hills along the fence line just west of the Memorial Hill. A dozer was also delivered and an access road was made to where the tower will be built. These photos are from the project manager. He apparently likes selfies.

  26. Although the dunes were damp from the recent rain, I was loving every minute of duning this weekend. The sand had some good traction, but had just enough slide factor and was even dry and fluffy in some areas. Our dune runs were fast! Leading was much easier this weekend with all those distinguished lines. We had a nice sized camp of 8 rigs or so. The weather was awesome! I didn't take as many good pics as usual, but grabbed a handful of quick pix with my phone and point & shoot camera. Banshee Wars/ 4 Stroke Wars drew quite a crowd. The wet sand allowed them to park a bunch of RVs over at Banshee Hill. MMM, fancy cheese! Thanks Rod! (@Mustache Motorsports) We set up our roof tent to show everyone how it worked. Since it was up, Anna and I relaxed in it for a bit. It's like our own hammock in the sky. @RUn2it & @FE135 talked about the good ole days after Lee busted out some cool old photos from the hill climbs in the 70's. It's funny how many of the dunes are still the exact same shape. Rod & Blake put on nice G52 Funco show! Neal didn't miss a beat and grabbed his camera for some shots. I only managed to snap a couple. After our dune run on Saturday, we stopped on the sunset hill. Those Banshees went at it until the sun went down. Neal duned his FJ up the hill. He got pretty close to us after a couple attempts. The sunset didn't disappoint as usual. After the sun went down, Supercross went up! Thanks for setting it all up Chad (@Dent boy) @JVZ still had a Christmas tree to burn. I love watching those go up! Race gas in the sand. "Doc" tweekin on something. I snuck a pic in. Sunday morning we had perfect weather again. It was a very chill day. A small group of us went on a nice, slow "champagne cruise" from the south end to the north pole. I brought out stuff for breakfast mimosas at the north pole. Between the 6 of us, we all had a nice little toast to the great weekend. We hung out and enjoyed the nice weather for a while out there. We were in no rush to head back. This has become a new tradition on dune runs over the last year. I was surprised how many people were out there on a Sunday. Most people seemed to have Monday off. That's probably why. Anna relaxed in her "don't bother me chill zone" We stayed until the sun went down. Jason (@JeepingJay36) fired up his smoker and made everyone some bomb ass BBQ burgers! A couple last photos before heading out. Great weekend!

  29. Another great weekend. Plenty of new people to meet and a lot of familiar faces too. Thanks to Pete and Anna for doing what it takes to keep DDR up and running allowing us all to get together for trips like this. I am sure its not said enough but we all appreciate it. Had a blast running around with all the buggies/bikes/can-ams and everything else that joined in. I stayed to the rear just to enjoy the view of all the cars in a LONG-ASS line. It was cool to see us stretch out 4 to 5 bowls as we weaved around Dumont. I have some great videos from my drone, Pete has them and I am sure he will make a sweet video of it all pretty soon. Sandy was pretty relaxed this weekend but she still got around and managed to make it home. Well, after Pete hauled butt in his rail to find me while I was leaving to get her back to me. The Carne/Chicken meal was the highlight topped off with some great fights. Carrie and myself kept on cooking till it was all gone and manage to stuff our faces while doing it. I didn't take many pictures as we duned, but here is what I got around camp and the final sunset of the trip. The circles are steel wool in a wisk and spun around while taking a long exposure picture. Me,Pete,Anna and Steve were laughing our butts off while taking these.

  30. We all know that bad service spreads like wildfire, but it seems like great service is a lot like an STD, when get it you tend not to tell many people. So let me say that the service from the guys a GTP are absolutely outstanding. Mike and Adam have provided me with awesome deals on parts and accessories for my side by side. They have also gone above and beyond and diagnosed a front end problem on my machine at the dunes while he was vending. With my parts on back order Mike loaned me some parts just to keep me going so the machine wasn't down in the middle of dune season. These guys really put your best interest in mind and not what is best for them.

  31. Promised my daughter I'd take her out as she is a freshman in college and hasn't had a chance to get to the desert this year. My brother asked to use our backyard to get married Friday so we adjusted it to a day trip. So friday afternoon I go to the local motorcycle shop to get a batt for a friend who is already at D, get race gas and pick up XP and Buggy, both batts dead, smart chargers won't work on them so went and bought two new chargers. rolled Xp into driveway and installed power steering in it. Left Xp and rail charging in driveway overnight and started loading at 5am. loaded rail into trailer and backed it up a bit and brand new shifter was stuck in reverse… rolled it back into driveway and headed to my shop to grab another XP. Xp #2 had 2 flats and a dead batt so pulled on out of another one belonging to a friend and hit the road. First dune run 10 min in a rider on a two wheeler in our group seized his bike so we tied the front into the xp and I towed him in. Went on a second ride and and caught the sunset, way stressful / expensive day for 2 dune runs but as we hit the asphalt on the way to Baker my daughter grabbed my hand and dozed off like she did as a little girl and made every second worthwhile

  33. Here's the thing, It's completely understandable for you to be upset, I'm sure that was a very traumatic accident and I'm very sorry for your loss. But, what gets posted online about the accident should be the last thing for you to get pissed off about. You clearly don't know Pete (Dunefreak), he would never start or try to spread rumors, especially about the death of anyone. So don't get your panties all in a bunch because of some mis-information. What you can do instead of bitching and complaining, is set the record straight, or at least just say: "I was there, that's not what happened.", and leave it at that. I do have a serious question, and I do not mean for this question to be controversial or disrespectful in any way, and do not feel inclined to answer, but I ask: If this was in a SxS, were helmet's being worn?

  34. When I joined this site and met Bert at Dumont the first time and found out his real name I told him I knew his father (who also was taken to soon). Bert and I had lot's of conversations about the time he and his dad spent at the dunes. He always said his dad was taken to soon and worried about it himself. Unfortunately he was right. Bert was a kind gentle soul and a friend to anyone and I for one am truly sorry that such a great person has left us. I keep Ashley and the kids in my thoughts and hope and know that his large extended family will be there to help. I am truly at a loss. Terry

  36. First off i would like send my prayers to all the victims in this accident it was a terrible crash. It all happened around 1115 Thursday night. Me and my family were sleeping in our toy hauler when we heard a small rail come into our camp and start yelling for help that there was a crash in the dunes and that he couldn't find the blm station. So i got in our rzr and led the guy over to the blm station to find that there wasn't one person working that night but they were collecting money that day for passes. I knocked and went inside every trailer at the blm camp to find no one. So i got on my phone and called 911 and told them what the guy saw and that we needed immediate help. About 40 minutes went buy and the paramedics and fire department showed up. I knew that they werent going to be able to get back to the crash since the blm didn't have people working to operate the sand rail So i ran back to camp and jumped in our rail and went and got 2 paramedics and all there gear and took them to the crash site. Right away they attended both hurt victims. The one lady that got ejected was not ran over by another rail, but was severely injured. We helped the paramedics load her on the back board and then across the back seat of our rail. I then took the two paramedics and lady in my rail back to the station. She was airlifted out at about 1. I then took the fire fighters, and two officers back to the site to grab the other girl that was hurt. We loaded her up on the back board and then into the rail again. Then took her back to the station where the ambulance was. She only had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. After they took off with the other lady, i transported the fire fighters back to the site to help. The other victim was pronounced dead. I feel bad for the family and hope they recover from there loss. It was a bad way to start the trip but after seeing this accident i hope that everyone on here makes sure that every person riding in your rail wears a seat belt. Whether it is a quick putt to vendor row or to comp. Seat belts in this crash would have saved every life. It was a horrible thing to see but glad i was there to help because i don't know how the paramedics would have gotten everyone out of there. And once again my thoughts and prayers go out to the family's involved in this.

  39. What is it about this place that always has us coming back? As a younger kid we would start our trips Wednesday night and have the entire place to ourselves until Thursday evening or even Friday morning. I still love the fact that on an off weekend we can go out and only have about 5-6 camps sharing the entire place. The terrain variance from almost flat desert to huge sand faces is memorizing! I love the way the wind has built the transitions to be so smooth from turn to turn, it is something that I have not been able to duplicate anywhere else. The amazing freedom you feel when you go out on that early morning ride on a motorcycle, being able to turn where you want, and go any direction with no trail holding you back. There is something about this place that is always different but always the same.

  41. Sunday the carnage continued when Rod's daughter found a nice place to park. oops! We all got together and managed to get it out of there and safely back to camp. Glad nobody was hurt! Then we headed up to @sanddunesaddict's memorial and had a mimosa toast to him.

  43. Hello everyone. First off I want to send out a THANK YOU to everyone that attended to this accident. This is Jeff. I was in the other Rzr messing around a little on that jump before the crash. I am so impressed and can't show my appreciation enough to everyone and how quickly you all helped me and my friends. It really goes to show you kind and caring people are. It was a horrible accident and something that can be avoided. Here is the updates to my friends. The driver is back home resting with a broken collar bone and banged up leg and cuts and bruises here and there on him. His 10 year old son Logan has been in ICU until early this afternoon where he was taken to a regular room for further obersavations. He had some bleeding in his lower abdomen that they have been keeping a close eye on. He should be released in a few days. The rear passenger Jon Murphy is doing well. The surgury was successful and he is showing good Positive steps. He is able to slowly move his arms but still has no movement in his hand, feet, and legs. However he can feel the doctors touching him so that is a positive sign. He suffered a big gash to his head between his eyes and also a big gash to back of his head where he got staples. I'm not sure if we even knew the back of his head was cut until he got to ER. . They removed the breathing tube today so he is able to talk. He told his wife he remembers the crash up until the first impact. He said to her today he died. The 10-15 minutes of me and whomever helped pull him out of car (thank you) that he was unresponsive was pitch black. He said first thing he remembers is the brunette nurse helping him in the sand. So to this nurse and I sorry I don't remember names. Thank you thank you thank you. Right now he looks good and time will tell what's going to be. Jonny is a fighter and he is a strong dude so we are all staying positive. Please to all that hear of this accident. Be careful. Know your limits. Don't discount inexperience to get a 5 second adrenaline rush. Things can go from bad to worse in blink of an eye. Know your machines and know them well before you start pushing it. Again thank you to everyone that attended to my friends. If it wasn't for all of your immediate attention we may of seen a more tragic outcome. Keep my friends in your thoughts and prayers. All of you that helped, you are truly all hero. Words cannot express our gratitude in what you all did. Ride safe, wear your protective gear and know your machine and know your limit. Much Love

  44. Thank you Sand Chick for your comments. Anger IS a part of the grieving process. I was asking for a little understanding but apparently that’s "barking..." I can't say what happened because I wasn’t there. But, I do have experience with trauma and grief. As a healthcare provider, I see trauma fairly often. As a medic in the Army, I know what it is like to grieve for friends who died in gruesome fashion. I’ve seen some sh*t in my time on this earth. I have been riding for over 20 years and riding at Dumont for 10+ so I know the dangers and the responsibility it takes to ride safely. I’m not some punk kid who is spouting off at the mouth… Justin was part of my camp, a friend and part of my extended family. He made a mistake that cost him his life. So, again, try to have a little understanding with these young men who lost a friend. Telling them 'don’t get angry at a post' or 'stop bitching and complaining and tell us what happened' doesn’t make them want to open up. If anyone wants to take something away from this tragic accident, then wear ALL your safety equipment and slow down. It’s better to get back to camp late than not at all. It could have made a difference for Justin. Thank you everyone for your good wishes and condolences. I know the family appreciates the support.

  45. and to add, let us all know what happened maybe not in detail but issues that came up that possibly can be avoided so that word can get around to help prevent incidents like the one that happened....educate us. losing a friend is hard, I've lost a few myself....but I've put it out there things that happened that could be avoided to help prevent repeat occurrences. no one in this thread came on here and wanted to put out bad information, they were only putting out what was said. every incident that has happened out at Dumont that involved a death has been posted in here to help educate others, the stories are not put on here with any intent other than to help.

  46. Stacey, Family & Friends of Craig, We will never know why this happened at this location or time. Angels are created every day, every minute, and every second. Sometimes they are taken from us by tragic accidents. Pointing blame is not doing anyone justice; leave this to the detectives/police. I was lucky enough to meet Craig a little over a month ago at a house gathering. He accompanied Stacey and we shared many laughs. Craig was very polite, fun, and shared a few laughs with us. I am glad that I took a few moments to ask him how he was doing; we shared stories about riding and our next trip. I don’t recall all the details of our conversation; he definitely loved riding. To be taken from this world by a tragic accident leaves the living heartbroken; but reality is – Craig left this world loving what he enjoyed doing. His last memories are of Mother Nature, friends, and family. In honor of Craig, I think the best thing we all can do is be more cautious. Stacey, It's been hard for me losing my father and a friend (Fellow Duner). Camping brings me a sense of peace; knowing this is something I did with both of them. I know it’s hard for you right now to go to Dumont – But when you are ready; I will be there to take you. We can hop into one of our vehicles and do a day trip. We can sit at comp-hill until you feel a sense of peace or just to cry. I am here for you. Mauh xoxoxoxox

  47. Now, now fellas, simmer down...simmer down. Capt, i guess the secrets out, but I DO get time off every now and again. I take the family to Dumont several times a year. I expect to have a good, safe time. I expect the cop'rs to do their jobs, protect and serve, just as your and my tax dollars are paying them to do. So if Sheriff Hoops or the Chief BLM Ranger didn't check in w/me before they launched some K9 check point, then you're right, I was "in the dark". GOOD!! I want to be in the dark on my VACATION...lol...! The cop'rs were simply being proactive...trying to stop a problem before it starts. I HATE tweeks and thiefs! If they can be stopped at the gate and taken away before they crash into my trailer, kill my family or steal my buggy, I'm all for it. It sucks chaining up your stuff every night (I'm lazy!!). If your stuff got jacked or gets hit in the middle of the night, you would be complaining about the cop'rs NOT doing thier job...Wondering why they weren't parked near your camp just watching over your stuff, keeping the bad guys away. Believe me, a few cites over the weekend is not going to balance the state or county's budget, nor was that the intent of the so called check point. Let me ask you this...Do you wait for you CV's to dry up before you pack'em? Do you wait for you motor oil to turn to tar before you change it? Of course not. You do preventative maintenance to keep your precious buggy going good. If crashes, vehicle thefts, assults and drug sales can be stopped before it happens, (or at least slowed) then why not? And if you think those things don't occur, then I'm not the one who is in the dark. These crime stats just fuel the cause for the groups that want to take our dunes away!! Bob, by all means, I didn't mean to insult you IQ. I'm glad you think you're intelligent. I understand you're frustrated and was just venting. I got stopped on the way in before. I didn't just badge my way out. I let them do their thing, what my tax dollars are paying them to do. I've been jacked with by punk-a$$ cops, given BS cites, etc...I was just giving Terry praise because he made a phone call and attempted to get some facts. You, Bob, are an "OG" on this site, obvioulsy due to your time here and your number of posts. I'm sure ALOT of peeps here look up to you and believe what you're saying is gospel. Soooo, in the nicest way possibe, you really should at least attempt to educate yourself on what you're talking about IF you're going to make assumptions. Were officers REALLY on OT, or was it normal duty or grant funded? What does the CITY of San Bernardino and it's budget problems have to do w/the price of tea in China?....Has NOTHING to do w/Dumont, the Sheriff's Dept or BLM, (or the Sheriff's old a$$ buggy). Ummm...dogs can smell pretty darn good...sooo good, that there is case law about it and a dog's "hit" holds up in court. But you're right about a couple things. Dogs CAN NOT read VINs. It takes 25 deputies and 50 rangers per VIN to do that!!! Also, the dog is a very limited resourse. With that said, we (as duners) were very fortunate to get the dog for the weekend. The dog is a very useful tool in stopping drugs from coming into Dumont. Drugs are the root of alot of crimes....dui's, thefts, assaults....Now, Bob, pull up a chair cuz it's time for your first lesson in Federal Land and jurisdictional issues you can't seem to grasp. Ever since Sheriff Penrod took and left office several years ago, BLM has no authority to enforce state penal codes. YES, Dumont is on Federal land, however, it is still located with in San Bernardino County and falls under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff. It is the Sheriff's responsibility AND obligation to provide law enforcement services. BLM's primary goal/mission is land management, hence the name. That's why they HATE nails, fireworks, glass bottles, etc.....with me so far?? BLM can go to town on someone with their Federal citations, but when it comes to crimes such as vehicle thefts, felons w/guns, assaults, domestics, death investigations, the fake $$ floating around on Vendor's row a couple years ago, they (BLM) look to the Sheriff's Dept to handle the investigation. By the way, the county doesn't have "county laws". That would be considered a county ordinance, but we'll save that for your next lesson since it doesn't have much to do with Dumont. Now, for the rest of you that feel like your right were "violated"....Do some research on your 4th Amendment search and seisure rights. If some jack off, badge heavy cop is going through your castle (trailer, motorhome, etc) without probable cause (lawful reason) or YOUR consent, then contact a cop hater attorney and sue the hell out of the agency. You'll get a new house, brand new motorhome and a twin turbo Tatum out of it!! We all DO NOT need those type of cop'rs out there. PS...BOB, if your IQ is so high, why don't you wear shoes???....Don't get bent, I was just kidding..
