  1. I gave my daughter the Canon T1i for christmas, and it shoots extremely well. I've got the Canon 7D and its a great camera, one of the best I've owned, but for a solid entry to intermediate camera, the T1i works great and you'll not be disappointed. Like Pete said, the biggest deal is the Lens and understanding how to set it up. SP2 Mike
  2. Everyone have a great and safe New Year, and hopefully we get to see everyone Superbowl Weekend at the big D. SP2 Mike
  3. Just thought that some of you would enjoy this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Iwa-lSVqA1M&vq=medium Happy New Year SP2 Mike
  4. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - ALL SP2 - Mike
  5. Great guys on hot rod hill - got mine done there - in/out 10 minutes even finished the getting the new tags as well. I was told by the DMV that they start asking for smog on the diesel's once they hit 4 years. So if you have a 2006, you would have likely gotten hit this year. SP2 Mike
  6. :rainbow1: Thanks - dont want to take this monster out before I get the protection placed...wait that sounds wrong...anyway thanks
  7. Pete - what brand or type of protective screens did you get for the back screen and top screen. I just got my new Canon 7D yesterday, and just trying to get it setup. SP2 Mike
  8. Thanks - I figured with all the photo experts on this site, I'd have a good chance to get a head start - Can't wait. Sp2 Mike :peeps:
  9. :DDR: Just thought I'd pass this around - you can actually see the Honda Robot at Disneyland at Innoventions, and I understand that this personal vehicle is going to be there as well. I heard that each prototype is $3.8M YouTube - U3-X Personal Mobility Prototype SP2 Mike
  10. Good Deal - Well now I know that there's a local expert that I can hit up. Between all you guys, I figured that there's a ton of peeps out there who are more into this than I have been. So maybe we'll have to put something together, :peeps: do a few of these and snap a few. Would be great to compare notes on this stuff for sure. SP2 Mike
  11. Hey - I had to talk about my new toy - Have been looking to replace my EOS ELANIIe (35mm), Canon D40, and one of the first Canon Video Cameras they made. Wanted an HD model plus, a higher level professional DSLR. Figured to get two cameras. But after a month of looking I hit up some friends at work (ABC news desk). There most of these guys shoot with the EOS1 Mark IV-D but at over $6K a pop - just way too much camera, and I'm no where near that level of a shooter, not even close. So, I borrowed one of the EOS 7D and shot it for a week, really like it. Several of the guys have this for personal use, and heard alot of good things, nothing bad that was of concern. Video is also part of this unit, but a remote mic is needed as with most, as the (IS) portion of the lenses have some noise to them. It's a 18.0 Megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor and Dual DIGIC 4 Image Processors, and can capture images at up to ISO 12800 and speeds of up to 8 fps. So, the limitation will be on me trying to move fast enough to capture anything beyond that. I've had so much good luck wtih my other Canons over the last 20 years, plus I can use 75% of the current EF lenses I already have so I decided to go for it. So just got confirmation that my Canon EOS-7D Digital SLR Camera with a EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens & EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Lens has been shipped, should be here by Saturday. Looking forward to checking it out for sure, and may come close to all the great PIC's on this site. Heres some PIC of it. More to come SP2 Mike
  12. :bert: My Company just came out and said that we should be getting the new Sprint 4G EVO4's in the next 60 days. They look like the Droid, and are super fast - saw it at a preshow at Sprints Tech Lab show in NY a few weeks back. They are super fast, clean look. SP2 Mike
  13. Hey Nick - I've also got the XD45, and the XD40. Both are excellent, weapons. I carry the .45 more so just for the extra kick if needed when I travel. I've also have the Sig and Glk in the .45 cal but for handling and feel the XD just fits me better. Anyway, just my 2 cents, but I'd stick with the XD line for sure. SP2 Mike
  14. :ahhhhh: Not that I do, but after reading this thread, and not doubting Terry and Pete's knowledge of the areas rules, but if you look at the web-site that Terry provided, and type in Grey Water in the search field you'll find that the BLM differs in their definition about what is considered Waste of Black Tanks and Grey Water, Dishes, ect. 99% of what they consider ok to dump is grey as long as its strained and does not come in contact with existing standing water. In more than 10 of there descriptions, they are saying that it's OK to dump grey.......they dont say it specifically for Dumont, but given the overall definitions on their web-site, it sure looks like grey is handled or called out differently.... here's what they are saying; Camping: There is no camping within 200 yards of any wildlife watering improvement. Although no reservations are required, there is a 14-day camping limit within any three-month period. Park within 15 feet (roughly one vehicle length) of any roadway when camping or leaving a vehicle unattended to minimize habitat and vegetation impacts. Utilize good camping ethics, keep all refuse contained in dumpsters or receptacles provided, or pack out your garbage bags when you leave. Remember your shovel for both sanitation and fire prevention purposes. There is no dumping of sewer or petroleum products. Dumping of grey water from RV's is allowed, as long as you don't contaminate any standing water. It may be for specific camps or areas - dont know, but it does add some question around Vic's statement as to what are the actual written rules or definitions for "Grey"...... SP2 Mike
  15. :DDR: Thanks all for the replies - The wife and I are friends of Rosie's out there, and we've been riding out there for a while..... good place but the areas getting more closed down all the time. "Ciders in Flagstaff" have not heard about that place at all....anymore infor would be appreicated. Williams info riding would be great too - thanks all. SP2 MIke
  16. Hey Pat, better careful before Pete comes up with a "Special" old duners page for you, me and Vic... SP2 Mike
  17. :DDR: Well, threw the wife and dogs in the truck, and we got out there on Thursday mid-day, headed out to the far east side, and before you could say oh crap, I buried the truck even in 4 wheel low.....guess there's always a first time, but man, never at the D. So, after cussing and kicking my a$$, we let the air out to 10 lbs per tire, no good, had to also do the three sets on the trailer also (felt like a nornal day at Pismo) and hey we pulled our selves out went about 40 feet more to get level, and called it.....killed a 5th of daniels and 2 six paks, and the pain went away. Rode Friday, went to the races on Saturday for about an hour, didnt seem to be much going on, so we headed out to both the poles, and headed back. Took the pups for a ride back to the North Pole, got a lot of looks with them up front steering yellow farm equipment. but had a great time. The Big D was fairly vacant, not many people at all, so the dunes until late Saturday were pretty empty. Got up Sunday, rode to the South Pole, saw some jackass trying to light the new military letters box paper inside on fire, but they saw us coming up and took off. Too far for me to get an ID on the jerk-offs. But no harm done, just burnt paper on the ground. Headed back, got packed, and got about 100 ft, all looked great, so got out filled up the tires, and went 20 ft and frick'n buried the truck again........ So after getting two dumb-a$$ awards, and now for the second time trying to again let all the air out of my tires......two duners showed up and help me pull free with his truck. I didnt get names, but I sure do appreaciate it very much for the help. So limped the truck over next to vendor row, and filled up the damn tires "AGAIN". Chased a Grey Dodge Ram with a Fury Toy Hauler home through Tecopa, Never been that way back, so glad he knew his way back to Vegas.....and that was the trip. Had a great time, didnt hook up with anyone, but maybe next time. SP2 Mike
  18. Were leaving in the morning - hope to see you all out there...... Is there any kind of Meet and Greet going on or just cold beer if you run into one of us..... :cheesebong: We'll be in Yellow Farm Equipment, Blue/White Warrior Toy Hauler with White F350 and two bird dogs... see yah SP2 Mike
  19. :ahhhhh: Hey this sounds great - I wont be able to make it this year, as we'll be on the road headed to Kansas to pick up Grandpa's Truck but SuperBowl has been a Dumont tradition for years, but we actually stay to watch the game cheese.....yeah kids got to be back to school Monday . Never been to Glamis, so maybe we can jump in with you all next time out there. It'd be good to see you all again. SP2 Mike
  20. Hey you'all - Happy New Year to everyone!!! Looking for some new camp locations which will handle a 37' 5th, and has quad riding that is within 3-4 hours of Vegas this time of year. Looking to go somewhere this MLK weekend in AZ or NV that we dont have to drive all day to get there. Weve hit Sand Hollow and Pink within the last 4-6 weeks, and its just beyond freezing (yeah I know its winter) and weve been to the Big D three times, so just looking for something different. Looking online gets crazed and you really dont know what the hell you'll end up with. Anyway, if you know of a decent place, that's not a zoo, we'd sure appreciate any input. Thanks, SP2 Mike
  21. I'm with you Cheese - I hate those little slot car driven ba$turds, that why i leave the "slot car punch tool" in the reciever also.... SP2 Mike
  22. Excellent - Thanks Mark, appreciate it big time. This totally helps...... SP2 Mike
  23. Thanks Pat and Larry - So, sounds like it would be best to stay away from Cane road. It didnt look like the campsites had hook-ups? Dont know if you can confirm. The road in to the meadows - should I just follow signs to the campground, and is there a turn-off that says "Meadows" on it? Also, from what I'm hearing it looks to be about 3.5, to 4 hours pulling a trailer. I also saw a sign about no campfires unless in a metal tub of some kind? Hows the meadows for dogs, dont want LEO on top of me, but seems the meadows would be better to have dogs in. Look forward to meeting up with you guys also. SP2 Mike
  24. ok, so it looks like am heading up to Coral Pink on Thursday for 4 days. Never been before, always stayed at Sand Hollow. SO, can I get some of the local information - it looks to have a camp sites, but I dont remember any of you talking about specific sites more of an open find a spot type of camping. So, is the campsites not the place to be? Also, what's the best way to make the way up there with a 37ft 5th wheel? Any insight would be welcome - thx SP2 Mike
  25. :mog: You can count on the FAA making a visit to his wallet to collect "his pilot license".....that's one of the cardinal rules in flying.......You plan your ride - mechanical is one thing - stupid is not an option. SP2 Mike
