  1. 2007 Raptor 700R. $4,000 OBO. Only ridden by our daughter in the sand dunes. Very low mileage. Selling due to her going away to college. This Raptor is in perfect conditon. Never crashed, never even trail ridden except to break it in when we bought it. It has the candy apple red frame with grey plastic. Comes with the normal dirt tires (hardly any wear) and 2 ITP 10" Sand Star sand tires for the back. It also has 3" spacers for the back and 1 1/2" spacers in the front for a better balanced ride. Everything else is stock. This quad will beat a Yamaha 450R that is stock for all you racers out there. It is EFI so you can take it to higher altitudes and not worry about re-jetting. Make us a decent offer and this quad might be yours. We are located in Prescott Valley, AZ. Call us at 928-925-1367 or 928-925-5694 or email us @ jandlmason@hotmail.com.
  2. Don't know about this year but we went there last year and no problem. My friend brought some Rx perscriptions and they filled them. He also got some teeth filled. We came across the border with no problem.
  3. Hey, sounds good. We'll look for ya. It's always more fun when you have more people on rides.
  4. We go out every year to Dumont a few days before Xmas and stay through New Years. We camp in the wash below and bring our tree and gifts. The days before and Xmas day are great because usually the dunes are vacant or near vacant.
  5. We're going up the day before Xmas and staying throught the New Years. Usually a few days before Xmas are great - not a lot of people there.
  6. These are the same type people that come to the dunes and leave all their crap for us to pick up.
  7. OGP, loved what you said - Amen to all of it. My father was injured at Pearl Harbor, his brother was killed on the Arizona. My dad met my mom because she was a Navy nurse in Hawaii at the time. I am a Viet Nam vet. My brother has been in the military for over 25 years. My wife served in the Persian Gulf, her brother is in Iraq, so I am very proud of any body who has served in the service and perserved our freedoms. I don't want to get going here - my hair on my arm is already raised. Unfortuately, when I used to work for the County of Los Angeles, I had to rewrite the election system so that Hispanics, and others could read the ballot in their language. I complained to the board of supervisors and told them as a citizen of the US, you have to speak english. I was shut down. All this stuff pisses me off. I couldn't have said it better than you did OGP.
  8. I was at Gordon's Well 2 weeks ago with my rail and quad. I talked to the Sheriff and BLM while I was there asking about OHV stickers in Calif. since I am from Arizona. Here's what they both said. For states that have an OHV sticker (not just the off-road plate), you do NOT have to have the Calif. sticker. I believe Utah has this as well. In Arizona, the sticker costs $25 a year. So, the bottom line, a quad must have a OHV sticker from your state if that state provides OHV stickers. If the state does not have these, you must buy the non-resident tag from Calif. Now for all you Sand Rails peeps, at least in Arizona, you can't get an OHV sticker for anything over 1800 lbs. I forgot to ask them if Rails then need to purchase a non-resident tag from Calif. Hopefully, someone from this site might know.
  9. We have done a lot like Sand Chick. I pack my lunch to work now We cancelled HBO Got rid of house phone and now we only use or cell phone Drive a little slower to work to save a little on MPG Cancelled going to Jiffy Lube, change my own oil now Hardly go out to eat, we BBQ a lot at home now Plan shopping so we only go into town maybe once every 2 weeks Wife stopped getting nails done, and hair colored all the time Wash my own cars Used to have 2 trash cans, now we pay for only 1 Use cash for everything, no more using charge cards Shop at Frey's of Safeway and when we have spent $100, we get 20 cents off on gas. All this so we can have more money for duning. We dune a lot. During the season, we average going to DD about 5 times a season usually staying 4-5 days each time. During Xmas season, we are at DD from a week prior to Xmas through News Years. Then we also go to Gordon's Well about 5 times a season and stay 3-4 days each time. Gas costs a lot since DD is a 6 1/2 drive for us (but worth it). Between the Deisel gas and buggy gas, costs can add up so we have cut back on many things just for this.
  10. Some observers say they saw something fall out of the balloon. I just pray it was a battery or something like that.
  11. If you go to this site you can see what it looks like. It's a UK site and I will continue to look for where I got it in the US. It works great. http://www.shedrite.com/itemdetl.php/itemcode/29
  12. I'm at work but when I get home, I will check where I got it and how much it cost me. It's really loud and works great. You put a key in and turn it which puts it in the noise mode (there's a test mode that allows you to actually hear it). Wind and such won't set it off but it needs to be cut to get at your toys, and once a bolt cutter or anything else starts to penetrate it, the alarm goes off.
  13. Be very careful. Last year after the normal Sat. 2:00pm get together at the South Pole, a bunch of us took a dune ride together. We stopped for a break, I got out of my rail, popped a beer, walked up to someone on a Raptor and introducted myself. He asked me what I was doing with an open container. I looked at his clothes and guess what, he was the law. Luckily he was pretty cool but warned me that they are getting tougher out there. So now they have buggies and quads - you need to watch out. I now just leave my beer at camp and save the drinking for later. Much safer that way.
  14. I also use the Krypto chain to lock everything down. I also bought a 30' 120 decibel lock. Works just like the Kypto chain lock but if someone cuts the wire, the alarm goes off and it is super loud. I also sometimes bring my big male Rot and he sleeps out side. It is sad that a few make it so bad for others that have worked to hard to get what we have.
  15. I'm really surprised your pop, who served in Vietnam agrees with Obama. I don't know how much he has seen and don't want to compare but I also served in Vietnam in the Navy Seals and have seen plenty, especially during Tet. For most of us who served in Nam, we wanted to kick butt but weren't allowed to. Now Obama wants to talk more to these 3rd world nations. They hate us and no talks will stop them. We need to send in 200,000 troups and get it over with. Because of military men like your dad, myself and other military people, you have the freedom today to be an American and have the freedoms you have. If we let the Taliban continue, believe me, they will rule this world and all your freedoms will be gone. Now tell us what Obama has done. You say give him a chance. I didn't vote for him but have been waiting for him to followup on his promised for the last year. Obama promised he'd shut down guantanamo - didn't happen. He said he would end this war - didn't happen. He bailed out the hugh companies with stimulus money but they people still can't get loans, but the companies survived while millions are losing their jobs and foreclosing on their homes. Have you checked out where some of the stimulus money went to - like $400,000 for the Kennedy foundation, same for the Las Vegas Historical Society, etc. etc. He promised do do something about Global Warming - nothing there, he promised to have immigration reform and still nothing, he promised to have limits on executive power and nothing there. He promised we'd have health care reform - but his way will cost people more money for health care. He flys all over the country, each time spending millions of dollars to do so, staying in hotel rooms that cost $3,500 a night to talk to school kids in Arizona for an hour. We are all sitting here telling you what he hasn't done. My brother-n-law was so pro Obama that he worked to get him elected. He now doesn't support him at all and is very dissappointed. Even the television people like Bill Mahr are ragging on him now. How can you support a person who would not wear the American Flag on his suit, who wouldn't say the national anthym? Please tell us what he has done so we can be more informed and support him.
  16. As everyone knows, most of the TV people are on the far left, especially SNL. For the second straight week, Saturday Night Live opened with Fred Armisen doing an impression of President Barack Obama in a skit that wasn't flattering. This time, SNL's faux-Bama played off "his" Nobel Peace Prize victory last week in a rather predictable way, stating that "I won it for not being George Bush." Merely stating a fact does not a funny Obama skit make, but just the same, it was indicative of the TV comedy world turning its sights on the chief executive. SNL joked in its news segment that after Obama won this prize so early in his presidency, honors like People's Sexiest Man designation may soon go to kids. This followed an SNL Obama skit that received major attention the week before, where the President lauded his accomplishments (of which there are none). Even the leftest's realize he has done NOTHING but hurt this country.
  17. Coral Pink is at 6000' so jetting is to be considered for quads unless you have EFI. There are 22 RV Trailer Sites that can be reserved by calling 1-800-322-3770. The sites costs $16 a night. There is also dry camping for $8 a day. The best RV sites are 11, 17, 4, 5, 8, & 10. They are all about 100 feet long with hookups on asphalt. I like 11 the best because you are closer to the entrance to the sand and don't have to ride as far on the asphalt to get to the sand. You are limited to 1 vehicle attached to your RV and 8 people per camp site. Quite hours are 10pm - 7am. I've never road from your area to Kanab (Coral Pink) but think you would take I-15 towards Salt Lake City, UT-9 exit 16 towards Hurricane/Zion, then UT-59 which becomes AZ-389, then CR-237/Cane Beds Rd which becomes Sanddune Rd. The address of Coral Pink is 12500 Sanddune Rd.
  18. I drive it straight in as well. I have a 38 foot Gearbox toyhauler. I load one quad in first (sideways) then just drive the car straight in. I've never had a problem. However, I don't have much of a choice. My car is 98" wide with the back sand tires on. I have to put different tires on just for that. With a table on one side and a bed on the other as you get closer to the kitchen, there isn't enough room to back it in even with different smaller tires. I even had to change out my front tires to 13x5 VW tires just to get the front in. Saving for a Diesel Pusher and Stacker.
  19. We'll keep coming until the weather gets a little over 90 degrees. Then we plan on going to St. Anthony's and getting the boat ready for the summer fun.
  20. Go here for a great review of the camera. You can't go wrong with a Canon. For those considering buying a digital camera but don't want a DSLR and lenses to put on, consider the Canon PowerShot SX10IS. It has 10 mega pixels, 20x zoom, etc. It's the closest camera I have seen that gets very close to a DSLR and it is a lot cheaper. There's a review for it as well at the link below. http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_review...on_eos_50d.html SUMMARY of the 50d Blurring the line between amateur and professional dSLR cameras, Canon has introduced the EOS 50D, as an upgrade to the 40D released last year. This new model is expected to be the camera body of choice for amateur photographers this holiday season. What really makes it stand out from the 40D is the APS-C sized, 15.1-Megapixel CMOS sensor (4752x3168), the new DIGIC 4 image processor, 3-inch Clear View LCD monitor with 920,000 dots, ISO settings from 100-12800 and Live View with Face Detection. One thing that has carried over from the 40D is the 14-bit per channel color space, allowing for incredibly smooth tonal gradation. Canon’s new DIGIC 4 processor provides finer details and more natural colors thanks to the speed in which it operates. Making the 50D one of the fastest cameras on the market, the processor allows the camera to shoot at 6.3 frames per second for up to 90 JPEG or 16 RAW images. Using advanced signal technologies, it also allows the camera to detect and focus on up to 35 faces in live view mode, offers an improved Auto Lighting Optimizer and Peripheral Illumination for EF lenses. The latter two allow the camera to adjust brightness and contrast as well as evening the brightness throughout the image. The new 15.1-Megapixel CMOS sensor provides the capability to record ISO sensitivities that have previously been too noisy for low-light or motion photography. This combined with an adjustable noise reduction feature allows you to shoot in situations that would have required a flash on previous cameras. The large sensor also brings large image files, approx. 5MB for a JPG and 20.2MB for a RAW file. To allow for all of the information of a RAW picture file with a more manageable file size, Canon has included two sRAW settings. Using either sRAW1 or sRAW2 your files will be 25% or 50% smaller as the camera will capture the files with a 7.1 or 3.8-Megapixel resolutions. This is the first dSLR that Canon has allowed the use of the sRAW settings in the Basic shooting zone. Featuring body dimensions that are very similar to the 40D, the 50D’s body is about ½ ounce lighter, but with the same basic sturdy build and design. Ergonomically the controls are set up very well, giving you the ability to make quick changes on the fly. Framing your images can either be done with the optical view finder or the LCD screen using Live View. The optical view finder shows approx. 95% of the captured image, provides all of the shooting information and a 9-point AF focusing system. Unlike a point and shoot with an EVF (electronic view finder), you never lose sight of your image when shooting in bursts. If the optical view finder is not for you, then you will definitely enjoy using the 3-inch Clear View LCD Screen. With 920,000 dots, you see an incredible amount of detail on the screen. Using the LCD also gives you a couple of options you don’t get with the viewfinder. First you have the option of using Face Detection, with the ability to recognize and focus on up to 35 faces at once. Secondly you can press the zoom button on the back to zoom in to 5x and 10x the actual range in order to achieve the best focus. Whether an amateur or a professional, you will not be disappointed with the performance of the 50D. After you flip the power switch, the camera is able to capture its first image in just 3/10 of a second. Shutter lag is almost non-existent when the camera is pre-focused, and only 2/10 of a second when allowing the auto focus to operate. Shooting in single shot mode, I was able to capture 5 images in 1.1 seconds without the flash, almost as fast as you can hit the shutter release button. With the flash it only took 2.6 seconds to capture 5 images. While shooting in RAW or JPEG mode, these results were the same. The camera also features two burst shutter modes. In Continuous shutter mode, the camera was able to capture 10 images in 2.3 seconds without the flash and 10 images in 5.8 seconds with it. There is also the High Speed Continuous shutter mode that allowed me capture 10 images in 1.7 seconds (5.8 fps). The flash can also be used in this mode; however, it will produce the same results as in Continuous shutter mode. Canon states that the camera can capture up to 90 JPEG and 16 RAW files at 6.3 fps but as we have listed above, the best we were able to get was 5.8 fps. Our tests were completed using a SanDisk Extreme Ducati Edition 4GB Compact Flash card (then duplicated with a 4GB Kingston Elite Pro 133x Compact Flash card), Program mode, flash off, ISO 100 and all other settings at the factory defaults unless noted otherwise. Times may vary depending on lighting conditions, camera settings, media, etc. With the capabilities of the new DIGIC 4 processor and 15-megapixel imaging sensor and 14-bit A/D conversion, the image quality is nothing short of astounding. The exposures and colors are great, reproducing an image that looks identical to what you see when you take the picture. Shooting with the new 18-200mm (28.8-320mm with the 1.6x multiplier) 3.5-5.6 IS lens from Canon, you do not need to worry about changing lenses very often. On the wide end it was great for shooting landscape and group portrait shots, while on the telephoto end you are able to get extremely close to your subject. The Image Stabilization on this lens allows you to shoot using lower shutter speeds and the full zoom without the need for a tripod when compared to a similar lens without IS. There was a little barrel distortion on the wide end and the only noticeable flaws are the aberrations on the curb and right side of the firehouse shot, and also very slight on the sides of the museum shot. Shooting indoors also produced the same impressive results. The auto white balance does an excellent job of reproducing the actual colors that you see when shooting. While shooting under standard fluorescent lights, we noticed that the metering system is so sensitive that the flickering lights would cause different exposures when shooting without the flash. Using the built in flash, the images were slightly cooler than without. If the built in flash does not have enough range for your needs, the camera also works with any EX-series Speedlite flashes. These allow the camera to adjust the angle of the flash to match the zoom of the lens. On the samples page, you can see shots taken with the built in flash as well as several using Canon’s EX-380 speedlite. Performance and quality really stand out when shooting sports. Our samples show the ability of the camera, with and without a flash, to capture images in all situations. Combining the 50D with Canon’s EF 70-200mm 1:2.8 L IS USM lens, I was able to shoot under the lights at night and inside around the pool without a flash while never raising the ISO over 800. Using a Canon 380EX speedlite, I was able to lower the ISO to 400 with no problems. The burst shooting modes make capturing those instantaneous sports moments much easier, with the 6.3 fps that Canon claimes (5.8 was the best we could get). Burst shooting did slow a little, however, shooting in the 20 degree (working temperature range 32-104°F) snowy weather causing the bursts to slow or stop after just a few shots, but overall the camera did perform well several degrees under the listed operating temperature. Powering the 50D is a 7.4V, 1390mAh Li-Ion battery. Canon claims that this will provide enough power to shoot up to 800 shots without a flash and 640 with it, using the viewfinder. During our testing I was able to take just over 600 images using a 380EX flash unit and a Canon EF 70-200mm 1:2.8 L IS lens, without the battery dying. When using Live View mode via the LCD screen, the number is drastically reduced down to 180 shots without the flash on a full battery. Unless you going to be taking several day trips in which you will be taking over 600 photos, it is not necessary to have a second battery, but it is always a good idea to have a backup. Bottom Line – Upgrading the popular 40D, the 50D provides similar performance and increased image size and quality thanks to the addition of the new DIGIC 4 processor. The combination of speed and performance makes this the perfect camera for the enthusiast or anyone looking to upgrade from an entry-level dSLR. With a MSRP of US$1399 for the body, the size and quality of the images is in my opinion worth the extra money over the 40D. To go along with the body, Canon’s new EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens adds a great deal of versatility without having to change lenses every time you encounter a new shooting situation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Canon has announced an updated firmware for the EOS 50D Details - EOS 50D Firmware Update Version 1.0.3 This firmware update incorporates the following improvements and fixes: 1. Corrects a phenomenon in which an image becomes overexposed when C.Fn.II-3 Highlight tone priority is set to 1 together with other camera settings. (This correction has already been incorporated in the Version 1.0.2 and later firmware.) 2. Corrects a rare phenomenon in which busy blinks on the cameras display panel and the shutter cannot be released due to the timing of battery installation. 3. Corrects a rare phenomenon in which Err 99 appears on the cameras display panel and LCD monitor and the shutter cannot be released due to the timing of pressing the shutter button. To download either of these new updates, visit Canon's U.S.A. Support site.
  21. The video is awesum. I thought to myself, I want a camera like that. I checked out the Sony PMW EX3. It's only $13,000 dollars. I'm going to rush right out and get one - not. Nice camera.
  22. We were there from Dec 22 until yesterday. First time I have seen that much snow in the mountains surrounding the dunes. The first week, there was hardly no one there. Had some rain and then major wind Xmas eve. The wind smoothed out the dunes for Xmas day. You could see the sand that had dry'd moving up the dunes. About 6 inches down after the sand moved was the wet sand. It needed to dry but with the really cold weather, it will take some time. The dunes by Sat. were torn up pretty good. Not a lot of people out compared to other years. Thought we'd share some of the shots we took. Went to comp one day and one person was there, a German with a parachute. I took him to the top and let him fly. First time for my wife to drive the car
  23. Wow, love your car. I have the same one except blue swirls. Maybe we can get together some time. Hope to see you at Dumont. We've had ours out now for the 3rd season and never had a problem with it.
  24. We'll be looking for ya. Sounds like a good time.
