OK, I really was going to post in the previous thread that was closed before I could get to it so here is the story like it or not. I to was there when the blk Nissan rolled up and I can give you the short version or the long one but to say it straight up I will tell you what I saw and what the Leo may have been thinking; Blk truck with Limo tinting on all 4 windows rolls up and actually rolls by where the ranger is standing. It takes a few seconds before the rear window is lowered and the ranger steps up and there is a conversation about the pass. Officer was wary as he couldn't see the occupants and occupants didn't roll down the drivers window and this may have seemed to the LEO that they were hiding smething or may have had a weapon. Rear passenger finally gets out and mumbles to himself as he relucantly walks over to trailer to buy pass. Ranger looks at the trailer and tells the other occupants that their straps are loose. LEO has to tell them 3 times before they finally get out with an attitude to rearrange trailer. He may have had an attitude but after seeing what I saw I would have too. You have to remember these people are Police Officers and have been trained that when things are out of the ordinary to nose around to see whats going on. I think he may have let you off easy and you guys don't even respect him for telling you that your bike is loose or the fact that if you had something to hide he very easily could have gotten all 3 of you out and searched the truck. All he would have to is issue citations to effect a proper search. So that is a brief version of what I saw at the pay station on Sat. B370 was there and we had pretty much the opinion right away that something wasn't right about this truck and it's occupants, B370 has no law enforcement but I do and I can tell you that you probably got off easy as others did this weekend. I saw a ranger ignore a obivious flag violation and even saw one let an open container violation go away. Just remember this, if you get hurt out their, after calling out for your "mommy" you will be calling out for a ranger/emt. Your $20.00 helps keep them out there so they can respond quickly and get you the help you need. Ask barefoot bob how they helped with his son and the lost boy. Maybe you could buy a pass at a local vendor in the future in town and not have to worry about the whole issue, maybe you could have gone to vendors row after you came in and got a pass. Or maybe you could beat the system how you do that is my concern because I want to see them there and if me or my family is injured I want to look at someone who is trying to save their patient who is lying in the sand. I for one will gladley pay for that possible situation and I believe we should sleep in our rigs knowing they have your back.

Pete, it will probably be white and have a coat of dust making it grey. That way as the wind blows it blends right in! Also it will be SANDBLASTED, so make sure you find him!!
-
The wind does not blow it SUCKS!

Nice Ryan, now all he needs is a car!

I just received an e-mail from Roxie trost who is the field manager for BLM Barstow. The e-mail was a conversation about the vendor situation, here is part of the e-mail that I thought would be of interest to this board; "As for needing more vendors in Las Vegas, I agree. Something that still needs to be worked on. We need more vendors everywhere! And we need to be able to sell season passes. Off Road Buggy is taking a lot of heat because customers can not purchase the season passes yet. We knew this wouldn't be easy." If you are a business in Las Vegas and want to get in on selling passes please contact Larry_Blaine@ca.blm.gov <Larry_Blaine@ca.blm.gov> via e-mail. We need vendors on the highway out of town Hwy. 160 and on I15 so if you live near by a place you want to stock them you may want to give them a head's up. We know this is a pain but believe me it will get better and I think more convienent for everyone down the line. Terry

No, there 2 seperate areas and each has it's own pass.
-
I just talked to Lynette and have been advised that the BLM will be at the gate this wekend and will accept credit cards and personal checks. Hope this helps.
-
Who me I wouldn't do that!
-
Didn't figure you did, your being so sensitive. you would think the "El Presidente" would have thicker skin?
-
I never said I was a weatherman! I figured that if I bought it up now it would upset the dune gods and then they would fix it. And so it goes!
-
I just watched the news and looked at the weather online for Shoshone and Baker are forecasting windy conditions but good temps. You had better bring the sand goggles for this one! Damm I hate sand in my beer! Oh well that's why I have an RV if it's to bad maybe we need a good poker game?

The deal is that you get dollar for dollar credit for all weekly passes you buy before the season passes are completed. 2 rules- you must keep the credit card receipt and pass together for return, and the pass must be in your name via the credit card slip. If you buy 100.00 worth of passes before the season passes come out and you only want a non holiday yearly pass for $90.00 you Will Not get a $10.00 refund. If you want the holiday pass you would turn in all 5 of your weekly's and $20.00 and you will be good to go. We are not taking in any more money in fact we are taking in less due to the use of last years prices instead of the higher ones that take effect in November.

I just checked the BLM web site and yes the Nv. off road buggy is listed as a vendor where you can get passes. I am so glad they told everyone, typical goverment operation.
-
I believe your talking about NV. off road buggy having Ca. Green Stickers, not Dune passes. The contracts have not been put out for Vegas sales as of yet as far as I know. Yes I agree with Tim that it could have come off better however we are dealing with goverment contracts both in selling the passes but in letting the last contract with Western Maint. go away. This takes time in goverment terms, everything they do has to be approved by someone else, it's a joke that the goverment operates the way they do but it is what it is. We are working to make the transition smooth as possible but we are aware that there will be some who don't like the way it will be and others will love it. So I figure if we are pleasing half the duners we are batting 500% and that's pretty good!
-
So now you are coming to Dumont? Your worse than an old women! Course you drive like one so I guess I should expect it!!
-
Their goal is to have retail vendors in the surronding cities and towns. they are also having vendors who sell at Dumont have the ability to sell them. BLM will also sell them at their office and is trying to do an on line purchase set up. They are also considering having the area hosts have the ability to sell them at the dunes.
-
I would not suggest VW blocks or other hazardous materials being burnt at Dumont. The rangers write really big tickets and you are/can charged with a federal felony. Not worth it. If your going to do that please take it somewhere else. Terry

My understanding is that they were going to be on the edge of the canyon and then run south and north. That would keep the rock pile peeps semi happy and only displace a few that camp on the outer edge of the flats above the pass check area. I believe the TRT tried to make it the best move for everybody with the least amount of displaced duners. I am sure some people will complain but that's not unusual with anything new.

Pete, the vendors were offered the side oppisite the Sherrifs station first. They as a group decided it was to soft there and took the area to the right of the station. They were moved for their safety and everyone elses. Having a lot of cash and having the rangers nearby would be good in my opinion. Also the area they were in was a huge accident waiting to happen. Also since the vendors will be selling passes it gives them the chance to advertise that fact on the back of their rigs.

Shelly is unsure at this minute. Depending on when and if she makes up her mind I would like to go out Friday AM if she can't go and Friday evening if she decides to go. Garret and Richard are saying they are coming out Sat. after Garret's football game. If we go Fri. am it's worth taking the rhino otherwise it's not in my opinion.

Ok, ok, I try to have a little fun with you and you become Mr. sensitive? Jeez, Ok Walt you are hereby formally invited to attend the dunes next weekend , that is with certain qaulifiers: to wit: I am still alive, I am not taking a nap etc. oh yeah and that my car is on 4 wheels. Other than that you have a standing invite. By the way we can leave the rhino at home if you want to take the shee.

Rich, I just want you to know why BLM was advised, first if any filming by a fimmaker, commercial co. etc. is going to be conducted at Dumont they have a fee to pay just like we do but larger, way larger. They have restrictions just like we do on things thy can and can't do.Secondly, the road is not in the best of shape and the layer of asphalt that was put down is very thin in some places so a car throwing itself sideways and throwing debris all over is not helping on top of this wasn't something they were supposed to be doing. We(you & me) paid for that asphalt covering not them. I want BLM to supervise these companies during there permit times to make sure that they are leaving the dunes better than when they arrived just as we all should. So to put it bluntly you did the right thing and it is appreciated. We need to keep our eyes open to what is going on when we are not there. Thank you for your post! Terry

Here is the reply I got from BLM on the commercial; Mercedes was issued a filming permit for the OPEN Area, which does NOT include the access road. Thanks for letting us know, we will deal with it. Lynnette
