Bad Santa! Biker charged with kidnapping girl put the booze down, Santa COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) -- A man dressed as Santa Claus lured an 8-year-old girl onto his motorcycle and drove away, and her father chased him until he pulled over and gave her back, authorities said. The man, John Michael Barton, 55, was charged with kidnapping, police said. He was being held in jail on $100,000 bond. The girl, of Augusta, Georgia, and her family stopped at a convenience store off Interstate 20 on Sunday night when they noticed Barton, dressed in a Santa Claus suit, refueling his motorcycle, police said. Then, parents saw Barton driving away with their 8-year-old girl, authorities said. The girl's father followed Barton, reaching speeds up to 80 mph and flashing his headlights repeatedly, police said. Barton eventually stopped at a parking lot and the father picked up the girl, who was not injured. Barton was arrested later Sunday when police found him hiding in a utility room at a nearby bar, authorities said. Barton did not have an attorney at a bond hearing on Monday, said Lexington County sheriff's spokesman John Allard. i, for one, am glad to see something like this come along. too many times I have seen kids, under the age of 10, on an atv or motorcycle, with no parents around, doing things that they shouldn't be doing. I was at Hungry Valley OHRVA a year ago, and saw 2 kids riding 2 up on a 50, crash right into a toyhauler. the 50 was a pep-boys special. the parents, not much better, about 500 yds away, ripping into their second bottle of albertson's vodka, not watching a damn thing. it is people like that that give our sport a black eye. As a parent, when my son is riding, he is all I am focusing on. I want to be able to pass this great sport of ours on to him, and teach him the ways of respect and responsibility. after all, with all the greenies after our riding area, and all the negativity we get in the press, we need future RESPONSIBLE riders to carry the torch. If the next generation of our sport isn't, our sport WILL disappear, imo

Oceano used to be 15,000 acres of riding area...now down to 1500 acres...1500 acres. the old saying goes something like this...... when they came for oceano, no one spoke up when they came for glamis, no one spoke up when they came for Dumont, no one WAS LEFT to speak up as duners, we have to be pro-active, not reactive. just my .02

The Highway Patrol said 21-year-old Anthony Davis drove the wrong way down Highway 301 south of Rocky Mount in Nash County. The driver of the tractor-trailer swerved to miss Davis and they sideswiped one another. The ATV overturned and Davis landed in the roadway.
