  1. Hittin' up Glamis the 27th-29th then I guess the dirt tires will go on for some Ocotillo Wells and Johnson Valley fun in the sun. May try and make a day trip or two back up to D but it's starting to get hot. 102/103 for Glamis this weekend, hopefully much cooler the following weekend.

St. Anthony over Labor Day for DS Days.

    Have a safe summer folks.

  2. Had to have been there to see a lot of things!

Got in some good rides and did a little bit of wrenching along the way but that's par for most dune trips I think. Got to meet some great DDR peeps in Jim and Kris. Hope to hang and ride with you fine folks again next season. Gotta come on down to Glamis for a trip or two. Good meetin' ya. :drinkbeer:

Hope you guys get your EFI issue figured out.

I'll see if I can't download some of the pics that I took seeing as to how Ray is having an issue doing so. :slap:

A big thanks to Jim for leading some killer rides that Dylan could learn on and meet, or exceed in some cases, his limits! He caught on quick and I think he may have our addiction. :atv::whoop:

Not too bad for a rookie...

  3. Oh! Well then quads it is. You are more than welcome to join our group. It's small and we're going to be breaking in a couple of dune newbs so nothing as intense as any of Pete's awesome rides but still a fun and enjoyable weekend all the same.

I usually try and get up in the cul-de-sac (B-14) but if you don't mind us joining your camp then we'll pull in where you're already set up. Is B-10ish about right? Got stuck as hell last time we went up in the cul-de-sac anyway so I might rethink that area until my load gets lighter.

  4. Rolling in Friday morning with a herd of Sand Pigs. I guess if four or five makes a herd anyways. Two Dumont rookies in tow so I hope the sand isn't shredded too early in to the trip. Looks to be shaping up for an awesome weekend conditions wise.

    Ride safe. See ya'll there.

  5. So you're not still working there then I take it? Wouldn't recommend it at all???

Bruce, I have a friend up in Winnemucca who works the gold mines I can put you two in touch if you would like. I know one of the gold mines over near Elko NV (Newmont Mining) hired 600 people last year and are doing the same thing this year. They had 35,000 applicants for the 600 jobs! I would say experience is a plus. They're looking for Vets too. Former Marine heavy equiptment operator got a job hauling the dirt in and out of the mine in those big azzed trucks for $60K a year. Takes 120 tons of dirt to extract 1 once of gold in that particular operation.

Feeds the kids though I guess.

    Hope you find something soon.

  6. i know this is about your lost flag, but can i ask where you had it made at?

His name is Scott, goes by TheStir, and is the Administrator over at DS650.org. A busy busy man but he may be able to hook you up if he's got time. Tell him Ace sent you. These things are very heavy duty and will last forever. If you can keep up with them!lol

  7. Jeezus! Where to start??? All I can say is that in all the years that I've been going to Dumont I have never experienced the sand like it was when I arrived Thursday morning. We put on 40 miles on Thursday alone. Friday came and we went through fuel like never before. It was still buttery smooth and the few rails out there couldn't even have messed it up. Still pretty deserted too. Saturday came and we hooked up with Pete and the rest of the day ride crew for some hair raising riding to be sure. I think a couple of young studs were quite surprised that two old fat a$$ dudes on sand pigs could hang with them but hang we did! And man was it a blast. Thanks Pete. You lead some amazing rides bro.

I guess in all of the excitement to get out and play casual introductions were skipped over. My buddy was BigRay800. I think he lurks here on ocassion but he is well known on all of the DS forums. He's good people and loves helping out as you all observed. He'd do anything for anybody to get them back in the game and out of some effed up situations.

By the time we got ready to roll out on Sunday afternoon we had logged 215 miles on the GPS. Was pretty much out of fuel at that point anyway.

Being ready to roll out is when the real fun began! I had parked way up on the cul de sac and when I got ready to pull forward it felt like I just broke through and sank. We pulled and dug, pulled and dug, and pulled and dug. Moved the truck and trailer about 30 feet in 2 1/2 hours and we were exhausted and out of water to soak the sand with. Went in search of help, the place was almost cleared out and those who were still there were hooked up. Finally scored and found a Chevy 2500 unhitched. The gentleman came up to help out and in very short order was buried hisself. Stopped before he got in too deep so we hooked up Ray's Ranger and proceeded to have three trucks buried nice and neat all in a line! On the hunt I went again. Found a F-350 who was out riding the first time I visited his camp and he came on up and in very short orded had the three of us out of the ruts and heading down onto the flats. Thanks so much to both of you gentlemen who lended a hand.

So long story short: I stop a Baker to dump and a Charter bus is pulled up to the site. Comes up to me after I observe him scratching his head in wonder for a few minutes, ask if I have a hose. I give him my sewer hose, my flush hose, my wand, and some latex gloves. He heads back to the back of his bus, scratches his head some more, comes back over and says he has never done this before and ask if I can come help him. Get him hooked up and pull his T-handle and nothing! The shaft is broken from the slide! Big bouncer dude from the Charter company tells the driver he has to get the tank dumped as the toilet is backed up and almost overflowing into the bus. I'll leave out all of the gory details but the driver gets out of the toilet one ladies shrt, one pair of panties, one pair of socks, two Coke cans, a Pepsi can, and two water bottles. Now he does all of this from the bottom of the tank. Let's just say it was quite interesting and quite messy. I help him clean up his mess and get the wedding party back on their way from Vegas to San Diego. About an hour and change in all. Knocked out my dump and flush in about 10 minutes and head off to 29 Palms.

Smooth sailing now and the dunes were so great that even being stuck for three hours and then the ordeal at Valero couldn't put a damper on the weekend. But wait, what the hell was that noise? Heading up the grade from Kelso I look in the mirror and see white smoke and chunks of Goodyear Marathon being wildly tossed about! Get out of harms way and onto one of the softest shoulders I've ever seen in the desert. Give AAA a call and an hour and 15 minutes later help arrives, gets my spare on in ten minutes and I'm back underway. Got to watch a beautiful sunset on Kelso Dunes while I waited and daydreamed about what it would be like to be able to ride the third largest dunes in North America.

Got home just in time to clean up and get in bed as I had a class to be in all week long. It was nice to just be able to chill and let the old body recover from 215 miles of the best dune riding I've ever had.

Yo Pete, where's my plug kit!?!?! LOL

  8. Lost my flag out at D on Thursday the 1st. Our first ride pretty much covered everything from Banshee Hill to the North Pole with every nook and cranny in between. We only saw around four or five other riders that day so hopefully someone picked it up. We back tracked our route which wasn't too difficult since we pretty much made the only group tracks that day. Never did see it so I assume it was rescued by a concerned duner. The wind wouldn't have blown it away as it is heavy rubberized nylon. International orange with the black DS650.org logo and my handle, aceisisback, in KISS font.

Hit every square inch of Dumont on Friday the 2nd and again on the 3rd with Pete leading the way so no grain was left unturned. I'll be out again for the clean up so if you happen to stumble upon it it is not trash. Would love to have it back as it's a one of a kind and a good friend made it for me. Here's a pic:

    I appreciate your help.

  9. Yo Pete swing by and get me before y'all head out on this ride. Or at least post up where it departs from and a approximate time.

I'll be rolling in around 10 in the morning (Thurs) and am staying until Sunday afternoon. If it's not taken when I get there I'm gonna try and get up in the cul de sac (B-14). Not sure if that's a wise thing to attempt with noone else around to help if you get stuck but I always enjoyed the peace and quiet up there back in the day when Cheese used to go to the dunes.

Looking forward to this ride if the dunes have recovered from Pres Day.

  10. Unfortunately the Obama administration has created another whole generation of these folks who think that the Government OWES them something. Doesn't matter how much you pay in taxes we all feel like we pay too much, but if you blatantly don't pay your use fees for the BLM areas then Karma will come around and visit you from time to time.

If you didn't make up the game then you must play by someone elses rules. I actually appreciate the LEOs and Rangers being out there in some capacity. Keeps the n'er do wellers in check and the rest of us safer.

How do you "forget" to buy a pass the last few years???

  11. RIP fellow duner. Hate hearing this stuff but it is also why I will never go back to Dumont on a holiday weekend. One year ago today my son and a very good friend of mine were involved in a serious crash at Comp. Those that saw it remember the carnage well. I went against my better judgement that weekend and it almost turned tragic for two seperate families. Things happened to where it was destroyed machines and bruised and battered bodies but fortunately nothing more serious.

Having said that, we just rolled back in from Glamis and it was very crowded and busy but you could also head south of Olds and have miles and miles of dunes damn near to yourself. Big crowds at China Wall but out in the dunes was as safe as you wanted to ride. Think I'll save Dumont for the non holiday weekends.

    Rida safe ya'll.
