  1. ooops.. should have started a trip report thread... thread jacked!
  2. Yes those dunes were wet and Friday it sprinkled on us when we got there. The road is a full on F washboard and huge pot holes. So rough it broke the exhaust on the genny. The dunes were pretty tracked out and rutted... ok enough of the complaints.. on to the good sh!t.. Woke up Saturday to some beautiful partly cloudy skies. Spent almost the entire day out in the sand, jumping, wheelies, and general tearing up the sand. Found a nice spot to get some mini wheelies out of the Ace and a good jump spot for me to test the jump waters with the Ace... nothing of course like Mike and Adam's flight patterns.. When we came in for a lunch break, we were treated to a couple fighter jets skimming by us and then dropping down into the gully. On Sunday they buzzed us on the finger dune... love seeing them.. Chilling at the fire on Saturday night, finishing off round and round food, when an RV pulls up, looking for BR#3.. turns out to be the Dumont Dunes legend @@RUn2it awesome seeing Lee out there, he pulled right up and camped with us. I could listen to his stories and advice for days! Stayed late into the day on Sunday, one last ride and then back to pack it up. Lee was just getting his new to him quad going and was out playing on the finger dune, so I pulled out the camera to take some photos of him for a change! As always a great weekend in the sand!
  3. We will be headed out to Dumont this coming weekend Friday eve through Sunday. Parking down by bathroom #3. Anyone else headed out this weekend? Can't wait for some hopefully smoothed out off weekend sand!
  4. I would give it a D+ before and after MLK weekend... and getting charged for MLK being a holiday! That should have been a smooth road!
  5. Thank you. Thankfully no one was hurt, I just wish people would be more responsible, if you really want your kid to drive, take them someplace that no one is around and take away the risk or chance of them hurting or killing someone.. and teach them how to do it as safely as possible... not teach them its ok to do this in a busy camp area... The red one full of kids, is the one that almost hit me and the dog, child had it on two wheels turning and almost dumped it over.. again right where people were transitioning into the camp area...
  6. Okay... Well apparently some very irresponsible parents and duners decided that it was a GREAT idea to let their children take their full sized sand cars and not just drive them back and forth in front of their camp but ours as well... looked like the children in both sand cars ranged in age from 8ish - 12ish.. one of them turned quickly within 30ish feet from myself while walking my dog on a leash next to my own toyhauler, trying to get it to go to the bathroom, thankfully I had one of those leashes that retract quickly. I thought what a effin a$$hat.. then I saw the children driving.. they then proceeded for about an hour to allow their children to wheelie full sized sand cars not only in front of their own camp, but ours as well, and a very busy intersection where several people had to stop abruptly so they were not hit by children doing wheelies in rails. Several parents in our camp where watching their kids play on quads in front of our camp had to stop them from playing because they were afraid of their kids on quads being run down by kids in sand rails that could not even see over the steering wheel!!!! And BIG surprise... the Shrek car strikes again!!! These guys also saw us, hanging out on a sand dune watching the sun set and still decided to take their run within 15-20 feet of us, when the leader crested the dune, we thought he was going to slide right into us and looked at us like we did something wrong.. it was obvious where we were and you could easily see us. Its unfortunate that the responsible duners have to keep an extra eye out for irresponsible turds! And apparently they are grooming and training the next generation of irresponsible duners!
  7. I will shoot you a PM... it has previously been a heated topic..
  8. Thank you guys I am just thankful no one was hurt by idiots being irresponsible. It was great to meet you as well Mike.
  9. No you weren't alone Thank you! You take awesome videos though!!
  10. We had a blast out there this weekend. Decided not to vend, good decision since the crowds were so small. Still had a couple of a$$hats in camp next to us, but we didn't let idiots ruin our weekend and thankfully no one was hurt. The road going in sucked, I don't think they did anything to it prior to the weekend. Still love the Ace, dunes were tore up and being on a quad would have been super rough and for me unbearable. The moon was awesome! The company was fantastic! While Mike, Joe and Adam were out on a "big boy" run, I took off to put around and find some ripply sand to take some photos. A friend of mine found me and we were over by Memorial Hill, she hadn't been, so we went over and paid Bert a visit. While we were there a 4 seat RZR got high centered and stuck, so team girl power came to the rescue, she pulled with her RZR and I pushed on the front and away they went to enjoy their weekend! Bert must have been looking out for them, they could have been stuck there awhile, as that area gets very little traffic. Then we putted around, stopped by vendor row and chatted with Desert Bling, they agreed it was a good weekend not to vend, since no one was there. Then we took off to play on the dunes by our camp at bathroom #3 and stopped to watch a group of people having a blast, sledding down a big hill. they would take the kids up in the sand rail and dooooownnnn they would slide! Looked like so much fun. Mike, Joe and Adam ran into us up there and we headed off to find a great spot to watch the sun go down and to do the last sunset cruise of the first weekend of 2015! Some pics from the weekend:
  11. I saw that last weekend as well and took note of it for the future trips, since we have moved to camping by BR #3 as well. I remembered thinking to myself someone is going to het hurt on that, it was super deep! I am sorry that your family got hurt. I hope your father in law a speedy and full recovery! They are very dangerous! Like Pete said unfortunately they will always happen! There were several things that happened this weekend that reminded us of why we enjoy vending on holidays, including children driving and doing wheelies in full sized sandrails, next to our camp and almost hitting myself and several others, while I realize this can happen on off weekends, it just seems like that kind of crowd hits ups the dunes on the holidays. Kiddie tracks can happen any weekend even off weekends, we just have to keep our eyes peeled for them.
  12. Here's my picture... LOL!!! By all the OMG SNOW! It's snowing... it's snowing posts I am getting on FB and all the news reports of "winter storm warning" you would think (and I say this SARCASTICALLY of course) this was happening...
  13. Thank you It was an awesome weekend! Even with the wind on Weds/Thurs and all the weird wet dunes on Thursday. Great pics Pete! Every time I see photos from that GroPro 4 makes me want one even more!
  14. Hey @@fastony ... Presidents weekend is in February... We are planning on being out there for MLK as well! I have Monday off so hopefully we will make it. Probably try to take all the toys...
  15. We headed out Tuesday night though Sunday for our traditional Christmas trip. Had to test out the sand paddles on my Ace 570 and really see how it would do in the sand after the break in period and test how well I would be able to keep up on the dune runs. We did some upgrades to the Ace, added the Pro Armor 5 point harness, Tribal Whip lighted flag, Tusk trunk bag from a RZR 800 (fit perfectly), 50 Caliber Bead Lock wheels, 25 in 7 paddle Scat Tracks in the rear and Doonz in the front. We also added 2 inch wheel spacers to widen it to just about 60 inches. She screamed through the sand! I was a bit concerned about how much fun the Ace would be over my Raptor 700. It has just gotten a bit too difficult to ride my Raptor with a knee injury. But the fun factor on the Ace was awesome! I was able keep up through the dunes with the 1K's and not be left behind wondering where everyone went. I even launched it off a transition all four wheels off the ground, landed it and it just kept going. Mike even got a "wee~wheelie" out of it! Before we put the wheel spacers in, it was a pretty rough ride, going over whoops and steep transitions from dune to flat ground, but it was much better after the spacers. Suspension would have to be my only complaint. I put 268 miles on this trip alone and Mike put 300 miles on his 1K! And together he and I went through 55 gallons of fuel!! So it was quite the four days of ride ride ride ride... especially considering the wind blew Weds and Thurs! We did end up finally just saying it and went out in the Ran into another guy with an Ace 320 at the North Pole, that was pretty cool meeting up and seeing another Ace in the dunes! I would have to say this was the best trip of this season! We had great company and campfire talk! And not hurting after rides is pretty awesome! Some of the pics from the weekend...
  16. Thank you! It a BLAST to drive!!! Even Mike and JoeDuner took it for a spin!! Can't wait for paddles and the five point harness and then see what GTP can dress it up with!
  17. Just signed the papers and had her put in the truck!!! Headed to Dumont to break her in!!! I got the 570 in Voodoo Blue! Better pics later... But here she is getting loaded!!!
  18. I thought I was going to be out of this trip as my parents from Alaska were arriving on Friday morning. My Alaska dad had been to the dunes before when he was staying with me for a time back in 2006 when I lived in Yucca Valley. So when they pulled into the house on Friday, right after the hello's the next words were "when we headed to Dumont?" So the plan was set... relax Friday and head on out Saturday morning! My mom and little brother had never been to the dunes before, so it was going to be fun to take them out. My little brother is 11yrs old and an Aleutian Indian (Eskimo) so he has never seen sand like this before! We rolled in and joined Mike, who had been out there since Friday evening. And it was unpack, toss on the helmets and lets GOOOO for a ride! I got to drive the new XP1K with my little bro for his very first ride ever through the dunes and my Alaska dad jumped in the rail with Mike for his first ever long travel sand rail ride! With JoeDuner leading, we headed out with a couple others on a great ride to the North Pole... My little bro is from near North Pole, Ak, so it was really cool to have him at the North Pole, Dumont Dunes, Ca. They both got out of the vehicles grinning from ear to ear, looking like ----> Of course their first ride had to be one of those epic sunset rides! My mom stayed back in camp and introduced herself around, she really enjoyed meeting everyone and said everyone was nice and welcoming. Settled in for the night, had some dinner, headed out to the campfire, played some games and enjoyed the campfire and general camp antics Got up early next morning and repeated, I hopped on my quad for the day, so they had to take turns riding with Mike. The highlight of my day on Sunday was when my Mom decided it was her turn to ride in the sand rail with Mike for her first ever ride through the sand dunes. We started out the ride by joining Pete to put up Bert's memorial. Mike tested out the waters on the way over, to see how my Mom would react to being in the car. Then it was off to take her on a run, with wheelies, jumps and 4th gear pinned! Mike said my Mom was giggling like a little girl the whole time!!!! We stayed late and enjoyed the dunes as long as we possibly could and headed home just before sunset! It was a great weekend! Thank you Pete for putting this weekend together!!!!! Some pics from the trip!
  19. Oh I suppose we can share them with you as well. I graduated from the baby dunes years ago, I just ned to still figure this whole raptor 700 thing out
  20. No surprise ~ Polaris never emailed me back in regards to a recall or if they were aware of the problem... they did however send me a customer service survey, that I happily filled out how unsatisfied I was and that no one had answered my question and no response was ever given. Doubt that they care, I am only one person and they are a big company that is obviously selling these XP1K's like hotcakes..
