  1. agreed, but i'm hindered by the fact that i've been working on nuthin' but vw's for the last 30 years. high rpm's the 009 will work ok, but not enuff advance for off-roading where you don't want a flat spot on acceleration coming off of low rpm's. driveability is MUCH better with vacuum advance...especially with the dual pull distributor.....much worse if you have a 1600 with aftermarket exhaust...not enuff backpressure. sounds like that's what he's probly running. people have many reasons for running the 009....mainly they are cheap and not much to go wrong with them, but performance will suffer in my opinion.....BTW...the CORRECT points for a 009 distributor will have a white stripe on that black wire designating higher spring tension to avoid "floating" at high rpm's. coupla tricks if you ARE off-roading it.....keep the plastic disc that it comes with inside....helps keep out the sand/dust.....also there are rpm limiter rotors available in 5850 6500 7200rpm's.(those are the ones that come to mind, there's more) for around 20 bucks you can limit the rpm's...pick your rotor and just keep yer foot planted to the floor when taking those hills. mite help save that motor.
  2. shiaaat! swear tuh gawwddd you took the words right outa my mouth....and if i had any sense i wouldn't correct you on the "2" minutes thing....but it was 3 minutes plus the time it took to read this thread and reply.....oh sheesh. i'm gonna go drink a gallon of turpentine and p*ss on a brushfire!
  3. my life has been MUCH better since i met spell chick....got married valentines day and finally getting some dune trips in. hope to get to coral pink this summer and going to jellystone for a honeymoon.......BTW andydew.....next time tell her to hold those birth-control pills between the knees....oops, almost forgot the reason for this post....work is going ...ok....still payin' the bills.
  4. rolled in to the D about 3pm friday with the family. hardly got out of the moho and find out my friends sandrail was sittin' on comp with 2 flat tires after rolling over( didn't i just see this movie a couple trips ago?). anyways an hour of my life later and he's mobile again and just a couple broken flags. got a good run one end to the other in the jeep before dark and the wind blew all night fri. sat morning and the dunes were awesome! i'm sittin on top of the high hill near comp and somebody tells me there's a longtravel stuck in the bowl above comp. so i go try to pull him back to camp.he had been there since 10 fri nite! after a couple tries i realize his trans is blown and keeps getting stuck, so the axles gotta come off. no tools, bak to camp to borrow an 11 mm 12point socket. on the way to camp i see long-travel had rolled on back side of comp(heard the guys son had broken arm and headed to hospital.) axles off and finally moving. get stuck in small bowl and now he's really screwed. along comes a rhino that we hook up to jeep and it's enuff to get him out of bowl and with lots of tow straps borrowed we get over the last lip and head back to camp. hafta admit i aired down to 14lbs on fri afternoon and by midday sat i'm at 17lbs because of the heat and that was 5lbs too much(head bowed, i know better). many thanks to the rhino guy (service manager at sunland ford in victorville i think he said). there's 4 hours of my life i'll never get back!.....anyhoo, back to duning.....another sandrail upside down on comp....saw 4 rollovers this weekend. went for a run with wades subaru sanrail(NICE!). then led a run in the windblown dunes late afternoon with the jeep that was pretty hairy with all that sand blowin 'round. headed home after dark. the worst day duning is better than the best day workin'!
  5. my family should be at b/r 6 by 2 today leaving early sunday....wades new des dynamix blue and yellow longtravel will be there too along with others. jeepin it.
  6. looks like i get a trip with the rubicon this weekend and maybe a bombuhdeer. probly camp with wade at b/r 6 or gramma at the entrance right as you get on top....just across the road from the ranger station. my first kitchen pass since getting married.
  7. a couple rides wit some bombuhdeers would be fun. we usually camp around c-8 on the grid...i'm thinkin b/r 6? wade will roll in tomorrow with his new des dynamics dual sport blue/yellow buggy. i was hoping to camp with the freak, but i don't think i wanna chance gettin stuck, so stuck with wade(a drive in an LS-7 buggy couldn't be so bad could it?. hope to see yuh there....issb...if you want to call me needing a bike or sumthin hauled back to phelan look up my #. randy's european auto, hesperia
  8. looks like i go friday afternoon and come back sunday afternoon to hesperia. whatcha need? should have room in the trailer for a bike? if need be. be bringin' my new wife and our 4 kids(6y/o boy and girl...8 and 9y/o boy and girl.)...thinkin' i mite try and camp with the freak this time....couple killer rides on the bombuhdeer sounds like a real rippuh, dunefreak. hey aceisback....you got kids dontcha?

i agree. the wide angle i have requires you to be very close to the suject or you see it very small. fun, but i hear the new hi-def ones have better pics. there was a thread here a while back about this if you want to dig it up.
  10. maybe there IS a god after all!....dad probly should have gotten him a bottle of whiskey with that car instead of the droid. ...as for me, i had a couple kids working for me recently. one of them every time i needed help with something i turned around and there he was texting someone....guess which kid i called NEXT time i needed a helper.
  11. there was a thread here on that chit a few months ago...wasn't there? think i'll go make me another lard sandwich.
  12. unlikely that it's internal if it's first and third.....odds are it's a linkage problem....can you loosen the lock bolt on the shift shaft coming out of trans, pull shift linkage forward, then retighten? many linkages have predetermined holes that line up only one way....you may have to look at other places in your linkage to acomplish this.....BTW....who's ned?
  13. our club has a hammer trails event in oct or sept every year and i trailbossed for fissure mountain at the 2009 event. i haven't heard a word about any "all clear, everythings ok" on this so i doubt what you say is true....anyone wanting to check this link can see for themselves http://savejohnsonvalley.org/ i'm pretty sure i would have heard something but i admittedly am not keeping close tabs on it....i enjoy rock-crawlin', but not THAT serious about it....all i'm sayin' is it was lookin pretty bleak when i attended a BLM meeting a few months ago.
  14. better enjoy it while you can. chuck shaner and a bunch of other victor valley 4 wheelers built those trails and now the gubmint is trying to close it off to expand the marine? base. some of the toughest rock crawlin' in the country.....then when king of hammers is done with it we gotta go out and fix all those trails they spit all those rocks out of with their 42 inch tires.
  15. was that near the superbowl?....sounds like a girl i helped out with dislocated hip on a banshee back around then....only i didn't find her unconcious when i arrived first on scene....seem to remember riding the banshee to the top of the hill(ONLY time i ever rode a banshee in my life) to draw attention to her family hoping they would see it and maybe i sent my13y/o son to fetch family at camp. i remember very little about that day, and i've been on at least a couple dozen extractions at the D. i was probly riding a bombardier, but i've owned about every bike made up until 06, so i coulda been on anything. ...that's a long time ago to remember ANYTHING....what color was the banshee? and color of riding gear? the girl i helped seemed as memory serves me to be pretty well set up with bike and gear like she had been riding awhile. i remember a guy a couple years ago that i helped off of the top of comp hill early one morning before ANYONE was up....getting a paramedic....getting don, the camp host with backboard/calling ambulance....even getting the guy's buddie's truck/trailer unstuck from the sandy entrance to comp hill so he could follow him to hospital. left my card with him and asked him to let me know how he was(had broken ribs and internal injuries according to the paramedic/firefighter i retrieved) ....never heard a word.......sorry for the off topic rant here, but sometimes you wonder if it's worth it to help others out there when you don't hear a single word of thanks for a BUNCH of your day's riding time gone down the tubes. oh, hell i ain't gonna stop doing it so whats the point wondering! nice that yer lookin for them now to say thanks....whether it was us or not, good luck!
  16. Well, my wife-to-be was busy on saturday so I decided to make a day trip to the D. As i'm leaving she says "better ride safe, you got a wedding to go to sunday". ......sheesh,"i got more time in the dunes than you got on the sh*tter"...don't worry!.....entrance road being graded as i arrived around 1130 am.sweeeet. so as i arrive my buddy wade is gettin ready to go for a putt in his new $100k desert dynamics dual sport buggy "hop in" he says. so we head for the north pole. that ls7 motor moves that thing pretty good and what a plush ride! out in the dunes he turns it over to me. I'm kinda nervous about driving somebodies brand new sandrail that is worth more than the lives of my whole family but here goes nuthin(all the while remembering my wife to be's prophetic words). SWEETNESSSSSS what a nice riding car it is! got an hour or so of tearin' up the dunes under my belt and now i'm rejuvenated til i can get mine up and running again. back to camp and unload the bombbuhzeer and off to hook up with a couple friends on a FAST ride to the north pole. holdin' on for dear life havent been on the bike much in the last year or so, and it's startin' to show..... came off the top of a BIG dune in 4th gear near th bottom and didn't see that big woop at the bottom til late. bounced me off that seat about 3 feet .....close one....better slow down a little(i got a weddin' to make tomorrow!)......but wait a minute....i'm fallin' behind....awww eff it! I'm a man ain't i! gas this muffin hugger! we make it to north pole no further mishaps.....then back to camp....man oh man those dunes are tore up from the floor up! then it's off to the meet-n-greet....on the way i'm at the top of comp riding the ridge and i see this bike pop over the hill and at the last few seconds we have that moment of indecision and we hit each other and he takes a spill and i'm sittin with a killed engine on a wicked sidehill situation. as i'm gettin' off to see if the other guy is ok, not 6 feet from me two other motorcycles hit each other and end up on the ground. we ask each other if we are ok and not too much damnage(just a rash on one rear wheel)so off we go again. at the m&g i see a few old friends and have a nice talk with the dune monkie(she was more excited about the wedding than i was.....but don't tell my wife that!)....by the last ride it was so torn up out there i just don't know how the h*ll those peeps that weren't on bombuhdeers were able to stay on their bikes!(now that i think about it, by then the dunes were EMPTY compared to mid-day when you couldn't seem to get going without dodging another group).....back to camp and on the trailer head for home......but no, there's a fool tried to make a u-turn with a 40 foot motorhome and trailer jack-knifed and his hitch is hopelessly sitting on the ground with rear tires spinning near the entrance road....someone tried pulling him backwards via the trailer....but helen keller coulda seen that wasn't gonna git-r-done.....luckily the guy had onboard jacks so lifted back wheels, shoved some sand under and back in business....NOT....hitch still touching the pavement.....and now a car full of girls are stuck so NOBODY gets by....so i hook up a strap and jerk them out.....i've had enough of this....i got a wedding to git to....so off i go.....the guy in the moho had lots of help so i didn't feel to bad deserting him. many thanks to dunemonkie and jackster and all the others i can't think of for the best wishes on my wedding day.....i'm looking forward to spring break spending a few days at THE ddr camp(i know, i know) so youse guys can meet my new wife(she brings 3 quads to the mairrage!)
  17. i can think of one VERY serious hairpin that you better take real slow and probly be in oncoming lane for a ways towing a 22 footer. but i'm sure it could be done if careful. big pine flat would be my favorite place as a base camp
  18. tracks topic has been covered many times here, but i don't think it can be talked about enuff. a lot of people don't believe in the electric chair, but if i'm ever elected king, the first thing i will do is set up electric BLEACHERS to deal with those responsible for those deep tracks that have hurt so many. best wishes for your friend.
  19. ddr market-ticker.denninger.net patrick.net careful....only go there if you REALLY want to know how things are.
  20. time for the pitchforks to come out for these muffin huggers!

  22. why don'tcha try that again after a good nights sleep...... give him the benefit of the doubt anyone?
  23. ohhhh daaaaammmn cheesey. just saw on the business channel fed-ex is merging with ups.....the new company is gonna be called fed-up......i'm thinkin' petes freudian slip was showing!
