  1. ha! i didnt see that before i posted the pic. Looks like a mutant shift lever... since this is my first complete teardown on one of these badboys, i need a little help. answer might be obvious but, whats the best way to remove rear axle assembly. I have it down to the sprocket and brake drum. are those just pressed on? i tried prying them a little but not really budging. maybe rusted on, but i dont want to screw it up.
  2. Since i wasnt able to go to the regatta, i decided to start the teardown on my '82. A few issues I hadnt counted on came up. #1 Crack at exhaust bolt hole and broken flange. Gonna need a new head. Dont know if i am going with a 88 kit yet. might just go with a used head. Check your PMs Cole. #2 Bent frame. gonna need to straighten as the fender hits the head when turning. also means no more then right into the side of a moho. more rust than i thought, but no big deal. nothing some sandblasting and PC cant take care of. Might need a new shifter too, the quick fix we did aint too pretty

  4. F%$#!!!! Good news: I got a promotion! Bad News: Work this weekend. Damn, had a line on a running bike, since i didnt finish my '82, and had the trailer all ready to go! I was looking forward to meeting some people from the site finally. Ive already put in the vacation request for next year. Looking forward to the pictures.
  5. jumped on the verizon bandwagon years ago. great reception at the D
  6. Congrats! Just in time to inherit all those 70's....
  7. Not entirely true. Finance Managers have no incentive to charge "the highest interest he can get away with". It's true that certain loans allow for a mark up and profit on interest rate, but it is probably one of the most closely regulated areas of profit in a dealership. Meaning a dealership is limited to how much they can make or how high the rate will be. Im not as familiar with motorcycle loans, but if I understand correctly, those special low payments and rates are on a revolving credit loan, like a credit card which is why the rate and payments change in the middle of it. I think this is just an example of chitty customer service and I agree that a warning should be posted about them, if thats how they are gonna treat a paying customer.
  8. verizon blackberry as modem by #3
  9. just picked up from radiator shop with lining done to it. did a nice job, but in order to flush it, this fugger drilled a hole underneath and soldered it closed with a penny...
  10. this is it as of today. went through another round of degreasing before total teardown for powdercoat. <--- gotta get it looking like that soon...
  11. had the same problem with mine. i just followed the directions on the ipod tech support website. pretty easy solution if i remember correctly
  12. Different tip: After tips from a variety of sites, including this one, I did the muriatic acid to clean up the majority of the rust inside the tank. Flushed it with gas, but still had a little. Went back and used CLR with some nuts and washers, shook the sh*t out of it, and re-flushed with gas. Taking to a radiator shop next to do treatment. Looks new inside. A little muriatic acid got on the paint and its chipping so careful if you want to keep original paint. Tried compressed air to take out dents on the side from the forks. one came out, but the other is stubborn. I like the sterdy exhaust, but the cobra is cheaper. any feedback on the cobra exhaust?

  14. <<----- Just got big motivation to finish the 70. Count me in.
  15. sounds like a sweet idea. maybe i can finally meet some peeps right before we all go wheelie up comp on our 70's!!
  16. you havent ridden a 70 until a bump comes out of nowhere which makes the tank come up and smack you in the nads, and you still have a 20 minute ride back to camp...
  17. sweet! one step closer to a Dumont Regatta...
  18. great link! thanks i can see how this is gonna get expensive. its easy to get obsessed with these things
  19. This Muriatic Acid is some strong chit. This is the tank after just pouring some in. All I did to the cap was wipe it off with a paper towel that had some acid on it. Thanks for all the help... I'll keep posting progress... With air pressure for the dents, is that something I can do with a regular compressor, or is that something I should take and have done? I was thinking of creaming the inside, but I heard that radiator places have a treatment they can do pretty cheap. Any of you guys know about it?
  20. ^^^^^ That is a nice set up right there.
  21. ebay. can't say anything about the quality yet, but it seems like a good kit
  22. We shouldnt jump to conclusions. Maybe he flipped the axle on the toy hauler before he decided to go with the pre-runner suspension on the tow rig, and since he's off road, he unhooked the weight distribution hitch to prevent damage. maybe. :porn:
  23. Ok, sounds like i can save it. Thanks for the links, very helpful. Stay posted, this is my first restoration so I will need all the help I can get. What about the dent? Any ideas? Thanks. But I think the tank might be ok. Wouldnt mind an OG or OG-style all black seat cover if you bump into one. I will PM you my cell so I can ship u out some dough if you find it. Did you dilute it? I have some of that stuff, I used it to clean up some brickwork, but even at like 15:1 it was strong.
  24. So my first bike was an ATC70 back in like '86 (the bike is an 81 or 82 i think). Dad never sold it. Sat in the back of the shed for at least 15 years. I started restoring a while back, but Im moving very slowly with it. Anyway, Im trying to tackle the tank and Im not sure it can be saved. Any suggestions on getting the rust out? If the rust can come out, Im gonna need to get the dent out and find a decal kit... What about the carb? I bought the rebuild kit in the pic before I opened up the carb, but now Im not sure that it can be saved either. I already cleared all the passages and started to clean up the bowl with a dremel but I dont want to waste time on it. What you guys think? Am I ?
