there looked to be a spot in the middle of the dunes that was certainly closed...but they also closed what appeared to be the entire middle section of wooded trails and stuff so you had to go around them. Jodi and Mike said this was probably the most fun part of riding there was right where they closed.

I was thinking the same thing.....blm will see all the tracks and say they can't keep us out of the closed areas and will say we have no respect yada yada.....very poorly marked, seemed just like random signs everywhere

chadwick said he saw a bunch of people searching through the brush and counting beetles....no kidding. you can't tell me that these beetles are only in this one area with the vast amount of untouched land that is in the area. I'm wondering if they count beetles then head to the same area the following month or so and recount and if there aren't the same or more they are like "the beetles are disappearing due to the ATV's" haha. i'm willing to bet these beetles migrate all over that area....there is so much untouched land it's crazy to think they are just in that one area. so sad....this was my first time at coral pink and it seemed the closed areas were some of the most fun areas.

fyi, the new Nevada sticker isn't much bigger than the cali sticker now.... it's about 3x3 inch...this years is orange

4200 on craigslist. it has been for sale for quite a while.....may want to think about parting it out. Selling whole built quads is kind of hard these days. I will say a +1 MMAD head with the lightspeed cams would be a strong runner on a 480 setup. MMAD makes great power out of the yfz

so sad to hear of anyone that passes at the dunes but it's probably fine by him that he passed doing something he loved to do, best wishes to his family. I hope I'm still riding at his age....and not just some rzr.

my 2003 Silverado had transmission issues

it's definitely looking better now...I may not come right up first thing in the morning though...no rush since I think it will still be windy in the morning but will probably be super nice in the afternoon and sunday looks great

right now I see 30 mph Friday and 19 Saturday...this is what our weather on base is predicting...Sunday is a lot better

"if" a sign were to be put in place i would think the best place for it would be right next to the automated pass machine since a lot of people that don't frequent dumont use that machine for their pass.

from the looks of the pic it looks like some part of the cage was pro armor...you can see the emblem just behind the pass seat

I ended up going on another ride about an hour after this happened just to get back at it and not let it get to me....definitely an eerie feeling. Also agree about he roll cages, it's a shame you have to "upgrade" the roll cages straight from factory and even though a better roll cage may not have helped in this situation it definitely could have increased the chances of at least the passenger sustaining less injury. Looks like the brunt of the impact was on the drivers side. Again...terrible feeling after this happened...first time ever at the dunes when someone passed.

that was a long tow back.....never thought that little rope would hold up but since it did I might get one now....unless a tow rope is bad luck.....I was hoping mine didn't over heat towing you but made out ok, fan didn't even come on. Travis banshee held up all weekend and for the first time ever he didn't even break out a tool box. Last run of the day today I ran my quad out of gas about 100 yards from the north pole haha....and another first...it was me running out of gas and not travis on his banshee. thank goodness for reserve. totally sucks you didn't get to stay and ride and try out your new mods...hopefully it's only what you mentioned already and didn't screw the head up any and at least he's paying for the damage caused.

Sand thing to hear/see. When I rode by it I could tell it was not going to be a good outcome....couldnt' even tell what kind of sxs it was other than can am( I have never seen any can am land a good jump that I can remember anyway...they all seem to pitch forward really bad). Case in point why I don't get too crazy on the dunes....I know my limits and no matter how fun it would be to launch my quad 50 feet....i'll probably never get it much more than 2 feet off the ground, at my age it's just not worth it. Prayers to the families....that was the first time I've been at the dunes and seen a death....eerie feeling and it certainly re-sets that safety mode for me.

well I'm gonna go through regardless, hopefully since it starts Saturday i'll have a clean path in from Vegas on Friday....i'll just leave a little earlier on Sunday I guess
