  1. I'll come out and do some spring cleaning.
  2. Looking for ethanol free gas. Would be nice to find fuel without that garbage in it.
  3. Wasn't sure what I should call it. Never heard of the brand. I'm curious how many hours they'll last. It is cheap. If I can find one for that price, I'll pick one up and put some serious hours on it and we'll find out if it's a good value.
  4. I'm now up to 1900 hours on the Yamaha after Presidents day. It draws fuel from an external marine gas tank I got for x-mas. So the generator runs for days without even looking at it. almost 2000 trouble free hours and it still runs like the day I bought it. Cost per hour is cheap considering the amount of hours it runs and it's nice having the peace of mind that it isn't going to shut off because of a poorly engineered part. I can also get parts for it easily if something should eventually fail. I had a knock off generator a few years ago. It acted like vapor lock after a while and I had to mess with it. It cluttered the garage for a while before I tossed it. The Yammi has even powered two RV's when their generator crapped out. It was enough for lights and the furnaces and keeping the batteries topped off. Microwaves and coffee makers as long as we ran them at different times. A/C doesn't matter. Our RV has three so if it's that hot we fire up the Onan. I'd love to know how many hours the off-brand generators will run. If they do well enough, I'm not opposed to saving money.
  5. You know how we always forget something? Sometimes major, sometimes minor. I forgot most of my clothes and had to make do with the same pair of pants. After a couple days people probably thought homeless beggars had finally made it to Dumont! Got in Wed evening. Didn't unload. Woke up in the night to a pretty good rain. Saw three rollovers over the weekend. It seems the wet sand is not forgiving. Slide sideways, roll over. W would stop blowing, we'd go out & build a fire and grab lawn chairs and out of the blue, someone would turn on the W-machine and send us scrambling to put stuff away. Saturday night at comp the turnout was bigger than it should have been with the low overall turnout. Got in some rides in between the frequent blows. Went to the drags and never saw any. We hung out there for an hour or so. "Are there any dinosaurs on your dinosaur tour? Hello?" For grins we went to comp Sunday night. Decent turnout for a Sunday until... Wife said she felt a rain drop. I looked up at the clouds and said "is that all you got" Within one minute it was pouring! WE stood in the rain laughing and I said "Come on, how about some wind!" The sky complied. Now it was raining and windy! We stood in the rain and everyone told me to apologize to the clouds. I held my ground as we got soaked. What did we do? Went on a long, wet, ride. South pole, North pole, ect. We made the best of it and had fun and laughed despite the crap weather. Dumont is what we make of it, regardless of the weather... I'll add some pics from my phone..
  6. Sunday afternoon. More W. Some in our camp packed it in once it started blowing again. Doesn't matter to me especially when duning. Went to the drags but never saw any so we left. I'm
  7. Yeah, probably some stitches. (Just my guess) And shaken up pretty good. Whoever made that car built a very sturdy cage.
  8. I'll Comp hill "mishap Weather good. Sand a little wet under a couple inches of dry.
  9. After a moderate steady rain for a few hours, finally stopped. W still in spurts but starting to mellow out. Sun is peaking out. People are streaming in. No dust!
  10. That pic was north pole looking toward comp. Still better than sitting on the couch at home!
  11. Lots of W. Rained much of the night. 55* Flash flood warning but just drizzle so far.
  12. You guys are right. We went from a Toyhauler to Motorhome. Couldn't hear what the washboarded road was doing to the hauler. The RV, I can. These RV's are stapled, glued and taped together. Doesn't matter how much we paid.
  13. Yeah, I worry about my glued together "OAK" (artificially flavored) particle board cabinets! And our (cheezy) "snap together" plumbing system. When I turn on the shower, I half expect water to start running down the hall. We may have paid big bucks, but in reality they are glued, stapled and taped together! Not to mention helping keep dust out of critical areas like slides, furnace and water heater. I would like as many opinions as I can. I'm not in charge and don't want to go against what people want. Some people don't like change and I can respect that. Lots of people have "seniority" on me! I think it's a possibility. Benefits: Low cost Environmentally friendly, EPA approved Reduces fugitive dust Smooth road reduces wear on emergency equipment No grader and operator or water truck needed on site Much easier on RV's/ tires/ springs This is one company I have worked with... https://envirotechservices.com/dust-control-soil-stabilization/
  14. Does anyone have recommendations on sun glasses? Something that will increase the contrast? The ones I use kinda make things grey and some times of day it's really hard to read the sand.
  15. Sorry, I forgot to include some cost estimates. These prices are one mile long and 24 feet wide. The price of the material is about $1500. It takes about 2500 gallons per mile and it costs around 60 cents per gallon. The hauling fee depends on the distance. A decent grader operator should be able to prepare the surface in 4 hours. A rubber tire roller is needed after the application to compact the prepared surface. Then several hours (depending on temperature) to dry. That's it! No more wash boards and no more dust. It's not that expensive and would GREATLY reduce the wear and tear on your RV.
  16. I have an idea. I'd like opinions please. I've been a road worker for most of my life. Because of that, I'm disgusted by the entrance road nine times out of ten that I drive on it. It seems to me, the entrance fees we pay do not (mostly) go back to Dumont. I can't see bathroom maintenance costing that much. I have a couple ideas on how to improve the entrance road. Paving will cost millions, so that's probably not realistic. Chip sealing is MUCH cheaper than paving and might be an alternative. Even cheaper than that would be lignosulfonates. Lignosulfonates are basically tree sap, a waste product of the paper industry. Can't have tree sap in paper! The lignosulfonates are suspended in a water solution and sprayed directly on a well graded prepared road. The water evaporates and leaves the "tree sap" behind. The sap binds the soil particles together stabilizing them. This mostly eliminates dust and prevents wash boards. The application lasts a few years and can be re-done with a grader using a special blade (button-bits) The re-application a few years down the road uses much less lignosulfonate since the original application mostly still remains. The second application lasts much longer. From my experience, the EPA LOVES this stuff! It's water soluable and non-toxic and almost eliminates fugitive dust from dirt roads. WE might even be able to get a partial grant from the EPA. Being in the industry, I have some connections. I need some fairly accurate measurements for an estimate. Does this appeal to anyone? Do you not like this idea and want the road to remain as-is? I do understand roads act as filters. A poor road filters people out. Comments are welcome.
  17. Our family plus about 7 more families. I noticed some big sand changes on the upper part of comp. A big witches eye is gone, the big flat spot to the right is gone. Of course, the whoops are still there! Also watch out when driving campers/RVs near bathrooms 10 and 6, near the entrance to the comp hill finger. Dozens of campers getting stuck. Air down AHEAD of time, veer 10 yards to the north when the road ends and KEEP UP YOUR MOMENTUM. If you feel you're going to get stuck, stop BEFORE you are sitting on your frame rails. Get help. Happiness is a new set of sand tires. Happy Duning...
  18. That's my outdoor wood stove. Stoke it up and it gets red hot. The stove pipe keeps us from getting smoked out. Way more efficient with wood than an open campfire.
  19. Doesn't bother me either. While growing up, if I wanted privacy on the phone, the cord would stretch to the bathroom. I imagine some of the Dumont crowd goes through phone withdrawal
  20. Didn't look like any recent work had been done. Sand was starting to drift onto the road and the dozer looked like it had been sitting a while. I didn't see power poles run. I imagine the tower will need power, right? I'm no expert but I doubt the tower will be ready this dune season. My guess is there is a waiting list for tower construction.
  21. Road is cut in. Not sure if the road is finished. No cell tower yet.
