  1. Bob, I agree with you that there is not enough signage and I know some was put up on the clean up sat. by the BLM. I further agree that rocks and signs might be a better way to go but i would have to see what "enviromental impact" moving native rocks would have. It's stupid tat we have to consider this but it is what the BLM has to go through also. We will make the suggestion to the Field Manager at the SSSS next week. I appreciate the idea!
  2. Bob the first part of the fencing project is actually going to be in the area between the south end of the dunes and the route to the little dunes. They want to keep riders off of that Mountain area between the two. This would keep that area preserved and let the paths which have been created time to recover. You would still have full access to the trail along the flats to get to the little dunes but no shortcuts over the hill. Terry
  3. I have no problem with them putting up the fence to protect that area. But I do have a problem with them putting up any other fence surronding the whole dune area. And that is what there ultimate plan is. it will take years to get the funding for it but what happens when the fence is all up and some little envrio group decides to file law suits and some green judge decides to close the area "temporarly". All they have to do is fence the road and we are done. I am against the use of tax dollars or fee money to enclose the Dumont Dune area.
  4. Let's see this guy has 1 post and the first thing he does is come on here and make insinuations. I beieve we have kept everyone informed about the last TRT meeting and what the reasons for removing the vendor from selling the passes. The BLM even went to the state BLM director Mike Poole and tried to get special dispensation from the increase having to go through the RACC with no luck. Yes this will be a bit of a pain but in the long run it will be easier on everyone and you will be getting more bang for your buck as the BLM will not be giving up as much in commission as we had to with the on site vendor. I believe this will work itself out before Thanksgiving. Thanks to the ASA for coming on over and stirring up the same old crap as usual. And you wonder why we don't want the ASA involved in Dumont. Might it be that we have a good relationship with Barstow BLM and would appreciate it if you would leave it alone instead of screwing it up like you have with Glamis BLM.
  5. Yeah Joe no problem getting it back here but you will have to wrestle it off of my truck onto yours. Maybe bring another able body with you? As I am old and don't feel like tackling any fuel barrels lately. :shocked2:
  6. I have made arrangements to pick up some Sunoco race fuel for $ 308.45 per barrel with no barrel deposit. If your interested let me know as soon as possible as I pick it up Friday evening. If you want a barrel I will pick it up for you but need the cash up front. This breaks down to $5.60 a gallon which is a hell of a good deal compared to what I have been paying. Seasons coming! :shocked2:
  7. Maybe we should start a fund to help the family? I am in for $20.00. Pete can we do that thru the site with paypal?
  8. Housing is like stocks and investments. They are only worth what there worth when you sell them. If my house was worth $650,000 2 years ago and now is only worth $550,000 what have I lost? If your not selling then it is worth what ever the market is. If your not moving then it doesn't matter what it's worth, even if the house is worth less than you owe or paid for it if you can afford/make the payments just hang in there and it will all shake out. I am older than most of you and i have seen the cycles before. How many of you remember being in line for gas and having to get into a fight cause someone tried to cut in after you had been waiting for an hour to get gas. Been there, Fuel costs are indeed up as are food and everything else as we pay $1.50 for 16 ozs. of water in a bottle it's our standard of living that has changed. The average income is up and things are still tight. Don't you remember the conversations your parents had about you wanting something and you got the old "we just can't afford that right now" conversation? Nothing is different, maybe I have to much faith and am definetly NOT blaming the President for higher fuel prices nor would I stretch to believe that he would have anything to do with a terroist attack that killed 3000 Americans. I am not blind but I see to much hatred amongst the ragheads for anybody else to blame.
  9. While I will admit that the ecomomy is not as strong as it was say a couple of years ago it is still stronger than most people think. I also am in the mortgage business and I have seen the decline in income and the demise of companies that were to liberal in their underwriting and loan programs. But the ultimate responability falls on the consumer. I can't tell you how many loans were done under the guise of "stated income" or No income type loans of people making $60K per year but wanting a $400,000 home. Was it stupidity on their part or greed? Most of it was greed pure and simple on the part of the builders, realtors, mortgage companies and the consumers who lied about their income and the industry looked the other way. Most people in "trouble" told the mortgage companies and builders that they were occuping the new house as a primary residence but their true intention was to flip it or rent it out and then sell it down the road. Guess what by the time most of there houses were finished the housing market train had left the station! I spent countless hours trying to talk people out of option arms and Interest only products only to have the customer flat out tell me that's what they wanted.I sleep well at night knowing I tried my best to do the right thing by each one of them. But greed won and they are stuck with properties they can't afford and can't rent for the payment. The truth of the matter is that only 5% of sub prime loans are in foreclosure. Most of the bank owned stuff is from investors and people who lied to try to make money. I believe the ecomomy is strong enough to support new and existing businesses. People who owned companies and made lots of $ during the good times may have gotten spoiled and tried to hold to high of a margin or stopped marketing and or many other reasons. If you were in business before the "mad rush" it is my opinion that you should be in business now just having to work harder and hoping that you stacked some cash away for the not so good times. For those looking for jobs are you only looking in your fields? Are you trying to expand out to other businesses that are doing well? You might have to work 2 part time jobs just like I did a long time ago. I am not lecturing here i am just speraking my mind.
  10. Ash is only in life part time!
  11. To add fuel to the fire this just the first request for fencing grants. They plan to increase it to 14 miles as the availability to get the grants comes available.
  12. I think I was at Dumont when that footage was done. I believe they (that group) were camped way down the finger to the south of the main road into the dunes. I was testing my car and watched for a while at comp. Car took a hell of a hit to be able to at least limp back to camp. Probably had to go clean out the interior after that one! I did notice the amount of head/upper body movement on that last jump as far as the driver. I don't think his belts were tight enough?
  13. Hmmm you mean the single pedal next to that clutch thingy?

    Some wisdom

Subject: Life explained I particularly appreciate the fact that on the first day God created the Dog. On the first day, God created the dog and said: "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years." The dog said: "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years, and I'll give you back the other ten?" So God agreed. On the second day, God created the monkey and said: "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span." The monkey said: "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?" And God agreed. On the third day, God created the cow and said: "You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years." The cow said: "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty, and I'll give back the other forty?" And God agreed again. On the fourth day, God created man and said: "Eat, sleep, play, marry, and enjoy your life For this, I'll give you twenty years." But man said: "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back? That makes eighty, okay?" "Okay," said God, "You asked for it." So that is why the first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the grand-children. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone. Life has now been explained to you...
  15. See how nice that wind in your hair feels? I get it every time
  16. In the past when Dumont has not had as many people using it the law was basically just not enforced. It has been in place forever. Now because of the large amount of useage it is being brought to the forefront. No body wants their kids playing in the dirt that you left soaking the day before with your grey water which contains food particles, dirty soapy water, dead skin cells, possiblly urine from peeing in the shower etc. I am not happy about it either as I have always let my grey water leak out. However I will not do that anymore out of respect for other campers. It's not a really big deal more of a common courtesy like picking up after your dog instead of kicking sand over it.
  17. It has just been widened. If you change the way the water crosses you would have had to cut or remove the existing crossing and then dig out the area for culverts. That is expensive and with the debris that can flow down the river and idiots who would put large rocks in the culverts, :whacky101: it was just widened. I also think we would have gotten into enviromental issues (studies, permits BS etc) had we done the culvert.
  18. I was thinking of making a dune trip and squeeze as many people into trucks and drive to Barstow and return to the dunes for an afternoon and evening ride and Sunday rides. By doing so you may be able to deduct your expenses for the entire trip. Please consult your tax advisor on this as I am not a tax proffessional and do not give legal or tax advice
  19. Richard I am glad to see that you have such a positive attitude. As a matter of fact I sat next to the head LEO during this meeting and as soon as the rules commettee allows this rule change it will be enforced. As far as grey water it has been allowed in the past for basin type water dumping but it has been abused to the point of dumping grey water from motorhomes etc. The high concentration of people in one area makes it a health hazard and it will not be allowed anymore. If your tent camping and wash the dishes in a bucket, tray whatever then there is no problem with disposing of that water on the ground.
  20. I will let you know tomorrow evening for sure. But it may be about dumpsters in Tecopa or the usual suggestion that someone makes about putting them at the dunes which ain't gonna happen.
