Saturday can't come fast enough for me. I have my 20 year high school reunion that night which I am looking forward to. Then sunday morning we head to Vegas for a day and stay at Sams Town. Monday thru Friday we are on Lake Mead baby! Me and the family along with Tony and his family are renting a 50 foot houseboat. 2 years ago we did the same thing and had a blast. This time we are bringing along one of those jet-ski boats that seat 5 people. And I am borrowing my father in laws 2-seat ski that is supercharged.

We are launching out of Temple Bar Marina in Arizona. We did Callville Bay last time and headed up stream. Temple Bar is where we left off last time so we figured we might as well pick up where we left off.

:dunno: Tim -

Just got off the water an hour ago, and it's getting cooler by the day, high was 84 today and water was at 78, down from 81 last week. Lake level is up by 8 inches from last week too....Have fun, you'll like Temple Bar big time, Sandy Point is a great place to tie-off on the house boat and run up to the Grand Canyon entrance with the jet ski's. The place should be vacant this time of year up there. Have fun be safe......

Mike-

How do I find Sandy Point from Temple Bar?

Tim -

36° 6'48.62"N

114° 6'4.22"W

Go to Google Earth type in these Coordinates and it will take you to Sandy Point. The house boat people will also be able to give you a map of it as well. So as your leaving the Temple Bar Marina, you want to turn right going up stream. The best spots used to be on the far side of Sandy Point, but with the water levels it could have changed. Your only about 20 minutes via Jet Ski or Boat from Temple Bar, but it will take you a few hours in the house boat to get there. Let me know if you need any additional info.

Does anyone know how to get to the Skywalk on the indian reservation? It doesn't seem to far from Temple Bar but I can't locate it on mapquest.

Tim -

On the West Rim of the Canyon, and its a big time drive from Temple Bar. We went right after it opened, and it's not worth the effort, the Indians got this thing all wrapped up, and it will basicly cost $25 to get into the reservation, $20 for parking, and then I belive its $25 per to get on the sky walk. "Which oh by the way - no cameras, or videos" Here a WEB-SITE that we found after we went.....pretty much as it is.

the wife and i went.. there was something about spending 50 bucks to walk on a concret sidewalk that goes out over a cliff.. and not to be able to take pictures.. EFF THAT!! They charged you per pop per picture as well if they took them for you..

It is one helluva drive as well... hour and a half 2 hours.. a big chunk of it dirt road. I wouldnt waste my time on it again.. Granted i had a free pass going in but if i were paying.. i would just use the 100+ bucks your about to drop on more beer and hookers..

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I had a blast on my vacation!!! My reunion was awsome. Met some friends I haven't seen since we left High School. Even my Varsity Baseball Coach was there... Drank all night and just laughed with good friends.

Sunday we hit the road for Vegas. Got to Sams Town and got settled in our rooms. Let the kids watch the Coyote/water show there then we headed for downtown vegas to see the Fremont Street Experience. Had dinner at Golden Nugget and I met up with Nick after dinner. Me tony and nick bounced around the casinos for a while, also watched these 4 drunk mexican guys pass out on the ground! Everyone was filming them and taking pictures with their camera phones. Then we headed back to Sams Town and continued to lose money at the tables. :DDRrocks:

Said goodbye to Nick (thanks for the ride and hanging out with us!!) and went to bed.

Got up Monday and had breakfast the headed over to Temple Bar. The Hoover dam is CRAZY right now with all the construction and the vehicle inspections. They almost didn't let us cross with all the fuel we had on the boat (25 gallons). I noticed the guards they have there are the same company that we use to kick back the Illegals to Mexico. I told the guy who I worked for and he looked at me shook my hand and said "have a great vacation!"

Got to the marina and checked in, only to be told it's too windy and we had to stay at the dock for the night! :hello: We were PISSED! I took the jet-ski out to see just how bad the water was. It was pretty bad. 4 foot waves almost knocked me off the ski. Next morning the water was like glass. We headed upstream for Sandy Point and beached the houseboat there for 2 days. There was nobody on the water but us. We had the entire place to ourselfs the first day, then we saw a few locals out fishing the 2nd day. Had a blast on the See-Do and jet-ski. I put 215 miles on my father-in-laws jet ski in 4 days.

The weather was great. mid 80's and the water was a bit chilly when you first touced it but nice when you got in it. My kids never left the water and loved riding the jetski with me. Tony brought a inflatable raft we pull behind the boat and jetski. That thing was cool. It had stablizer wings and you can get it 90 degrees with the water and stay on it.

Friday came and we headed in to check the houseboat back in. We had an issue with the 12 volt batteries going dead at night so we had to run the generator to keep the sensors from beeping all night. The manager was real cool and gave us a 50 gallon gas credit for the troubles. We only used 75 gallons all trip so we paid for 25 gallons.

Headed back to Vegas and took the Ethel M chocolate factory tour. Woo Hoo 5 minutes later we were done! Bought some M&M's and left for stateline. Checked in at Buffalo Bills and hung out till the girls went to bed. Me and tony hit the tables again. I couldn't catch a break on 3 card poker to save my life. I found a blackjack table with some good people that knew how to have fun and win. At one point I was down to my final $35 bucks that I brought for gambling. I turned that into $600 in a few hours! 3:30 in the morning rolled around so I had to get some sleep. Back up a 7am we got ready and went to breakfast. Wife wanted to check out the mall at Terribles so we went over there. I headed out back to check out the sand drags. I didn't go in but walked around and looked at the cars outside the fenced area. We went back to our hotel to ride the rides before heading for home. Took the family on the log ride and got soaked. My girls rode the frog hopper ride. Me and Tony did the roller coaster.

Checked out and made the long drive home. It was a blast and can't wait to do it all again. Here are the pictures I took. Tony still hasn't downloaded his yet.
