Sorry but you are entering a federal property and a fee demo area. if they want to walk a dog by and it alerts on your rig, The dog alerting is probable cause to believe that a crime is being committed. Do I think it was a good idea, nope I think it was profiling but then I do believe in profiling so it puts me in a quandry. Was it neccassary? Well if it saved one life by keeping "Stoned" people off of the dunes well then yes I will go for it but I still don't like it nor would I have been happy to have had to go through any hassle if the dog alerted on me. I do not carry nor partiucpate in narcotic use but dogs do make mistakes. But having to explain why I have weapons in my RV and them searching my personal possessions would have sent me to the moon. I think it was a chicken sh*t thing to do but who am i to stand in the way of the county trying to find cash lying on the ground.

I did not go to Dumont this weekend but have read about the "Enforcement Issue" I called Larry Blaine @ BLM to find out what was up as this isn't the norm for Dumont. He told me that San Bernardo S.O. decided to do this without even notifying the BLM which is their right to do. Apparently they were looking for drugs and apparently found a pretty good supply of them in several vehicles that the K-9 hit on. I don't understand it but if your going to bring drugs to federal land then you may get popped, that's just a sign of the times I guess. My understanding is that they also recovered a stolen vehicle(not sure what kind) and there were several citations issued. There was NO fee demo money used for this operation so we as duners did not spend any of our fee money for this. This was a County operation and those that are upset about a waste of assets in that county need to complain to the SO or board of county commissioners. He also told me that all his officers were in uniform and marked vehicles. That does not mean that the SO may have had undercover guys out there. There were 8200 vehicles that went through the gate, if you take that x 3.5 per vehicle thats about 25,000 Plus people in a small area. That's about the size of some towns in San Bernardino county so having extra LEO's on a holiday weekend should not be a surprise to anybody. On the good side there was only one transport by ambulance and 9 total medical calls, 6 of which were broken arms. All in all that is a pretty small amount of calls for service for a 3 day weekend and 25K + people. I hope this answers your questions about what happened out there over the weekend. Also a side note there was about 24% fewer vehicles/people than last year. What that means to me is that the economy is not getting any better and is still sliding and making it difficult for people to spend money on OHV use. Terry

My thoughts are with you guys, I am sorry to hear that this happened and I know how difficult recovery from replacement surgery is so this on top of it , well it's not a good thing. I hope your recovery smooths out and we can all be around the campfire soon! Terry

The dunes are soft, and have deep holes where there were none before. The razor's are sharp and some have the bumpy ridges along the top. As usual take it easy till you've scouted your high speed run out and remember that it is a holiday weekend and since it's the official start of the season people are all full of the new stuff they bought or improvements they made and the adrenaline is a little off the scale. For your own safety keep an eye out for the "crazies" and don't be one of them. Unfortunately bad things happen and I don't want any bags coming out of the dunes. Which BTW there is a ton of garbage on the flats and in the dunes, so if you take a break while out in the dunes pick up anything that may be out there that's not supposed to be there. That goes for the flats also, please haul out more than you take in! Be safe and have a great weekend! Terry

Mine was a little rough due to a major electrial issue on the trailer then the M/H. But all in all a weekend at Dumont is better than being town!
-
It was pretty rough going in last thursday but going out Sunday was pretty good. Took the M/H out at about 20 without any issues other than the dust which is kind of hard to delete since it is in the middle of the BFE desert!

Crossing the river is nothing to worry about it's a concrete bridge. Remember the closer you get to any of the fingers and or dunes the softer it gets. If you decide to go to the left from the road look for the rocky ridges to travel to your spot. When you go into a valley hit the gas and carry some steam as they can be a little softer than they look. If you go to the right there is plenty of firm ground until you get close to the dune fingers. If in doubt stop on firm ground and walk to where your thinking of camping. Although there may not be a lot of people out there this weekend most anybody will help if you get stuck. Have fun, be careful these dunes are quite a bit different than Glamis. If you are going out and see other people going out you can usually pull in behind and join there run. Most everybody has no problem with it. If you have any questions please feel free to come by Bathroom #9 and ask for Terry. Are camp will be a couple of M/H with trailers and a weekend warrior f'vr attached to a white dodge.

I am going to throw this out as it happened to me. After rebuilding the carbs the slides got mixed up and the right went into the left and left into right. It idled fine but was rough at high RPM's. It also went thru fuel like it was dumping it out of the pipes. On a whim you might just check your slides and make sure the slide with the set-up for the choke(left side) is in the correct hole. It's an easy mistake and can be a pain to figure out. Hope it helps

Jealousy is such an evil thing!
-
We are going to try and tolerate the 88 degree weather and less people than Halloween so we can get in some good sand time. We are camping near #9. Anybody else going out?
-
Put the carbs back to where they were and then that will tell you if it's your carb adjustment or your clutch install

Divet is a golf term but if you want to apply it here that's fine, now a Duvet would be something completly different and you would have to go to the home decorating web pages which your new wife will have you on very soon anyway!

Just so you know the difference between a Witches eye and a Pimple is the witches eye is a 'innie" and a pimple is an "outie"

Mid week wind heading in next week, should be the start of the winds moving to the north and blowing the sand back over to the south side. Fingers crossed!

It's been awhile since I was at armagosa. I always looked at it like this, it's the same distance almost to the mile from my house to Dumont as Armagosa. So my likely choice has always been Dumont. To many stories about rigs getting stuck out there and with little or no one else out there to help, that get's expensive. Motorhomes lack the ability to just get "hooked Up" and yanked out. Mine has to be pulled from the rear due to the front fiberglass. So then it's dealing with getting a trailer out of the way. It's just a less stress trip for me to Dumont. I have been to sand mountain and it's nice there but a wee bit of a distance for mostly hill shooting. I have seen pics of the Tonopah dunes and although they look fun there apparently pretty small and also a 4-5 hour pull. So unless I am going to St. Anthony's or glamis then i am inclined to spend my time at dumont.

Nice rig, many safe journey's to you and your family!!

First of all I don't ride in Nevada. Second I rarely if ever carry my drivers license with me when I am riding (so it does not get lost) Third i have been stopped in Utah with my Or. stickers and released without a hint of an issue. My issue with paying any state money for OHV use is what they do with the funds. Utah and Or. do a good job of putting the money back into OHV trails and parks. Ca. and NV. not so good the other thing is that unless you break the rules at Dumont you rarely get hassled. I am not saying I am perfect but i do obey the rules as close as I can. I don't speed in camp, i don't drink and drive and I go out of my way to stay out of an accident or incident of any kind. I go to Dumont to enjoy the sand and pretty much am either in camp or on the dunes. So far this has worked just fine for me. I did not even have ANY stickers on my OHV's until last year. Never got stopped once. It's all in the way you behave is my belief. Jim, thanks for the compliment but I still screw up just like everybody else. Only difference is i know I do most of the time when I do:)
