  1. Too damn hot for the past three months to even let dune season enter my mind. I am in the market for a newer hauler so now that the huge ass RV show in Pomona is less than a month away it has started to dawn on me that I haven't touched the RZR since April.

My only definite trip is Veterans Day at Glamis. Would like to get out quite a few more times this season and start getting Dumont back on the agenda. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  2. 116* here in 29 Palms yesterday. Nothing out of the ordinary, just doing Marine Corps things and getting them ready to head out to the field to train. Should have them nice and prepared for Afghanistan!

To stay cool I'm going to sit out in the sun all day Saturday for Tool, Primus, Clutch, and the Melvins. Then the following Saturday back out in the sun all day for Iron Maiden and Ghost. Then Monday the 3rd for Ted Nugent. Gotta get hydrated and stay that way, gettin' old you know.

And Pete, no "Ass Rock" comments!LOL

  3. Just a quick question, since moving to California some 24 years ago I have noticed that a lot of folks out this way use the term BBQ in reference to grilling hamburgers and hot dogs. BBQ is a process involving smoke, various rubs, and in some parts sauces also, normally applied to brisket, tri tip, ribs, chickens, and other various slabs of meat. So just to clarify, is there a BBQ lunch or grilled dogs and burgers?

I will be there even if I am subsisting on MREs and bottled water. Just don't want my hopes and dreams crushed! See y'all there.

  4. Maybe, but being in the quad crowd back then it just seemed there were many more bikes and quads with some VW rails and, to me anyway, seemed like less of the high power stuff than there is now. I think that's when the high HP crowd really started to explode with all of the second and third mortgages and what not. Now it's high HP rails, a gazillion SXS's, and a smattering of bikes and quads. Hard to believe them when the say the economy is bad!

Anyways, it was good times with good peeps regardless. Due to medical reasons I am now piloting one of those "sand jet skis" but I still get out and try to have the best time that I can.

So back to the original question, where's Metal Alien, Annihilator, Richard Cheese, Big Mike, etc...

  5. While I do miss some of the fine people from back then I do not miss those size crowds anymore. Was good times for sure but more mayhem also. And a lot less high HP machines to tear up the dunes so fast on holiday weekends back then.

Where the hell is Jason, aka RichardCheese!?!

  6. Been to Glamis a handful of times, hit up Superstition Mountain, Ocotillo Wells, and most recently this past weekend we launched from over at Bessimer Mine in Johnson Valley and rode up Rattlesnake Canyon to the Old Rose Mine up in the San Bernardino National Forest. We were supposed to go to Tip Top Mountain for lunch but at the mine the snow was already a foot plus deep and some of the RZRs were getting high centered  so with another 1100ft or so of elevation to the top we decided it was better to eat in place then turn around and play in the shallower snow. First time I had the RZR in snow and I must say it won't be the last. Good times for sure.

Chomping at the bit for the clean-up weekend to get here so I can come do some shredding up at Dumont. See y'alll there!

  7. Hopefully the young Ranger was taking pointers on how to have a positive experience with dumbasses and make it a learning experience for all involved.

Now cite his ass for no flag, and no lights on in the dark. Both requirements in the dunes I do believe.

  8. Highs, lows, ebbs. flows, just like most years I suppose. Still have the partial paralysis on the right side along with nerves and feelings being all jackaloped up where hot feels cold and cold feels hot, and no feeling in my fingers but I still get out on occasion to sling the RZR around. Sure do miss being able to do the same on the old DS650's but hey, desert and sand is still desert and sand.

Have met a grip of new folks over the past couple of years since I've had to switch vehicles so that's been a plus. Finally got to get back out to D earlier this year and am hitting it back up sometime in the Spring.

Look forward to seeing some of you fine folks again. Stay safe and have the happiest of new years.

    That should be interesting... :watching:

Yes, they finally come to us at a  very convenient time and I will be very curious as to how few people actually make the effort to attend. The attitude will also be something to keep an eye on.

Hopefully it is well attended and we are well received. Be nice to have a different relationship than what has been in the past.

Time will tell. Fingers are crossed.

  10. You guys should head to Glamis and partake of the 13th Annual Veterans Day ceremony at the flagpole. It's an event like you won't find anywhere else. Bring some tissue, something seems to be in the air down there while this event is taking place. Happens every year on the Saturday of Veterans weekend at 11:11AM.

When that's all said and done and you've had your fill of the dunes for the day round about dusk they hold the Marine Corps Birthday and cake cutting ceremony down at Wash 22.

Both are awesome not to be missed events hosted by duners for duners.

  11. Hit up your blog, awesome pics you got there. The Emery Arch pics and video were outstanding as well. Looks like you've got the "Live Life" thing down to a T.

On a side note, or maybe the main point, I wish all Off-Roaders treaded as lightly as you demonstrated in the video. I they/we did there would be so many more areas open to us. Thanks for being a great ambassador.

  12. Good find Pete. I don't have time here at work but post up some stuff about Crescent Lake China too. Kind of the same deal, the dunes in China may be even larger and more vast.

Would love to experience both though. Nice to dream in between seasons...
