  1. Please don't take offense, but that is very elementary to me. I've been on a race team since I was about 12, and I'm 53 now. I've been strapping cars and trucks down to a trailer for a long time. I really do understand that you're tryin to help a brother out, and I'm appreciative. We don't know each other yet. One day I'll buy you a cold beverage, and we will know each other. As far as the sand goes, my little honey takes a vacuum to do stuff just like this, she's a keeper. I'm leaning, right now, towards the hooks as shown above. We're gonna go to buttercup the first week in March. look us up before, so I can make good on that beer, I mean adult beverage(s). BBTank
  2. Thanks Randy. There is a company right here in Tucson that makes or has a good system. I'm still looking and researching. I don't like to do things twice!!! Those are probably the ones I'm gonna wind up installing.
  3. Did you see in my post that I went to 4 Wheel parts and bought 2 big tie downs? These are made to hold 4 wheel drive, full size trucks. I don't use any thing but ratchet tie down straps. I was asking where to buy good tie downs, the ones in the floor, you know, something to replace those cheesey little wire loop tie downs, from all the folks here. You guys have been doing this alot longer than I have. I worked on RV's for almost 9 years, but I've never had the priviledge of owning my own. I think I might run 3 tracks in the hauler, similar to the ones that are in commercial aircraft. I work on aircraft, so it was a logical progression to me. (I took a break from working on aircraft to work on RV's, that's why I have knowledge of both) Thanks for your help folks, BBTank
  4. I strapped my new sand rail in my toy hauler for the first time to go to Bowie dunes. When I got there, the straps were loose. I have 2 big straps from 4 wheel parts. I also use some 400 lb straps in conjunction with the big straps. I decided I didn't tighten them down enough because I was afraid the tie downs would pull up from the floor. When I got to a truck stop for fuel, I checked, everything was good. When I got home, an hour or so later, the left rear strap was loose, the ring had pulled one side of the "triangle" tie down from under it's holder. Is there anything that's made to replace those cheesey little tie downs? And where do ya get them from? I don't want a loose sand car in my toy hauler. I'm bad enough in the dirt with it!!!!! Thanks, BBTank
  5. Right here <------------------Expert marksman. And I'll do it for free. I served for a full career. I'm a VietNam era Veteran. I can shoot a gnats a$$ stretched over a pin head at 1000 yds. can I, can i, can i, huh?? can I???
  6. I'm so full, I think I'm gonna POP
  7. That would be cool, but I gotta get to the close dunes first to "shake" this thing down before I drive that far. I think we're gonna go to Bowie right before MLK day? Is that the 18th of Jan.? If so, that's when we're going to Bowie. I'm doing trepas for my buddies Mexican wife from NM. She's bringing the green chili's too!!!
  8. I got my first sand car on Christmas Eve!!!!!
  9. AMEN!!!! I usually do chitlin's (chitterlings) but just didn't do'em this year. We're going to Hot Wells Dunes in Bowie, AZ for the new car's first shake down run. We'll be doing trepas de leche out in the desert fo sho'. If you ever see me at the dunes, you better stop by my toy hauler, always a cold adult beverage, a shot of something, and something good to munch on, ribs, carne asada, buttermilk fried chicken, the list goes on and on and.......
  10. Congradulations. I'm old enough to be a grandpa too. I'm just really glad either of our boys have or will have children. One is a jypsy and happy, the other has serious immaturity issues. They're both in their early 30's. BBTank
  11. The black-eyed peas are for luck and the greens are for money, by traditional folk lore. I don't beleive it for a NY sec., but I keep eating it anyway. I live in tucson, on the east side of town. Houghton and Golf Links rds.!!!! Cornbread is done, and colling. You'd better hurry up before it gets cold. I would put pics on, but then I wouldn't have enough to feed everybody that came over!!!! BBTank
  12. we're making a traditional southern New Year's Day meal, collad and mustard greens seasoned with some pork belly, kinda like bacon. Also having black-eyed peas with fat back. The cornbread should be out of the oven in about 10 mins. or so. Y'all come on over and gitcha some!!!!
  13. I have the answer to people speeding around YOUR camp. Go out and buy the biggest, baddest, mostest powerfulest paint gun. Then shoot those that infringe on your 50 ft circle around your camp. And if they want to confront you, shoot them in the head. OK, I was just kidding, really good idea tho, ya gotta admit!!!
  14. Thanks fellow fat boy, I appreciate it muchly
  15. I'm in the back to see if all my friends will fit, I mean, if fat boy fits anybody I know will fit too. It is a turbo (T-4). I didn't do the mods, I just bought it the way it is. My new little brother, Brad built it, with some help from some vendors in the Phoenix area. It has an in-car comm, capable of car-to-car, a GPS, cooler rack, roof panel and sides, a Don's Bus Box. It has just had a bunch of money put into the suspension, changing it from VW to what it is now. It has 5 point harnesses on all 4 seats. I think about the only things I'm gonna change will be a dash of some kind, and the front seat belts that go over the shoulders. I might "X" the front end for some additional strength. A hood? But really, it is VERY close to how I would've built it myself.
  16. Great minds think alike.....or is it just fat boys always look out for ourselves?hahahahahah Tank
  17. I've been a good boy all year, I got a 09 sand car for Christmas, and I got an 06 39' toy hauler for my birthday in June. Dayum, I'm good these days................
  18. Nice car. I looked at a few Funco's before I bought the one I got 24 Dec.
  19. I'm in Tucson, who is this person, and do you know where he's located? I don't need anything right this minute, but we all know.....................
  20. Capt, you are 100% right, but the bar where the belts should be mounted are just not strong enough. I'm planning on triangulating 2 more bars to tie it into the floor and sides, then I'll move the belts where most are mounted. They will be alot better where they are, instead of not having them, we all know that. I'm not changing too much on this car. It's built just about how I would, if I did build it. I may do some kinda dash, or longer higher console, may even put switches overhead. I'm not moving, building anything until the maiden voyage next week (Dec 31-Jan 3). Or at least we think that's when we're going. I'm giddy like a little 14 year old school girl!!!!!
  21. Boy howdy am I glad to here that. I just bought an Expedition frame with a 3.0 T-4 Turbo Honda yesterday with a Don's Bus Box in it.
