We have been going back and forth on it but it is looking like the 7th or 14th of November As for food, there is a good Italian pizza restaurant in the center so Smokin Al's would not be allowed as this is not only for duners getting together and getting good deals on gear but we are also promoting the businesses in the center.

You can put them in my area Mush right next to the ones I have. Nice thing is everybody should be able to walk around, buy a cup a coffee, look over everybody's stuff, get a flyer for the poker run etc.

just because the 215 freeway is well lit would you drive down it at midnight without headlights or taillights? Probably not because A. it would be dangerous for you and others on the road. B. probably not cause you might be stopped by the POPO FOR DISOBEYING THE LAW. Nothing different about the rules at Dumont. Course that's just my opinion.

Talked to the landlord today about having a swap meet/garage sale of motorcycle/ATV?sand car parts and gear. We think that everybody has extra parts, pieces etc of stuff cluttering up the garage and our rigs. It would be held in the parking lot of the Commons at seven hills maybe around mid September on a Saturday morning. No charge to sell or get a space. It will be first come first serve on spaces. No cars, quads or bikes for sale only parts and gear. Any body be interested in this type of event?

I talked to John at RC transmissions on polaris about rebuilding my Fox shocks. He gave me a quote of $84.00 each.

I thought I heard tears falling this morning. Sorry to see you get rid of that car. You were just getting the hang of driving it!

I just saw a pair of 5 point Simpsons in a Rzr S. They were the new D3 models that you only have to put 3 loops together instead of 5. They come with a chest fastner too. Nice set up. The next time I change out belts I am going to those for ease of use.

Yep small business owners have no shame or money either!

It would be nice if some of you were coming from the Hendo/Green valley part of town that you stop by and get a nice ICE COLD FROLATTE's in one of 28 flavors! With an extra shot of expresso it will help you get your party started or at least keep you awake till you get there! On St. Rose heading to the I15 turn right on Seven Hills and make the first rightr turn, go past my shop and make a right and big rigs can pull in front of the empty shops there. Make a turn after getting something cold and be right back out on seven Hills dr to St. Rose Anybody that comes by with toys on a trailer or pulling a trailer (toy trailer) gets an extra shot of expresso in any medium or large drink you purchase. Thanks! Have fun and be safe, Summer dunes are a lot different than what you may be used to. Let's not have any incidents!! Terry

I order direct from them when I bought my belts for the rhino. You will need a cross bar that the upper belts can attach to. I got mine at Fergison Fab and am very happy with it. Here are the links; http://www.fergfab.com/RNCages.aspx http://www.crowenterprizes.com/Pages/Products.html

It's on this site and if you search for it you will find out who posted the pic. I will let everybody know on the next meeting as soon as I know. Because of the restructuring of the TRT to a "sub-group" we haven't firmed up a few things yet. I will keep you informed as I find out but I would expect a meeting before the season starts but probably not going to be a Sat. meeting

Also the demographics of this forum, in general, is much, much younger than I am. I am just sharing an old mans views!! I know where your coming from on that

Bruce, I appreciate the questions. It would be easist if you search this site for BLM and or Dumont TRT or Freinds of Dumont Dunes (FoDD). After reading all the posts you may see where your money goes and the things we try to get accomplished. If you have any questions after that I or someone on here would be glad to answer them for you. Terry

It's not that the equipment is not available. BLM already has the front end loader that was used and is out there all season. It stems from a liability issue plain and simple. BLM is not a sand moving nor a towing company. If you go off road you take your chances just like Vegas Style said in his post. The BLM will have someone who will stock and clean the bathrooms in Don and Ellen's place. Will it cost more? I don't think so for the short run as we won't be funding the salary that Don and Ellen both received nor transporting water, propane etc out to them. Yes it will be nice to find someone who cares about the dunes like they did and I don't think that will be that difficult. If I remember right BLM had a few applications for the position over the last couple of years. Government has lot's of rules about equipment (along with everything else) and the operator would have to be BLM certified in operating the machine and doing any road maintenance. This costs money as does everything associated with something that is in the middle of no where. As to the heli pad and concrete that was grant money and I have to agree that's it's overkill but that is the way grant $$ work. Although if your ever in the medical trailer waiting on a helicopter transport I am sure you will appreciate the concrete path to the copter instead of the rocky dirt one used to move you to the heli pad:) The Sheriffs transport and per diem for rooms and meals is paid directly from the user fees although with some of the grants we got this year they may supplement this but I will have to wait for a meeting to find out. Call Ken @ Johnny Walkers at the bldr. store near flamingo.

Yes Bruce I am telling you that all funds collected are spent for Dumont. Wether it's personnel, equiptment etc. it's all spent there. As soon as I hear what's up with the sub group I will announce it. Questions are; A) Who's on the Sub Group B) When will be the next meeting be I do know it will be in Barstow and I don't know if I have been selected as Nevada's OHV rep yet. There maybe someone else who gets to get involved :ah:
-
Bruce, I am unfamiliar with any money that is missing. The TRT has kept a close eye on the budget and P&L for fee dollars since it's inception. The only $ that were missing ended up being found by the TRT and used to widen the river crossing. Could you explain what dollars you speak of? Also the fee money has been spent at Dumont and nowhere else. That is a federal law that the funds collected must be spent at the fee site. If you would like to attend the next Sub Group meeting I will let you know when it is as soon as the new group members are set and the meeting time is also set. Yes it was 25 years ago but there were never any bathrooms, concrete river crossing, rangers patrolling, EMT's and ambulances. If you had an accident someone had to drive to Tecopa and use a pay phone to get help. Quite different now wouldn't you say?

I don't want to get into a battle here but yes I have flexed the policy for a customer. It's my business and I get to make thosae decisions. If an employee decides to make exceptions to the rules than it's my decision to allow it or to warn them not to do it again. If I had an employee that was warned twice don't think they would have a third chance. Bye-Bye. Cold as that may sound when I got stuck I went to Don and Ellen's camp but they were out on vacation but a BLM employee was there. He told me that he could not use the tractor for that purpose due to liability issues and that it was not there for that purpose. End of story I called A licensed, insured tow service. Just as the Nascar guys should have done in the first place. Borrowing a part or getting gas is one thing but using a several thousand dollar tractor that they had been told not to use for that purpose twice before is certainly cause for seperation of employment. As for the road we can get back to it anytime but I can tell you that the money was as well spent as we could do as it is 50 miles from nowhere. I will also tell you that the road now even in it's worst shape is better than it was over the 25 years I had been going there before they did the asphalt grindings. As it is this a place in the middle of nowhere, it's not a National Park it is a designiated OHV recreation area. It has to be maintained to that use. If you take a motorhome and trailer in and you get stuck you either get pulled out by friends with trucks or you call a tow service. Why? Because in this sue happy world we live in what do you think a lawyer would do to the BLM having counseled an employee twice and then the employee does what they want anyway and someone gets hurt. I guarantee this was a liability issue and thats the result. Actually as far as having someone with a so called hard on fo them I am not privy to that but don't believe that to be the case, I believe this was just an employee violating the company rules after being warned at least twice about a similar problem. As a company owner and as a user of the dunes I have to agree that it was neccassary. That being said I think and have always thought that Don and Ellen provided a great service but remember they were paid a wage and supplied with water, propane and lots of other things from user fees. Will we find a replacement, good question, I f I could do it I would but times not right for me yet. Maybe down the line I wouldn't mind being out in my favorite place 24/7 but I would have to have race gas provided as part of my salary:)
-
Unfortuneatly Don and Ellen had been warned twice about violations of policy. They were well aware of wht they were doing and someone not posted a pic they may have gotten away with it. But it happened and it goes to show that anything posted on the internet can come back and smack you or someoone else! As for the tow service ISBB, yeah I know all about those guys!!

I don't believe that we will not see another volunteer out there. It is an easy gig for retired folks and you should see the amount of Fulltimer's that hunt for this kind of position. Also remember that there are two sides to what is said about them, the side that they want to give and the side that is supposed to have said it. It always gets lost in translation. I believe there is a tow service out of Baker that will come and pull you out with a backhoe for around $500.00 and I do believe the Nascar guys could have afforded that? Money is wasted everywhere, your house, my house and espically at the goverment house. We can b*tch about it or stay involved and do what we can to protect it as well as we can.
-
Politics are something that goes with goverment, always has always will. I am still amazed at the amount of politics that go into the Barstow office and the TRT AKA Dumont Sub-Group. It is certainly amazing to watch the ivory towers and the slow grinding wheel that is goverment. I know I was taken aback when I first got selected to the TRT. It is a non paying no power or control only suggestions gig and still there was so much BS that I wasn't sure i could deal with it. After awhile you kinda get numb and do what you can to help our cause. As to SANDAWG'S statements, while the BLM is not perfect, they do understand that Dumont is a cash flow and they have spent the money at the TRT's suggestions pretty wisely in my opinion. They have spent other money in ways that I would not have but it was not fee dollars so we have no say in it. This website has more impact then you think on what happens at Dumont for both sides and Pete get's a huge pat on the back for spending the time and money to get it done. As for the "missing EZ Up I don't know of any "extra's" that the board would have as we are dealing with EZ up right now to buy 2 of them so we don't have to borrow. I am truly sorry if it was not returned and will ask the other BOD members if they have it or know of someone who may be holding onto it for safekeeping. This is the first we have heard about it to be straight up. As for Don and Ellen I did talk to them on several occasions and they were always recognized by FoDD and the BLM at the last 6 clean ups. I know they were appreciated by us and the BLM but if your told not to do something by your employer and you do it anyway then who's fault is it? The "no pictures should be taken" quote should be enough to show they knew it was outside guidelines when they pulled the semi out. Let's take it to the opposite side and say the tow chain/strap whatever snaps as they sometimes do and the driver of the semi gets cut in half. Who do you think is going to get sue'd, Don & Ellen or the BLM? This is why rules are given out and since someone just had to post a picture of it,that was the nail that sealed the coffin. Not much more I can say, I will miss seeing them but as an earlier post said change can be could maybe we will end up better off who know, only time will tell? Terry

I cannot get into the details of the past but Don and Ellen created a lot of their own problems. There were incidents in the past and apparently the last one broke the camels back so to say. Will we as users of Dumont be hurt by this? Yes maybe for awhile till they are replaced or we just get used to someone not being there as it always has been in the past. The interaction of the Blm with Don and Ellen was better than they say and it was a sad thing to see them use one side of BLM against the other. I am not defending BLM but any employer has to do what they have to do. Wether you want to call them volunteers or not they were BLM employees and have to abide by the rules set down by that enity. I to am sorry to see them go but sometimes change is good. We will wait and see.

Now all you need is some good fresh coffee to put in that bad boy. Make sure your using RO or bottled water also it makes a big difference depending on your water quality in Bako!
