  1. I had a great week at Dumont. We headed out Sunday afternoon, so we could spend Mike's birthday out there and get a couple of days riding in before the work begins. Not much beats watching the sun go down at the North Pole. Boy was it rough out there even before everyone showed up. I was getting beat up in those big wet ruts, but still had fun. I certainly didn't miss riding after two days of roughness. It was very busy on Vendor Row, busiest on Black Friday, we even had some blow out specials. Missed Grandpa's Ice Cream Shop, wonder what happened to them The sunsets were spectacular and having snow in the hills made a beautiful view. We did a little bit of camp hopping and a trip to comp on Saturday night. Good times with everyone Some pics from the weekend....

  4. Yeah the guy who got ejected wasn't wearing his seat belt and the other guy I'm not sure, all I know is he ejected himself. My buddy was the one who went and for the rangers when you were yelling down comp.

  5. If I were to buy a weekly pass from the Monday before Thanksgiving to the wednesday before thanksgiving, would you have to pay the holiday rate?

  6. Right on. It's always good to see a dune run from a different view. I always have mine running but it doesn't get much when I'm leading which is almost every time. This trip I pointed it backwards and got some great stuff like when we flopped over comp.

  8. Less crowd than past years, but still a decent turnout. I think the only major accident that was reported was the one Wed night. The waterpumpers ran the hill climbs on Saturday. Weather was epic. Dunes were tore up real good but the car took them pretty well. Glad I left the bike at home. Vendor row was a good turnout I thought. I'll post up more later. I took some pics.

  9. Exactly what Joe said. Only had one buggy in our camp so for me it was kinda slow running with quads behind me, but today it was myself and s RZR 1000 and it was a great run! Still tore up but was able to get a great run in regardless as no one was in the dunes!! But still a day at Dumont beats a day at home regardless.

  11. My wife lost the "large" diamond off her ring. She spent the next several hours tracing her steps and we spent a lot of time walking around with our heads bowed down scanning the sand. She even rode her quad along her old tracks real slow while leaning over, way over, the handlebars scanning the sand. She again thought about all she did that day and went back to an area in camp where she took her gloves off. (Why she wore riding gloves over that ring is beyond me) She sat there in the sand moving sand back and forth looking for a glint of the priceless stone. Her persistence paid off as she did find the rock in what all in camp thought was gone. I had written the rock off hours before and she knew I was pissed that she even wore her ring while riding. The almost impossible find did not come without cost. Having the setting in the ring fixed for a more secure hold on the rock and buying special insurance against loss made that trip a "little" more expensive than it should have. So you can still say I still "lost" something at Dumont.

  13. So not to stir the pot but when exactly would you like the rangers to be on scene for a holiday? I believe they have their people in place for the dates set aside for the holiday passes. But if you want to have a ranger there on Wed. well why not Monday or Tuesday? I am saying it's an OHV riding area that is unmanned except for 5 weekends per year. Other wise you have a patrol officer that travels in and out during his regular shifts. We have become dependent upon them being there whenever we want them but we don't want them there if they are going to write you a ticket for a violation or if your DUI etc. etc. You can't have it all folks! I know in 1975 I rolled my Jeep there in October and luckily my girlfriend and I were a little bruised and battered but we had to stop by the Tecopa store and use a pay phone to call the report in for my insurance purposes. Be prepared to take care of one another just like Steve did. With the cut backs that our government has put us into we are just not going to see the kind of presence there used to be. I might suggest investing in a good first aid kit and maybe a couple of classes to learn what to do with it when something happens. It is beginning to look like the good old days the more time passes on. Just my 2 cents worth. If anybody finds a beginning first aid class and wants to attend I would be glad to go too. Some thing I have always had an interest in and have used what little knowledge I have a few times. I hope I have helped and not hurt in those cases. After reading about the recent wreck and fire in Glamis recently I would also like to suggest at least every SXS and sand car have a fire ext. and also a space blanket to protect an injured person from weather and keep them from going into shock. 14. You're the best president ever Pete! If only our other one could address the concerns of the little people as eloquently as you did. And as far as I can tell nothing that you spoke was a lie. Thanks for the answers. I was more or less prodding and reminding that a little swag goes a long way at the clean-up. I wasn't aware of the conflict with the other site. I still display my red OE DDR sticker in the back window of my F-350. Didn't know bout the AMR deal either, sorry that deal fell through. Has it really been years ago? Wow time is cruising on by. I do remember the race as it was right here at the edge of base. And in an area that the Corps is fixing to take possession of. King of the Hammers is coming down to it's last couple of events here in Johnson Valley it's looking like. Didn't know it affected what we do at Dumont. Too bad, they were lots of fun. Thanks for addressing my thoughts and keep up the good work.
