I just got back from there. We had 5 days of perfect weather. Suppose to be nice through the weekend. The radio said chance of showers sat. Not too many people as of 2 pm. The rangers were all there getting set up.

We left this morning and it still was not that crowded. Big wind storm xmas eve smoothed everything out but it was pretty torn up by last nite. The sand still had some moisture from some rain prior to xmas.

The road in wasn't too bad. Cruised it at about 15 mph. The nights were pretty cold so I would make sure your propane tanks are full and bring some firewood.

We were there from Dec 22 until yesterday. First time I have seen that much snow in the mountains surrounding the dunes. The first week, there was hardly no one there. Had some rain and then major wind Xmas eve. The wind smoothed out the dunes for Xmas day. You could see the sand that had dry'd moving up the dunes. About 6 inches down after the sand moved was the wet sand. It needed to dry but with the really cold weather, it will take some time. The dunes by Sat. were torn up pretty good. Not a lot of people out compared to other years. Thought we'd share some of the shots we took. Went to comp one day and one person was there, a German with a parachute. I took him to the top and let him fly.

Comp at night has been pretty mellow, too. The crowds were really mellow on New Years Eve, but lots of cool fireworks! I know you'll all be disappointed that no stripper poles have been spotted yet!

The sand seemed to smooth out on Friday, over by the North Pole. Saturday morning we went for a ride and the sand was smooth by the North Pole, but still choppy by Comp & Banshee.

Had a great time though!
