  1. We are going out Friday morning unless I hear from a good source of it actually being closed down.

  3. Why and how would it be closed? Dumont is already understaffed and supposedly under-funded. Who is going to be there to stop you from going in? It's an off-weekend anyways. Nobody would regularly be manning the entrance regardless. Go ride the dunes and don't worry about it!

  4. Closed or not, i'm going, and it will be like the Vetrans. http://www.stripes.com/news/wwii-veterans-storm-dc-memorial-closed-by-government-shutdown-1.244447 They can pay them for fences that are never there and pay for officers to keep people out, but not let people roam around freely like when its open? Screw them, I'm going riding.

  6. Well if this does last until Halloween and I think it might. How can they stop 20-30,000 people and are they really going to cite them all??

  7. I am told by Cynthia Barrionton @ 202 208-6913 that the BLM has decided Dumont is closed because they (THE BLM) cannot protect the area or users. This is the biggest bunch of horseshit I have ever heard of. My suggestion would be to fire up the house of representatives and your Senators to get their heads out of their a$$es and get it fixed now. But as of right now best info available is that you could get cited for going to Dumont although Glamis seems to be open working on that answer now. Terry

  8. I got this quote from a VERY involved individual in the OHV legal community. I would expect that the BLM has posted signs and will cite you however no one knows until someone drives out and see's. I am waiting for a return call from the BLM in Washington DC to get a direct answer. I will post more when I receive it.

  9. Dumont is a designated OHV area so the shutdown will have no impact. You may see an LEO but at best it will be a slight chance. Even so I would want to make sure your passes and stickers are in order. I have a meeting (I think) on the 8th if they get this mess fixed and hopefully we can find out what the future holds.

  11. All the information I could find, seems pretty vague on what impact the government shut down will actually have on Dumont. Dumont is not a National Park, so as far as I can tell, there will just be no BLM officers, no BLM services, the bathrooms locked and maybe some signs posted saying closed. I can't find any information on if there will be fines if you are caught on "closed" lands, however, with no services who is going to catch you? But then further down it says they will be on duty. And yes of course the BLM sites are down, making it even more difficult to find any information. Its not like they are going to run out there an put up a fence and a gate across the road and lock it up, that would require BLM employees to work and funding they apparently don't have. http://www.doi.gov/shutdown/fy2014/upload/BLM-Contingency-Plan.pdf
