First weekend in October, I'm getting the hauler to the house, unloading everything and getting it all dialed in. 12 years going to the dunes and I'm finally getting things in order long before the first trip..go figure. I'm hoping for a Halloween trip, but depending on what everyone wants to do, it may have to be the kick-off and an off weekend, which is what I'm planning for this season.

In my opinion and that's what it is, the Government saw an opportunity to step in and offer the largest insurer in the world and sweet azz deal, as long as the Government was able to get a 79.9% stake in the company. Now, WaMU is in the same boat as Lehman and WaMU, but Wells Fargo and CitiGroup are stepping up to buy WaMU. Why didn't the Government step in there? Why not Lehman? I think it's because they decided that bailing out AIG wouldn't give another company the opportunity to get to them first. It's our tax dollars that bailed that company out. Couldn't $85 billion dollars do a lot more by pumping it into the economy and not buying stake in a company ready to go belly up? I see the advantage to keeping a company like AIG up and running due to the impact it would have had on the economy Worldwide, but do we go further in debt to help out? I don't have a major in economics or any other related field that makes me close to an expert, but I'd like to know why someone would think raising the taxes to bail out the economic mess we are in is "Patriotic?" I found this article and honestly, I find it a little disturbing that a VP candidate would offer up this solution to get us out of the economic mess that we are facing. Does this guy "Get It?" I think not. I love this quote, "It's time to be patriotic..time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut." How about it's time for the Government to stop spending needlessly on BS and bailing out companies that should have known better in the first place. 2008 is starting to look more like the 1980's. September 1, 2005, my wife and I basically took in a family that fled New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina went through. Since then, that family has become a very good family friend and my daughters are best friends with their daughter. Almost 3 years to the day, New Orleans is preparing to be hit yet again by a massive hurricane that will test the limits of their levees and will. The family I am speaking of left there with the clothes on their backs and their truck, nothing else. Please keep the residents of that state in your thoughts as they try and deal with what appears to be more devastation to come.

You got me, the lead vehicle was a Chevy for sure with all the same gizmos on the dash that the undercover trucks did.

I was driving 215 west this afternoon and came upon 5 full size trucks towing trailers. 4 of the trucks were covered in black material and the other was a Chevy 2500. Every truck in the line up had computers hooked up on the dash. Everyone of them were from Michigan towing trailers with plates that said Loan. Here's a photo I snapped of one of them.

My wife and I have talked about this in depth and came to the conclusion that we will continue to dune, but we are going to be a little more concious about our purchases, i.e food and stuff. The diesel, yes it's high, but in the big picture I may spend an extra $100 per trip, seeing that my truck is the only thing that consumes (or destroys) diesel. Her Yukon, although not the best on gas mileage, gets about 400 miles out of a tank with a fill up of $115.00. The kids love the dunes, I love the dunes, my wife (now that her Rhino is done) loves the dunes. I will cut back on other things in order to off-set the prices of fuel and food. Did I say I can't wait for October? Be safe!
