  1. The ASA is not nor will be getting involved with Dumont. They are watching "closely" to support FoDD if we need it but ASA has to much on their plate to get involved with Dumont. On a side note any purchases you buy of ASA stuff the money goes to Glamis NOT the support of Dumont or Friends of Dumont Dunes.
  2. Forget the over & under! Go pump, that sound makes criminals drop little brown eggs in their pants
  3. Don't think we will be there for this Thanksgiving. Have a cold one for me!
  4. Actually the road thru Pahrump is just a little less than 15 miles more than the Tecopa road. The road is MUCH better without any bone jarring hitch dragging holes. I have been going that way for 35 years and switched to the Pahrump way last year for the safety of my family and my equiptment. Also very easy to stop at Smiths when the wife forgets a certain breakfast component
  5. Pete can we start an attendance list for this meeting? The room itself is not that big and I would like to give BLM advance warning if we are going to overflow it. Since your the Corp. Prez and overlord of the kingdom I am asking on bended knee.
  6. "Here's how I see it, everyone- if you don't like comp then don't go there just like ynot doesn't. I don't think comp is any worse than it used to be in the past few years." Pete that is my point if you complain about how comp hill is then don't go. Would I like to see a boycott for just one weekend, well yeah i would. Why, just to see how much of an impact it would have, more curiosity I guess than anything. Pete, the problem has been the last "few years" it continues to get worse. Years ago it was great fun and even safe to go there. Not so much these last few years.
  7. Pete, I try not to blow things out of proportion but after reading all the posts about comp (as I did not see them for myself) I thought a general boycott of the hill might have an effect. I am not saying don't ever go back but if we use the power of this site and others and boycott the hill one night or one big weekend and let's see what happens. Maybe nuthin will change but maybe it will put an idea into peoples heads that if the LEO's get enough support that maybe they can clean it up without all of us being in the way. Kind of hard to know who will back you and who will attack you in that big of a crowd. It is just a thought. After reading all the posts about comp hill the only positive ones that I saw were that it was a "great party" all the other ones were complaints. I am only offering suggestions. I for one will not be going out there anytime soon and I don't miss it. One last thing Pete, if you had kids would you be proud to take them out there and show them the stuff that goes on? I can't figure why people take their kids out there to watch others and most of the time their parents get drunk and stupid and then risk their lives driving back to camp. Just a personal observation from an old man who has seen his fair share of stupid. Pete, thanks for the oppurtunity to use your space to say my piece!
  8. Meetings start at 10:00 Am and generally end at 2:00 but this one could be longer due to it being attended by guests which we normally have very few if any of. It is a 2 1/2 hr drive each way so I would suggest getting a ride as it will be a long day espically on no sleep.
  9. Well I am gonna get flamed for this but here goes; What if people just stopped going to comp hill on big weekends? No driving from camp after having a few and risking tickets and or arrests. You know as well as I do that the "idiots" are only there because of the crowd, they get off on being seen and in their bloodshot eyes they think that being seen is being cool. If you go out on a off weekend and no one is there most of us will hang for a short while then go back to camp or visit friends camps. Why can't you skip the trip to the hill? I had stated on this board that I was not doing any more big weekends and then I went this last one. I never went by comp once except to the meet and greet via the dunes not the flats. You know what I had a great weekend. What did I miss? Let's see I missed seeing a guy get run over by a buggy, i missed numerous close calls and other things such as trash, smoking dope and other generally things illegal. Not that I am a prude i used to party with the best of them but I have found that it's just not worth it to risk life and limb to watch dumbazzes do the stupid human tricks they do out there. It used to be about racing the hill at night now it's seeing who has the most testostrone and ego along with bling. Sorry to see that. You want the LEO's to come over and fix the problem that we have created by going there in the first place, another whoa is me, we have a problem that the goverment must fix, sorry they are not going to face a crowd of drunk, meth'd up, stoned azzhats with only a small amount of LEO's and no back up for 100 miles. Would you for a speeding violation? We as a group need to step up and put a stop to this crap, do you take your children to this madhouse? What kind of impression does that give them when they are old enough to go out there on there own without you? I used to see mom and dad drink themselves into oblivion and drive over to comp to watch the other drunks. Hell of a legacy we are creating here don't you think? Sorry for the long preach, I will get off my soap box but think about this if your not part of the cure then YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!
  10. Phil, thank you for your input. If we can get the vendors to talk/e mail the Blm and maybe evn come to the TRT meeting on 11-17 maybe we can get this to happen. I was at the last trt meeting and the "water" was discussed and they are workingon a strainer to keep fishy's and other assorted things out so we can go back to using the river water in the trucks.
  11. No need in wasting fuel for 1 or 2 when there are empty seats. I can take 3 with me or join in on somebody with an empty seat.
  12. Bob, you don't have a battery shut off and a removable steering wheel?
  13. We need to get a Vegas car pool started. No need in wasting fuel for 1 or 2 when there are empty seats. I can take 3 with me or join in on somebody with an empty seat.
  14. Woodster that's why we wanted you on the board of directors for friends of Dumont you think outside the box! I will pass that idea on to BLM but won't do much this season as we won't be getting any asphalt until at least March unless the USMC would like to donate some piles of it I heard about scattered about on a certain base not to far from Dumont?
  15. Mike that comment was not meant at you, no disrespect intended. I was trying to compress an answer as a whole not to anyone specific. If that did not come through please accept my apology.
  16. I had some e mails from one of the vendors today and he(they) were unhappy with the amount of silt/dust this weekend that seemed to hang around their area. My suggestion to him was that maybe we make an area like the district at Green Valley Ranch and make it pedestrians only. Split the vendors onto both sides and rope/block both ends with parking on each end. Then have the water truck come thru in the AM and give te walking area a little blast to keep the dust down. His statement was that people liked to cruise the vendor's row. That's what's causing the dust in my opinion so if we make it a walk way it would certainly help. Also by putting them across from each other it makes it a easier walk and people will spend more time which could equal more sales. What are your thoughts?
  17. Here are my observations for the Halloween weekeend; I love my camp and the people I camp with. They are just like my family and I would do anything for them. Staying away from comp hill was an easy way to keep my blood pressure down pushing the slideout button and nothing happens is not a good thing HAVING CREATIVE FRIENDS WHO ARE WILLING TO HELP IS PRICELESS!! Thanks to Dennis, Ash, Jodi, Walter, and anybody else I am forgetting. Being away from the dust and the BS was a nice relaxing thing Going on fast dune rides with good drivers and riders is more fun than I know how to express Going on fast dune rides that end to quickly is not so much fun Coming back over the hill and seeing everybody on the run was safe and sound is a GOOD thng Watching Pete go backwards thru the dunes funny but heartbreaking, Dude I feel for you I was not planning on going for Halloween but am glad I did, it was a very nice relaxing weekend and a good time was had by all, even with 7 people in the motorhome we had a great time, thanks Walter and Laura for making it easy!
  18. I will address these as best I can. I have talked to the head LEO at BLM about these issues and more but this is the condensed version. 1) camp racers are a problem in the fact that the LEO's have to actually catch them, so do they turn on their lights and sirens and go 80 MPH past the camps to try to catch them and then what if someone pulls out in front of the ranger in pursuit? The lawyer will ask if the officers actions were prudent and that would be a tuff one to defend ranger says : I was trying to stop a camp racer who might have killed someone" to which the attny would respond that" well he didn't but you did" The liability issue is huge and then what if the guys are on 2 wheelers or fast buggies or quads and run off into the dunes, do you put a ranger at risk in a high speed pursuit for a misdemanor ticket? The truth is they do what they can but it is impossible to stop it all and the only way to stop more of it is there prescence and education. 2) Staking the dunes has been addressed and I believe the law has been requested but has to run thru federal channels before it goes into the federal registry and becomes law. Best advice I can tell you is don't go on them and take an unneccassary risk. 3)Trash is my big issue, I left camp in my rhino to go to see Pete and almost ran over a all glass firepit. I went back to camp and got a garbage bag and filled it with beer bottles(broken o course) 3 bottles of grey goose vodka and other assorted glas and aluim products. Just when I thought I had it all I would find another row buried in the sand. It took a concious effort to do this and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. One of the campers I camped with walked our camp just prior to all of us leaving and found 2 pieces of paper that blew in. Everybody as far as I know picked up at least 1 bag of junk lying around that wasn't there's. Is there a way to fix it well I hope so but education is the key but try to talk to some of these azzhats about the "right" thing to do and see what the reaction to you is. That is why if we are not careful we will lose the ability to go there. I don't mean to be long winded but you cannot depend on the Goverment to fix all the issues it will never happen. We as Duners have to help with this and it takes volunteering and joining in this case FoDD and getting involved. I am sick of the fix the problems so I can ride but don't bother me with how you do it just do it and leave me alone. That isn't going to happen so GET INVOLVED!
  19. If you remember there was a post about a craigslist ad looking for a buggy driver to follow san Bernadino SO around. They must not have found a car so they applied and got a film permit and rode with the SO. This is Halloween normal activity which I am sad to say is getting worse. I did not go to comp hill at all this weekend for these and other reasons. My feeling is that they are show offs and if you watch it makes you part of the problem. My personal thoughts sorry if you do not agree.
  20. Here's a start;http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/barstow.html If you look at the Techanical review team info it has the members names and where they are from. We have only one from Nv. and the FoDD is also represented. This was set up at the begining before members were actually picked from resumes submitted to BLM. I doubt that the make up of the board as far as what is represented can be changed however I believe the members are on 3 year terms. Lot's of good info on their page.
  21. PM answered and forwarded to BLM with suggestion of using a water truck on big weekends. I don't think last weekend was typical due to the amount of smoke and lack of a breeze.
  22. I had some body work done on my M/H and trailer after they acted like the wrong ends of a magnet. Johnny Walker's paint and body guy is very good and is very anal about his work. I would recommend their store on Boulder near Flamingo. Was done right and in a very timely manner. Terry
  23. They will take cash and that was a BLM employee just for your info. But the goal is to get the BLM out of the pass selling business and having you buy your pass at a vendor is the wave of the future and we are trying to get everyone used to doing it that way. In the not to distant future the BLM will not be at the entry gate only the exit checking to see if you have one.
