  1. Neighbors all have new Rhinos, AND all for sale after the first trip. Every one of them. The forums are full of Rhinos for sale from people that just bought them. Neighbors say too tipsy, they or some in their groups rolled them. Wife gave me the greenlite to get one,, but nahhh,, not yet. They just haven't bit me on the a$$ with interest. We bought the early Raptor and the tipsyness and high vibration turned us off and we soon sold it. Yamaha came out with a much improved model in the 700. Wonder with the rash of fatals & roll overs across the country if they'll re-design the Rhino? Polaris quickly came out with a wider more stable FI Ranger when the popularity took off. The early ones were tiny gardening trucks far more unstable than the Yamaha. My guess, and pure dim witted guess is Yamaha will either drop the Rhino because all the accidents and fatals have to bring on litigation, or build a much more sturdy version, but not improve the existing model. It's a slow to move, thick skulled company. Every time we see a Suzuki Samurai head to the dunes with a novice family and no roll bar we see a bad incident coming. Starting to get the same feeling with Rhinos. Waddaya think?:
  2. Yeah,, back brake is the key player
  3. Our campfire is our dishwasher. Paper plates, cups, napkins and wooden utensils all burn nice.
  4. Saw a little girl get killed at the comp whoops a few years back. She crushed her tiny chest on the handlebar bracket puncturing her heart and lungs. We were numb from the experience for a long time,, still bothers us. Didn't have to happen. That's why Maynard is armored up: $140 worth of equipment is cheap insurance.
  5. Amazing how many people got stuck into comp, and along vendors row. Never seen so many. Think a huge Glamis crowd has migrated to Dumont by the sour hostile attitudes of everyone. A guy in a brand new Dodge truck towing a 5th wheel destroyed his tranny when he got stuck in front of the Funnel cake stand. Felt bad for the family. A huge crowd of gawkers formed watching their new shiny truck sitting on it's frame. They just arrived and smoke was pouring outta the trans like white paint from a firehose. Nothing like the smell of a toasted tranny. All of vendors row reaak'd. We loaned his group 4 HD tow straps & his friends all daisy chained him out finally, then he had his truck tow'd into LV for a new trans. Allison transmissions for this family. 80,000 brutally hard, hot and heavy towing trouble free miles. Moms KFX 700 day one. Had a really dumb guy keep coming by our site wanting to chat and tell me how great Dodge trucks are. His wife is the one that does all the technical thinking in that family. Judging by all their caution tape, we figured them right for Glamis people. Wrestling's real, we faked the moon landing believing guy. "Dumbest adult I ever met" said my 6 year old. He called it right.
  6. We had pig farms out here for a few decades. All the waste leached into the water table and most the wells are undrinkable, irrigation only. Way bad stuff. Japan they burn it all and making electricity to built Yamahas, which in turn, rule the dunes. So their is some good to it after all.
  7. We can't say their is any good food in Baker. The Mad Greek is nothing like when the old man ran it. Filthy too. Everything else in Baker is pretty bad as well. Most of the stores have items beyond their freshness dates except the store at the Jack in the Box. Best off going into Pahrump. Even the Wall Mart snack counter has better food than Baker.
  8. Geeze Pete, Have a sense of humor. The rooster is brown BTW, and it's leaving the thread is the idea. Not struttin' his stuff. Chill out.
  9. Middle son has grown outta his Honda 90 and it's either a Zuki 250 or the Honda 250 quads. Any major differences? The Suzukis are easy starting and warm up. The Hondas pretty cold blooded. Should the best price be the judge other than that? We understand Honda up'd the 250's HP a year ago and they run pretty good. Any takes?
  10. Oh of course. We'll be watching it from behind a 4x4 windshield from now on. Wouldn't miss it for anything.
  11. Yep, accidents incidences have to be up. Other than a quiet run to the little dunes, or to comp to watch, no nite riding for us at Dumont.
  12. Yeah, their's a gadget that you attach to the cable and it allows you to flush the cable with wd 40. All kinds of crud comes out. My Banshee riding friends do it all the time with this particular device,, and it would probably be the way to go with any quad. Rocky Mountain or Berts may sell the gadget. Saw it advertised the other day, I'll post it if I can remember where.
  13. We arrived at the Dumont Tuesday 11 PM. The road in was brutally bad. Everyone seemed to start arriving Friday and it got pretty packed. First time I've seen big groups on the flats to the little dunes (AKA the suns anvil ). Heavy winds before dawn Wednesday left the dunes clean and ready for a nice riding day. It's been one year Duning with the new wife so I bought her a new KFX 700 pictured above just minutes before we left. Some big performance improvements for '07 on an already good performing quad. The wife loves it. It's what she asked for, but didn't care about color.. Brutally powerfull. The new '07 stock exhaust sounds Harley/Corvette like. I asked several girls at Berts what color they would chose of all the floor models and they all said get her the Black Marble Metalflake. Ron Seidner, owner of Berts stopped by our camp for a spell. Didn't seem as crowded as Thanksgivings past, but far more camp racers. Used to be strictly enforced, no more. At 2:00 pm Sat afternoon very bad accident near the top of Comp hill. From the base looked like two buggies hit, but that's just speculation hard to tell with all the assisting parked, duners about. Bought son a new Suzuki 90 and it's a real dune performer with Scat Trax Glider paddles. Does 45 mph outta the box. Letter to Santa for North Pole Trip Maynard at Competition Hill on his Zuki 90. After a fun days ride on the dunes. No more Holidays, we'll be camping at a less crowded dunes next Holidays.
  14. Cheapest we've ever found is Home Depot.
  15. I heard ya gotta wear a big, thick, Red Scat Track rubber. The girls decide who'll they'll let touch them,, and the mgt is quick to evict those who don't listen.
  16. The Only Honda Dealer out in this neck of the woods that sells Honda watercraft is dropping their PWC's. They say it's because Honda wants their PWC dealers to be exclusive Honda only. Doesn't make sense. All the Honda dealers far and near around here carry several different lines. I'm wondering if Honda is really dropping PWC's altogether? Kawasaki really re-took the high performance PWC market this year. Honda PWC's have been re-call prone. I remember when Honda dropped the Pilot the word was they were waiting to get the excess inventory sold from the warehouse before the next model came out. Can't believe anything. Hate to see any competition leave the market.
  17. Lite. paddles,, headed for action. These little new Z90's are steamers right outta the box.
  18. Could be the circuit board. That's might be. Is it a Bryan/Day & Nite /Carrier/Payne? If so, theirs an LED flashing on the board , and a code chart on the inside of the door that will tell you what the problem is. But,,,, and this is a big but: if it's the circuit board,, it'll give a false code or multible false code readings,, so don't attempt a fix yourself. Could be a number of other things too. Most generic Carrier type units eventually go south like this. Needs a tech to determine the cause. Not that much $$ to fix if it is. The newer boards are improved over the old. The first place I look is the tstat, then onto the board with a complaint like this. Don't do-it-yourself. Ya don't want to attempt to fix that yourself, it's very important with Gas ya let the tech do it.
  19. We use it when the dunes get blown out, or in route. The kids asked us not to get involved, and we'll get a ps3 when the bugs are fixed and they are available to plain ol customers later on in the year. In the meantime, well just lump it with other fun things. The whole ps3 ordeal is nutz. Geeze,, it's the tube. "That Vast wasteland called television" - TV inventor Philo T. Farnsworth (philco)
  20. Both of you report to my trailer and,, (continue the story without finishing it)
  21. What's the deal on KTM's? Are they competitive performance wise with state of the sport Rice burners? See them at the dunes all the time, but the blue bikes always seem to be faster. Interesting company KTM. They build quite a line of bikes. A euro bike biz in a world dominated by the Rice Burners. Unique would be a good word. We're going to give their quad a good long look when it comes out would like to know more about the stuff they now make. Did some of their 4 stroke models have over heating problems? What are your takes on KTM's.
  22. That method sounds interesting. Ya have a good chance of a sandstorm or brutal rains,, and that would mess up you operation real quick I would guess but worth a try. At the dunes it's usually: The Peanut oil fryers (oil and fryer avail cheap at Home Depot) or: Some families get the ready made dinner at the grocery store and bring it or: Turkey breast because it's all that will fit in an tiny RV oven. Pre-cook everything at home and warm and serve at the dunes. Go to the T day Buffet at Stateline or Parump.
