  1. The jeep is heavy because of the engine and the full width large axles but it does have plenty of power to turn the four large paddles. You might see this one running with another CJ5 with large axles and tires. The wide stance lets them hang like spiders on the side hill. That video was the maiden voyage to work out the bugs. You will likely see it more in Pismo than Dumont (closer to home).
  2. This topic has been sitting for a little while but I would like to continue to promote the thought of running this jeep in the sand. I run my trail jeep in the dunes all the time. I have a V8 and run in 2nd gear high range all day long. My other club members that run your same engine might have to run 1st gear or 3-4 in low range to keep up the wheel speed. We all put paddles is back and leave the trail tires on front. If you run trail tires only, you can get around but are unlikely to top the big hills. Pismo sand is larger and allows trail tires more than Dumont fine sand. Don't worry you can run on both dirt and sand.
  3. Your site has really done well. I like your new look. Well done Pete.
  4. The flyer looks like everything is the same. Hill climbs on Saturday and heads up drag racing on Sunday. It will be alittle disheartening knowing that last year I won the unlimited class hill climbs and this year I am only watching. But I will have much more time for beers. We expect to camp up the hill like always... See you there.
  5. I hope to meet up with you folks this year. We rolled the jeep this summer and it will not be racing, so we will have more time to ride and socialize. See you there!
  6. I have a 38CK Holiday Rambler that measures 40 foot on the outside. This has 20 feet to the first cabinet and another 3 feet past that. This picture shows the current configuration but I am working on a rack to stack the golf cart over the quads. This leaves all of the living space open for use on the road.
  7. I was in the infield at Fontana this weekend. We paid $175 for the trailer spot and $50 a head for pit passes for the weekend. I had a fine time with a three day long party, plenty of nice people, and they had racing around the outside as well! From what I heard the new owner is raising the rates to try and push out the low end fans and use the area for high end sponsors with big money. There are endless ways to spend big money at a race event but there are still ways to enjoy with out the $. The real tragedy is the $7.00 beers and the $5.00 hot dogs. I live on the coast and not used to the heat. The 110 degree temp with no breeze in camp is what will keep me away next time.
  8. Perhaps alittle more than that. The rear axle had all of the four link and locating bars sheared off and the radiator support is bent back into the motor. The oil pan is smashed and the air cleaner is folded to the side. I need to check the motor in detail before it is back. The fiberglass body just laid back in place to hide most of the damage. Tim
  9. Well Chuck now wants to join the roll over club. We were at Pismo messing around and Chuck got sideways and rolled the tire off the bead. He went over three times at speed and landed on the wheels(rims). You might notice that he didn't even break the flag whip so he was flipping in the air. No injuries except to Chucks pride and wallet. He was giving a ride. What a ride!
  10. This is the first outing at Avenal in the new trailer. Everything fits inside as one rig. Substitute the dragster for three quads on dune trips.
  11. Humbler, Glad you did well. Are you going to Avenal on April 8-9 ? Tim
  12. Racing keeps me to busy. When we lose we are done about mid day and can go play. Saturday I left my camp for the races and 8:00am and didn't return until after dark. Sunday I didn't get back until about 5:00pm. Monday I went to the camp but all were gone. I knew people on both sides of your camp and they just pointed to the big empty space on Monday. Dumont is a bit of a drive for me and my schedule is very busy with two young kids and race season. I typically make my quick weekend up to Oceano Dunes. They are not as big but much closer.
  13. I have two. The first is a trail and sand jeep. I did not have this one out there on Pres weekend. The second is the race jeep which some have seen. Anybody else?
  14. Can I take a shot at your club? 1. I was driving my trail jeep in dirt when the hillside gave way. I steered into it But it got to steep and I went over the hood. 2. I was at Pismo giving my wife her first ride in the dunes. I was doing some side hill and caught an edge and put the jeep on its side. I was lucky enough to have my wife in the air and not in the sand. 3. I was giving a guy a ride (John somebody) just met him 5 minutes before. I was in a long side hill drift and the motor stuttered. That was enough for the front end to settle and toss us over. I yell to the guy to put your head down and keep your mouth shut.( nothing worse than a mouth full of sand). When we stop I ask are you OK. and he Yells THAT WAS GREAT!. These are all in my trail jeep. I have not yet flipped the race jeep.(but I have been close) Well what do you think? Tim
  15. Thanks Don, for your semi-support.
