  1. That's why God made motorcycle and ski instructors.....if the wife aren't really isn't in to it why should I find out the hard way. I of course only learned this after finding out the hard way. Eli
  2. Three things you NEVER want to do: Try to teach the wife to ride a motorcycle. Try to teach the wife to ski. Try to teach the wife to ride quads at the dunes. I thought about an Outlander Max too until she said what about the dog? Didn't hear a thing out of her till I didn't ty the dog in and he got a vet bill for getting a burn where no male should but that's a another story. Eli
  3. Found them in Henderson. Owner seems like a great guy. They are a ways from me but likely worth the drive. Now the next problem may not be what's sitting in the driveway but talking myself out of what was sitting in their lot Thanks Eli
  4. Hey Pete, Did they move? The phone book shows them on North Las Vegas Blvd. Eli
  5. Picture doesn't show it well but the axle is a square tube below the spindle. A short piece of tube seen below the spindle connects it the axle. It's all welded together. I think I'll need the hub too and haven't had much luck searching for parts. It's a 88 DICO. Eli
  6. Well had the wheel bearings repacked 2 months ago and this is what happened on my way back from Utah. Thank goodness the wheel fell off at slow speed and not coming down the 8% grade into Cedar City. Now what do I do? The spindle looks bent and I don't think I'll be taking it back to guy that repacked the bearings. If it's bent does that mean a new axle? Seems whatever was left of the bearing rattled around in there for a while. Eli
  7. Just got the news today:( Mine failed a leak down test at 90 hours and needs a new top end even after daily air filter cleaning. Make sure you clean the filter and look for dust in the thottlebody everyday! The stock air cleaner was replaced after less than 10 hours with a UNI old style 8503. Still sold as a Sportsman filter last time I looked. I didn't like the new 8513's because they don't use a hose clamp and if the clamps on the airbox cover fail you lose the air filter. I changed to the Donaldson based airbox because although the UNI helped alot I still saw a little dust in the thottlebody and the hose clamps are a pain in the tail to get to. After changing to a Donaldson there was never any dust in the thottlebody and they are heck of a lot easlier to change/clean. Apparently the damage had already been done. Don't mean to be down on your new purchase but if you aren't pro-active about the fact RZR's suck dust you'll you will be looking at an expensive top end. Make the dealer do a leak down test before it's out of warrenty. Eli
  8. First thing you do is change the airbox and filter. I like the Donaldson filters. Boxes made by BTI and sold by Dragonfire and Holtz. UTM?? has a cheaper verision. Change it back for warrenty work not that Polaris is gonna honor it anyway. God help you if you bought it from Rip Off Now. Eli Posted from the trails and lava rock crawling wilds of Utah. Thank God for my Walker Evans shocks!
  9. Great steaks....go to Whole Foods but bring your wallet they aren't cheap. All the chain stores are pretty bad. I won't pay those kind of prices to eat something that should be in the hamburger. Sam's Club isn't bad with a decent prices if you shop carefully and know what you are looking for. It's getting harder to find decent beef. I can't afford to try the expensive steak houses but haven't found much I thought belonged outside of McDonalds when eating out lately. Eli
  10. Didn't make it over Wheelers. Headed North in search of an injured motorcycle rider instead. He turned up in Indian Springs. That's much better than a night hurt in the desert. Weather was great. Gonna have to have try this again. Eli
  11. After four stops to find the right bolts it looks like the RZR will be back together and will need a test run. I'm planning to leave Cold Creek at dusk (8:00pm) for a night ride. Join me if you like. Eli
  12. IMHO they just want to study a lizard because they haven't managed to get the Amaragosa Vole (a sort of rat) declared endangered.....yet. Eli
  13. You ain't even close to old....yet. Fine is another matter....they only age good scotch for 12 years. Remember when you wondered if they were gonna card you for drinking? That's young. Old is when they ask if you are a senior and you wonder if they are gonna card ya before they give ya the discount. That's :kitty: Eli
  14. But then that would require many more years of critter study trying to find an endangered one. Eli
  15. Not exactly.....they will be more than happy to ban OHV use in an area while they "study!" As far as GPSing the bountry. It's not that simple. The Desert Protection Act which started all this was defined with LARGE, THICK magic markers on large scale maps. The BLM doesn't know EXACTLY where the boundries are and neither does anybody else. When defined by words like "50' EAST of the Tonopah & Tidewater railroad grade" the BLM either ignores them or has found another reason to close areas WEST of the grade. Seen any closed signs WEST of the grade around Dumont? This isn't about any animal or staying within the boundries. This is about the Amaragosa River and Sperry Wash. The greenies know that. Apparently most duners don't. If there is an endangered critter that lives in, eats plants by or heads toward the river because that's where the water is or simply declare it a scenic river.......and all the crossings will be closed. INCLUDING THE ONE YOU USE TO GET TO THE DUNES I don't see any of those user fees being used to build a bridge. Eli
  16. I had AHS when I got a hidden water leak the plumber said I had a slab leak before he even got in the door. I asked him how he knew because he hadn't done jack to check it out. He said he had 25 years experience and knew these things. When I checked he had neither business or a contractors number. It turned out to be the leak in the front yard between the meter and the house. I rented a trencher put in copper pipe instead of the cheap plastic tubing they used in this area. Problem solved without going to a hotel for a week like this guy wanted. BTW the wife normally plumbs at our house cause I break more than I fix but anything is better than AHS. Never saw a dime from me again Eli
  17. I don't know...... Got an email today from a friend leaving for a 3,000 to 4,000 mile road trip next week. He thinks 4.50 a gallon fuel will be soon be known as the "good ole days" so he's going while he can. Eli
  18. Ya think... Is this the same DMV that would not let me put a fuel injected 350 crate engine in my FJ40 even though it would burn cleaner because it never came with a V8 and pays a guy to check their database for FJ40's with V8's? Is this the same DMV that made me get insurance on my FJ40 when I flat-towed it to the wrench to put the engine in? In other words a motor vehicle without a motor. Yes tow trucks are different I should have paid one of them?????? Is this the same DMV that is charging me $500 because I renewed the insurance policy 10 days late on two motorcycles that never left the garage? Insurance is less than $100 bucks for both and so are the plates. Is this the same DMV that hasn't figured out that getting cited for $250 bucks once a year is cheaper than buying insurance for those piles of crap running around without insurance. Show me a cheap piece of land in AZ and I'll plate all nine motor vehicles I own there. But risk my UTV to drive it on the street? You don't think it will be impounded while you fight? How much you gonna spend on the lawer? Eli
  19. Las Vegas Gun Club up by Floyd Lamb normally has a couple of skeet ranges open. Shooting trap has likely ruined me for life but I was dropping high 1 when I started shooting trap so maybe there wasn't much to ruin. Kind of warm but I'll shoot with ya at least until I see a 100 straight patch on your vest. Eli
  20. I told you guys I got a new gadget. I tested it in the mountians 50 miles from anywhere this weekend. The closest place was Goldfield which barely makes it as anywhere. Didn't see another vehicle around camp all weekend. It's got four modes and sends email or text messages to your contacts unless it's a emergency. I'm OK. I need help from friends. I'm in deep do...send rescue. And an optional tracking mode. I didn't buy. $150 bucks and $100 bucks a year. About the same as sat radio. Priceless because the wife knew I was OK. Don't know about duners with cell service but explorers and hunters ought to consider one. http://findmespot.com/Home.aspx Eli
  21. I think the key words here are planning and ability. Rescues were effectively performed long before GPS's where available. Flares and strobes aren't a matter of funding. They are a matter of lack of planing. One of the laws of rescue is the farther away you are, the greater the chance of a technical failure. So KISS. I love all my gadgets and my GPS is always with me. Dumont has better cell service that I would prefer but what happens where I don't have any service? Actually I have a new gadget for that and compared to the stuff I've spent on the RZR it's not about funding....it's about pre-planning. The LEO covering the girl with her jacket might be great TV but ....please.....don't tell me nobody's got a first aid kit with a space blanket???? How many years those been around and how much room do they take? Remember the LEO walking up the ridge....can anybody say gas fire up there? All the injuries on the show required professionals and extensive rescue but there's in nothing wrong in being prepared to help ourselves and others. Eli
  22. I carry on the RZR day/night distress flares. Got a flare on one end and orange smoke on the other. Got to be room in those LEO ATV rear bags for more than a couble of them. I don't blame those on bikes and quads for not carrying much but those with farm equipment and buggies might consider a basic first aid kit and either a flare or stobe light. I wouldn't have liked the idea of standing around any of those accidents knowing I had stuff that might help......back at the trailer. Eli
  23. Knew I'd forget something....besides the charger for the laptop. Eli
  24. I planned on trail riding in UT this weekend but changed to Dumont because of the weather. I managed to escape the office early and hit some rain on the way. No rain at Dumont after I got here about 4:00. Sands Great. No crowds. Wind came up about dusk but I'm about to head out for a bit. Eli
  25. Ya and Memphis BBQ is OK but BBQ sauce=sugar even if it is cooked in. Sugar is very bad for me so when I am eating either place I'm cheating big time. Oddly enough the best ribs I've eaten in Vegas is at the Nevada Chicken Cafe and the rotisserie or BBQ chicken isn't bad either. Beats the heck out of Sonya's. They don't alway cook off ribs. If the mesquite grill out front is going later in the week and you are willing to wait or getting take out you may be in luck. If you are looking for special BBQ sauce this isn't the place. It's very different from what you expect BBQ to be. Just herbs and spices and some darn fine ribs. Outside seating for the smokers if the weathers nice and he's working on a Beer permit. You could call Nico and ask if he's got ribs but you will have to look up the number because I ain't telling ya...you might get the last half rack. Eli
