  2. I have motorhome and I am afraid that I may get stack going in . Is there another road to camping area?
  3. Looking at the weather forecast and it's crazy. It'll be cooler for Memorial weekend than it was over Halloween weekend. Curious if anyone is going out. I actually thought about going, but have other plans already. Weather: https://www.dumontduneriders.com/invision/weather/ Weather.com: https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USCA1133:1:US
  4. I got some great info from Rose and the Barstow the BLM and Tom Gammon, pres of InterConnecting Wireless! See the article I posted...
  5. Many duners have been anxiously awaiting to hear news that the Dumont cell tower is up and running. Although early reports stated it would be completed in November 2018, that was not the case. Towards the end of the 18/19 season we saw that the service access road was completed, but that was all. Then in March, we saw they were pouring concrete at the top of the hill and that was an exciting and big step towards more progress. It is now May and we recently received word that the tower has been placed on the hill south of the camp area at the big dunes/ memorial hill area. The tower was installed using a crawler crane. Originally they were going to use a helicopter, but that would have involved additional permits which caused more problems and delays. High speed coverage for all should be available by Fall of 2019! Tom Gammon, president and founder of InterConnecting Wireless, advised us a perimeter fence goes in sometime in June. Phone carriers will soon thereafter start installing their equipment for the cell tower to be functional. AT&T is looking to start their full equipment install or deployment in July. This takes 90 to 120 days until phones work or all is fully completed. Verizon should be installing everything this fall and T-Mobile is in the process of working on doing the same. All 4 carriers will provide service as Sprint “roams” on Verizon and T-Mobile does that on AT&T! 7. This is a perfect ATV for a budding ATV enthusiast. It is fast but can be governed by adjusting a bolt. Handles well, and by adjusting the number of shocks you run, the ride can be smooth for the lower weight rider or stiffer for a heavier racer. It has been well maintained and is very reliable. This 2006 Yamaha 80 is one tough quad, registration is up to date and it is ready to go. Perfect quad for learning to ride or training ATV for racing and other 4-wheeled sports. My kids have outgrown it. - electric start - 3 speed (no clutch), just foot shift - dirt trail and sand tires - shaft drive (no chain which is great for the sand) - whip and flag - extra maintenance parts - have kids riding gear (helmet, boots, gloves, and pants/shirt) for an additional cost (or best offer, cash only, local pick up)
  8. Very cool. Are they going to print you up an old shirt?
  9. The search has finally come to an end! I still don't know if it will bear fruit, but I am in touch with them. It took several years, and lots of incorrect email addresses & websites, but I finally found out they have a legitimate website. The fact that I don't use Facebook probably slowed me down quite a bit in my search. Thanks to those of you who emailed me! Super helpful!
  10. Way cool! That's great news. I'll see if I can dig up any more info or pics. Thanks for the update.
  11. Hey everyone, it's been a bit since I've been on here. I've attempted this once before, and I don't want to sound like a broken record or get annoying to anyone here. But if any of you grew up riding at Dumont, you know what that place can mean to someone. I am disabled because of a hit and run that took my ability to walk. So getting to the dunes these days just isn't likely for me. But as a collector of nostalgia from my younger years, I am very much interested in getting in contact with the Tshirt guy who's been selling at Dumont forever. I am not sure which holidays he sets up, but if anyone could just help me get in contact with him, I'd even be willing to pay you for your time. I have to assume that he won't be selling out there forever. And seeing as I'm pushing 40 and used to get shirts from him when I was a kid, my window is likely closing very quickly. I know his business is called California Casuals, but the only thing I could find online as far as contact info goes was outdated. If anyone here has his contact information, or anything that could help me, contact me here, or email me at raceblakhart@gmail.com Otherwise, I'm definitely willing to pay someone who's going to be out there the next time he's set up to sell to talk to him for me. Thanks for taking the time to read this craziness. I appreciate you all. Stay safe, Trevor Race
  12. I know I'm over a decade late on this thread, but I'm surprised nobody mentioned the "The Cell" from 2000 with Jennifer Lopez, Vince Vaughn, and Vincent D'Onofrio. The very first scene has to be Dumont. I mean, I haven't been there for 20 years, but I've been there at least 20 times, and the details of the sand, and layout of the dunes (from Dead Horse Bowl to The Face, and all the way down the Armagosa) are burned into my mind. It looks like they brought in a rotten ship and some dead trees for the scene, but other than that...it's all Dumont! (After all that, I am probably wrong.)
