Mr. Sandman
I copied and pasted the following from another forum I frequent. Does anyone know if this is accurate or not? BLM strikes again in California I just got off the phone with the Barstow field office of the BLM. As of the 15 of May you need to have a camp fire permit. This now includes the desert areas of So. Cal. This not only is for camp fires but you need it for even a coleman camp stove! And you can only get the permit at the closest BLM office to where you are going. NO MAIL OR ONLINE!. So that means that you guys that come from Vegas to Dumont have to drive 100 miles out of your way to get a friggin permit!. Can you imagine what that office is going to be like on the day before Thanksgiving with 1500 trucks, trailers and rv's trying to get their permits so they don't catch sand on fire? It's a $1000.00 fine or 6 months in jail or both!. I think this is going to a huge cluster----. The women at the BLM office didn't understand why it would be such a problem because the permits are "free". Holy crap!.
FE135
I found this. I would bet this is just an old rumor recirculating. Wouldn't be the first time. http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/info/newsroom/2010/october/CDD_1105_campfires.html
ynot
It is an old rumor and there's nothing to it.
FE135
Perhaps this is what is generating the fuss. http://www.desertdispatch.com/news/lands-12954-public-barbeques.html I bet Dumont is not part of this since sand doesn't burn very well. Mr. Sandman
From BLM's website, although it sounds like a seasonal fire restriction that will be lifted come October based on past restriction lifts such as what was posted above by FE135. http://www.blm.gov/p...strictions.html Edited May 18, 2012 by Mr. Sandman
obvondw
From BLM's website, although it sounds like a seasonal fire restriction that will be lifted come October based on past restriction lifts such as what was posted above by FE135. http://www.blm.gov/p...strictions.html The following is taken from the link above: Permits are available through the CDD office, all BLM field offices, fire/ranger stations, and from all BLM patrol personnel. So, until the permit requirement is lifted, a permit can be obtained from a BLM patrol at Dumont, assuming Yogi Bears' good buddy is on site. raspadoo
All of these new rules and regulations... WAY easier the accept the rare warning / fine than attempting to keep up on the latest. Cheers
dunefreak
This isn't a new rule. It's actually been around for years. Its just published differently now. It hasn't, nor will be, enforced at Dumont.

desertrider71
If anyone is in the market for a fire pit, buy/low used appliances @ boulder and trop has a bunch of old washing machine tubs for $20 a piece. I picked up a nice sized stainless tub from them a few weeks ago.
