  1. There are no noise restrictions at Dumont per the BLM web site; BLM>California>Barstow>Dumont Dunes Print Page Barstow Field Office Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area The Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area, also referred to as an Open Area, is an exciting and remote area for off-highway vehicle recreation. Bordered by steep volcanic hills and the slow running Amargosa River, the region is easily recognized from a distance by its distinctive sand dunes. The elevation here varies from 700 feet, at the river, to 1200 feet at the top of Competition Hill, the tallest of the dunes. The historic Tonapah and Tidewater Railroad, to the east, was in operation between 1905 and 1940. The vegetation here consists of creosote scrub, some annual grasses, and wildflowers in the spring. The low elevation in the area makes for warm to extremely hot conditions in spring and summer. Early spring wildflower displays in this vicinity can be quite impressive. For more information about Dumont Dunes - call (760) 252-6000 The Dumont Dunes Sub-Group of the Desert Advisory Council invites interested members of the public to attend a Meeting. The Dumont Sub-Group will be in session at the Barstow Field Office located at 2601 Barstow Road, Barstow, CA 92311. Please join us there, the office # is 760 252-6000 for meeting dates and times. ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` IMPORTANT INFORMATION about DUMONT DUNES PASSES DUMONT DUNES SEPTEMBER 2008 UPDATE NEW GUIDANCE ON ENTRANCE (LANES) DUMONT DUNES Please Note the following: Visitors to the Dunes need a pass for each vehicle driven into the dunes, not for your towed trailer and green sticker vehicles in your truck or trailer, but only for the primary vehicle you drive in with when you enter and exit. Redlands, CA. 92373..909 793-2333 Access The riding area is south of the Amargosa River and east of Highway 127, about 31 miles north of Baker, California. There are two ways of getting to the dunes. The Little Dunes staging and camping area is directly off Highway 127, conveniently located for immediate staging. One mile north of here, just off Highway 127, is Dumont Road, a dirt road which follows and crosses the river, leading to the main field of large dunes. Activities Most visitors ride motorcycles or ATVs, sand rails, or tour the area in vehicles with four-wheel-drive. The area off Dumont Road is used extensively for OHV and sand rail staging and play. There are many opportunities for hiking, rock scrambling, rockhounding, and bird-, and wildlife-watching in the hills away from the dunes. The Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area consists of several riding opportunities. The Dumont “Little” Dunes is a favorite place for families with smaller children. The dune field is more forgiving to riders with novice to intermediate skill levels and those who wish to practice in a safer environment. This small low dune field is connected to the main Dumont dune field by a corridor and is there to allow all types of off-road vehicles to legally access the two dune fields. The main dune field is Dumont Dunes. This field consists of steep dunes with sharp razor backs and deep witches eyes and should be traversed by experienced dune riders. Riders should always do a check ride to find changes in the dune field before attempting a high speed run. The back side of the dunes around the race track is an excellent place for novice and intermediate riders to traverse a multitude of dunes that approximate their skill level. There several areas around the dune fields that are within the boundary of the off-highway Vehicle Area and will challenge the novice and intermediate riders on terrain other than sand The Sperry Wash Route is an open “limited use” route that travels up the Amargosa River to Sperry Wash. This route travels over some extremely rocky and rutted terrain but is a good challenge for the novice to intermediate rider. This route is limited use and straying from the marked route is prohibited. The Kingston Range Wilderness borders the riding area to the north. This area is closed to motor vehicles. Travel outside the riding area to the south and east is permitted only on designated routes and only with street-legal vehicles. Extremes of heat and cold are common. Emergency help is not immediate. Rules and Regulations All vehicles must have a muffler or spark arrester and have either a street-legal license or be registered as an off-highway vehicle. If you are not a resident of California and your OHV is not registered in your home state, you are required to have a California "Nonresident" OHV permit to legally operate your vehicle. All OHVs must have a mast and red or orange flag for visibility in the dunes. Vehicles operated at night must use both headlights and taillights. Helmets are required to be worn by all riders of ATVs. Only one person at a time is allowed on an ATV. Possession or use of any glass container, empty or not, used for carrying any liquid for drinking purposes is prohibited (43 CFR 8361.1-6). Camping is allowed anywhere within the riding area as long as it does not block travel on a road, and is limited to a 14-day stay. Shooting is not permitted within this area. Draining of sewage tanks, littering, or dumping of trash is prohibited. Possesion or use of any glass container used for carrying any liquid for drinking purposes is prohibited. (43 CFR 8361.1-6)
  2. You can blame all of this on the mayham that occured in Southern Ca. a few years ago during the off road race where the trucks landed on the idiots who stood to close. Since then the BLM/USFS and any other local or federal goverment enities have come down hard on anything that could even be remotely construed to be an organized event. Why? Well there's a huge liability issue now facing the goverments about who is responsible when people get hurt at a so called "event". Since there is no promoter then the victim or his family is going sue the living sh*t out of the federal or local goverment(or both) that controls that piece of dirt. If you want to race then you need to get insurance to protect the goverment from lawyers, therefore unless your rich you have to charge an admission fee to pay for it all and thus you have an organized event where someone other than BLM etc is responsible. But wait there's more, you have to have security, medical on site and a list of other stuff. Just ask Pete how easy it is to put on the regatta each year and why the poker run at Dumont went way. To much hassle and in these finacial times just to damm much money. Terry
  3. A couple of comments about guilty conciensce and "Looks like a match... dude better be able to explain WHO gave it to him or.. possesion of stolen property.. etc. etc." Some other things ike that. maybe I took them wrong but seemed like they had the bus fired up and trying to run Randy over with it. Just my opinion.
  4. I also agree that Randy did a great job and went above and beyond! I also found it strange that there were "haters" on GD.com about his attempts to do the right thing. i think there are a couple of members over there that owe randy an apology. Terry
  5. Uhh, thanks for the offer Pat but i can feed myself and have you looked at your hands lately? No telling what you been scratching at your age. I think I would be better off just eating it straight off of the plate.
  6. very cool, Good job randy!! Crime fighter of the week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. The owner Casey is the promoter for the BITD series. He's a pretty nice guy. I have alked to him a couple of times when trying to get raffle prizes for clean up.
  8. Isn't there a KTM dealer on Boulder highway next to Nv. Suzuki?
  9. The question was what are we doing over the weekend not what are we thinking about. In each persons mind espically in my generation we have realized the mistakes that were made during the Vietnam war and the lack of the due owed to the vets who returned and those who did not. I think we as a country have done a great job of changing that which happened so long ago. I for one although having never served had a brother who did 2 tours in Nam as a Green Beret, do you not think I appreciatre what he did and the sacfrices he has made his whole life because of it? It changes a person who comes back from a conflict. I can attest to some of it after 8 years in police work although different it is actually quite the same. Believe me it might not be in my posts but it is in my heart and that is what matters, not words on a post read by a few. Terry
  10. We just bought a 2011 Safari unlimited 4 dr with removeable hardtop. It is my wife's daily driver and our tow vehicle for the motorhome. The good- it's comfortable, easy to drive and is fun. The 2012 is supposed to have 80 more HP which will help with power but not sure on mileage side. Their are so many options to either get or buy afterwards but the option I would not want to live without is Chryslers U-Connect bluetooth/satillite and GPS system. It is easy to use and requires no looking away from the road to make calls or get directions. We are thinking that sometime down the road to changing wheels from stock but don't think we will go bigger tires or a lift as it does a number on gas mileage. It also runs on regular not premium like her FJ cruiser did. Down side the 2011 is a little underpowered and gas mileage of around 18 is not that great. If you want to buy here in Vegas I can help with that as my wife is the controller for both Chapman dealerships here and can make sure you get well taken care of and none of the usual BS. Let me know if I can offer any more info? Overall we are glad we bought it and would do it again. Terry
  11. You wouldn't lie to me would you? "..... it was all good!"
  12. Uhmm, let's see? I guess my Memorial plans are tryin to find anything to do that is different than what I have been doing for the last 3 weeks which is sitting on my arse and having my arm in a sling. I can only hope the speed channel is up to par and their is some racing on tv as I have watched every free movie on starz, showtime and HBO. Only 4 more weeks of this sling and then physical therapy for 6 weeks. This is gonna be a long dam summer. At least I can get in the pool in about a week. Not complaining as the shoulder already feels better than it did but recovery sucks. Everybody be safe and have fun. Raise one for me!
  13. This is actually good as the state of California has been raping the Ca. state OHV fund for years. I don't mind paying a fee as long as the money stays in use for OHV use. Now the question is what is the state of Nevada going to do to improve OHV areas or will they be thievin bastards like ca? I would unfortunetly bet on the latter. Terry
  14. It is an old rumor and there's nothing to it.
  15. nice bike Pete! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Really great deal! Instead of re-doing the twin beds in the back and losing some more headroom you may want to just put an air bed down on the floor and tip it out of the way in the morning. Just as comfy, with an air pump would take no time to fill and I bet the kids fight over the air bed vs. the typical lousy RV mattress? Either way you go you came out very well on the whole deal, congrats!! Terry
  17. From wehat I am hearing that decision won't be made for about 6 more months. Then we will all find out together I suppose

  19. I know it's in Boulder City which may be a drive for some but the Pit Stop is a great place for burgers and fish & Chips etc. Simple menu, good prices and there's always the brewery around the corner for a cold one after dinner. Just a suggestion since everyone seems to be all over the place? Have fun, Terry
