I'd use the "tranny". In trucking, were required to use the motor to slow us down. Those gravel run a way ramps are there for guys who don't :rainbow1: The compression of the motor slows you down, thus saving the life of the brakes, and more importantly, keepin you, your passengers, and everyone else on the road safe. And like it has already been said; with an allison trans, if you have the tow/haul button in, it downshifts on a downhill automatically, after a few seconds on the brakes.

I'm jealous; our shop has a 48" barrel fan. Feels like you're standing in front of a hair dryer :rainbow1:

Gotta love the red...yah, I got red too :rainbow1: Congrats

Nah, I don't want stacks on my pickup...just thinkin out loud. I built a rig with 7" weed burner pipes, so it CAN go elsewhwere, btw. The jakes were a kick in the teeth for other motorists :rainbow1: However, My current rig is running twin 8" straight pipes( no muffler, no restriction, straight up). The exh. temps drop to 300 seconds after lifting from the throtlle. Maybe I'm just comparing apples to oranges...I suppose these pickup motors would respond similialy if I spent some cash on the suggestions you mentioned...Sounds kinda spendy for me right now, though. And I certainly don't need any more power; I was thinking just a few hundred bucks for a 4" pipe from the turbo back, removing the cat, might help evacuate more heat, and hopefully increase my mpg. Mine is an '09, so it's all "corked up", or was. It currently dumps out a turn down behind the cat; no more dpf, no more muffler. And NO, no sawzall's were used in these mods...I've planned on having to reinstall stock exh. for things like smog tests, dealer visits , etc. Thanks for the input. Gonna roll the dice on the warranty issues. It's a chevy , so I've got good odds :assrock:

terribly sorry to hear. Sincere condolences to the family. Were they close friends? It's sad to hear how tragedy strikes a young family; you never know when your, or a loved one's, time is up. We ought to cherish the time we have.

Yah, I had to buy the edge programmer when I found out...that the computer found out... I unbolted the dpf That's good to hear DF, I was always told the turbos would start frying bearings past 1200. That's when I always back out of it. And yah, I never had a guage before when I pulled the boat up to mead; I'm curious what she'll run on the hills. Sounds like it'll be more than I thought was safe.

Congrats! It beats being a state check collector

Sounding like these temps are common on pickups. It baffles me a bit though why they run that hot. One idea I had was rigs run vertical stacks; maybe the heat rising evacuates the heat away from the turbo quicker, than the pickups down and out flow? Thanks for the link, I'll check out some feedback for removing the cat for a free flowing exh. on there. Sorry, if I got a little , just always trying to learn up on the diesel stuff
-
I hear ya, I only run setting 3 on my edge, or else I'll be up in bearing frying territory as well. I was just wondering why it gets so dang hot? My big caterpillars runs 1600+ ft.lbs. full throttle, and sees maybe 900 degrees. I'm thinking the catalytic converter is blocking up some flow

yah. I was getting that alot I finally figured out the drain on the batteries Thanks again for an awesome car; I hope the paint comes out looking at least as good as it did, quality wise!

A wayne's world moment We're Not Worthy! SCHWEET!

Congrats! I really like the look of the pro bro car. It'll be fun putting it together; just take lots of pics. I'm gonna do one of those photo books from shutterfly, for my build up of my old bus. Beofore, during, and after pics. By fall, you're gonna be so anxious for a sand run I'm already jonesing pretty bad for one!

Without any great theme ideas, I wanted something that looks good, but wouldn't hurt my chances of resale, should things get bad enough I'd have to sell. Flames probably aren't for everyone, but I think if they're done right, almost everyone could appreciate them. My painter has 3 cars he's doing now, counting mine. A buddy is getting skulls airbrushed in, and a neighbor nicknamed "peckerwood", is getting that angry woodpecker on his side panels. What's your car gonna get?

Yah ,I know...It was a beautiful paint job. A talented painter did that job for sure! All of the leading edges are sandblasted pretty bad( maybe go pro related) along with the panels all around the rear tires Can't imagine why We are sticking with the blue. My painter wanted to try a Captain America theme, to go with an upcoming movie, but I wasn't diggin that. I saw some ghost flames he did on another project, with a smoke effect on the trailing edge. Looked pretty good. He's talking about respraying the original color, and layering with candy blue for a very subtle look. He a pretty talented air brusher as well.

That's good to hear! Also wondering about exh. mods. I already pulled off the dpf, and watched the mpg jump up some. Is it worth the money to run 4" to the turbo and remove the cat; any fuel mpg being robbed there? I've been pondering that for a while, but can't bring myself to spend the $ for new pipes, on just hopes of a mpg increase. My exh. temps now sit at 6-700 during normal driving, and easily jump up to 11-1200 when a ricer pulls along side of me That seems like exh. restriction. My temps are way higher than my rig running the hills wide open. Any suggestions?

Well... I got the car stripped down. It looks pretty rough without the sheet metal. As long as I had it out of the trailer, I replaced some blown front speakers, and "laced" the seat belts into the new toddler booster seat. I have a few more items, liked a broken negative batt. post(causing a drain), and a split steering boot, that need attention before the season starts up again, but it's hard to get motivated seeing the car like this My painter says about four weeks I can't wait!
-
Right on. I have the '09...An LMM If I remember. It's good so far, not mentioning the fuel economy

After having my rail for 7 or 8 months, I'm finally getting around to repainting it. I know the car has some fans up in here, but I'm getting away from the Bud Light theme. I have a buddy coming over this morning to get a few pics, and then we're are pulling off the panels for him to take to his shop. He's given me a few suggestions, but I'm really undecisive about the new design. I'm aiming for something more nuetral, or non themed. I think the new paint scheme is gonna be... Here are a few parting memories of the sandrail formerly known as the Bud Light Funco I'll post up some pics in a few months of how she turns out. :peeps:

Holy cow, that's a chunk. You mentioned a levevl of difficulty. I'm the wrencher on our fleet, but have never done a set of injectors yet. Are any special tools required for a project like this? Also, would the installation of a better fuel filter help prolong the life of the injectors? I've seen guys with cat 1R-0749 filters installed. Those are a much larger filter, and what our big rigs run; they filter down to 2 microns. Is that any better than stock?
-
What's a ball park figure on the cost of parts vs. the cost to have the dealership do the install? I don't have any issues with mine, but I'm curious what I'll be facing

Nice truck! Having experience with these kind of trucks; the miles are not even a concern. With routine maintenance, you should get 4 times that before an inframe rebuild. Detroit engines are known for some of the best mpg amongst the top 3 manufacturers. Somebody's gonna get a good deal at that price

^^ Maybe even a lazy boy recliner. Then I'd buy one

SWEET, Lexus and Mercedes huh; I'll run out and pick up one of each tonight
