Bert, congratulations! FYI my Freightliner FL 60 had a 1000lbs of steel plates in the back to make the ride better.

The truth of the matter is that these are all Goverment workers who work on weekdays not weekends. This invitation was made as a courtesy to the users. Do you want your fee demo money going to pay these Govt. employees O/T and per diem travel time. This is a courtesy to us not our requirements of them! They will have this meeting with or without us and they have graciouslly offerred to let us have some input, for that I am grateful for the invite. Notice was put out last week as to this meeting and it was discussed among TRT/FODD,DDR and DSD.com as to wether we wanted to put it out for general attendance. We want/need to come over at this meeting as concerned duners and caretakers of this special place. If we have a b*tch session the Fish and Wildlife Service who are not used to dealing with "typical" duners will have a bad impression. Not saying that the "typical" duner leaves a bad impression I am just saying that we want to put our best foot forward at this meeting and provide good info to these govt. folks that we care for Dumont and want to be involved in it's future.

Pete, thanks for putting this out there. I can't tell you how important this meeting is going to be. The BLM and other agencies want OUR imput on how we as a user group can help keep this from going any further than a conservation plan. I will be there and I urge all others who have a concern and Positive comments toward educating the public, how to eliminate out of bound intrusions and ideas to bring the dune user's together on this should be at this meeting. Please add it to your schedule and make an appearence. Terry

Desert Lake gun club on the way to the dry lake by Railroad pass has a great sporting clay range and skeet/trap range. I believe it is open to the public now. I would be willing to go out for some sporting clays . http://www.desertlakeshooting.com/

The guy that advised us of the lizard issue is probably wrong. I think he got his dates wrong and we should not get all worked up about it yet. If it does become a hard fact then we really need to get worked up but for right now let's see what happens in the next few days. terry

It was a very interesting meeting today. We received UNCONFIRMED I repeat UNCONFIRMED reports that Fish and wildlife may be ready to list the Fringe toed lizard as endangered or at least threatened. We are proposing that BLM contact F&W about a conservation plan instead. I will let you know when that happens. We also learned that due to the long distance to Dumont the 15 thousand tons of asphalt grindings we were supposed to get are going to razor road and zzyzx roads. We will have to wait till there is another resurfacing project closer. thanks to fuel costs etc! The heli port and the new fee machines should be in place by sept. 1 and ready for the new season. Note: the fee machines will only let you buy a weekly pass NO season passes! They must be bought at a vendor . We are weening the users off of getting their passes at the dunes and making it a way to stop BLM from fee collection of any sort within 2 years. The lease on the machines is for 2 years and after that they will be gone and you will have to have gotten your pass off site. The next meeting will be on SATURDAY SEPT. 6th. I hope you all attend because this is being done so all can attend. Terry

Yeah I still have hook ups with a cpl lenders. Let me know when you want to get ahold of them. That area has gotten better but the area right around Morrell park is still not good. If you look back nearer to Racetrack road it get's better.

So nobody else rolling to Barstow tomorrow from Vegas? Free coffee to go with!
-
Not so good i would try to stay on the other side of the tracks

Turns out that Western Maint. did not own the machines but was leasing them. They also have so many problems that it is going to be to costly to maintain them. We are looking at leasing new ones which include service contracts. there were several companies at the last meeting which presented offers and discussed their machines. I believe we are going to finalize on which one we want to go with.

It was actually owned by Andre Agassi's brother and I am sure the bank has "owned " it for years since he threw in the towel. Now I wonder how long it will sit as a burned out hulk?

Well since I can't make it out to the races the least you guys can do is stop by in the morning and get some great coffee from my shop! You have to pass right by it when going out from Henderson and I am only about a mile off the 15 if you are going out that way. Stop by at Saxbys Coffee 835 Seven Hills dr. #190 between St. Rose and Horizon Ridge. I will appreciate the business and you'll appreciate a great cup of coffee! Thanks, Then if you want to be a real bud stop back in the afternoon when I will be working and tell me how it was.
