First, we did the Boulder City Veterans Memorial Park thing. We grabbed a blanket, a cooler, and some snacks and headed to meet some friends at the grass field for some entertainment and fireworks. Good times. :idiot:

nice pics pete! i forgot my tri-pod so i got the wavy firework shots, but still had a great time, also did the boulder city thing, we posted up on the golf course and watched from there. we spent the weekend at the lake so, it was a quik trip into town then back out to the water. the wind on saturday was a little much to take the boat out, so we hung out in the slip and had a great day. my 2 year old decided she was gangster enough to go down the slide into the lake (the drop from the slide to the water is about 3 times her height) so i was proud papa. haha

We left for Temple Bar Marina around 8:30 am. Crossing the Dam was a breeze... only two boats ahead of us at the dock, that's busy LOL. Spent 6-7 hrs on the water and did the usual tube a knee board thing. But this was the first time wakeboarding. They all did great!!!!! I'm so proud of them getting up on there first time out. Jake was up the longest at about 2 minutes before wiping out.. I got yelled at for towing too fast or too slow ha ha ha, new to me too... All in all it was a perfect day. The resturant at the marina has the best philly cheesesteak to end the day in air conditioning... I'm getting hooked on that side of the lake for family trips, even on busy weekends it seems you have the lake to yourself.... After putting the boat back in the water cause I hooked it up wrong (duh) we then came home and let the kids light there fireworks off in the street while sitting back having a few cold ones!!!!!!!!

Thanks Justin. :D Actually these were all taken hand held. I wished I had the tripod, but 50% of them came out pretty decent just holding the camera really still while laying on my side.

Well mine aren't 4th of July but they are fireworks none the less. I went down to Seaworld and took pictures of the show.

I read a trick on how to shoot fireworks and it seemed to work pretty good. It's called the "hat method" I set the camera for a long exposure (20 seconds) and I covered the lense (I used my hand) when I don't want to let light in, and when I do, simply move my hand. The pictures with multiple shells going off was shot using that method. Iso was 200 and focus was set to infinity.

Too bad the wind wasn't helping out with the smoke, no breeze at all.

Nice pics BPG...how long would you remove your hand for?....mine were shot with a 30 sec exposure and it almost didn't have enough light ... Did you have a really low apeture set?

I use Photoshop to make the watermark logo, but then my gallery automatically embeds the watermark when I upload them. You can still do it manually in Photoshop. Just create a layer on top of the photo and place or create your logo there. You can choose teh opacity should you decide you want it transparent or not.

Good job Tim! Pretty cool pics. I have read about that method before, but never had the chance to give it a try. It's a pretty good idea.

30 second exposure and still not enough light!? :thumb: What size aperature lens was it?

For night shots you want that aperature wide open as far as it will go.

here is the info I pulled off one of my pictures-

Shooting Date/Time 7/8/2009 9:52:44 PM

Owner's Name

Shooting Mode Shutter-Priority AE

Tv( Shutter Speed ) 8

Av( Aperture Value ) 3.5

Metering Mode Evaluative Metering

Exposure Compensation -1/3

ISO Speed 200

Auto ISO Speed OFF

Lens 19-35mm

Focal Length 19.0 mm

Image Size 4752x3168

Image Quality Fine

Flash Off

FE lock OFF

White Balance Mode Auto

AF Mode Manual focusing

Picture Style User Defined 1(Standard)

Sharpness 5

Contrast 2

Saturation 3

Color tone 1

Color Space sRGB

Long exposure noise reduction 0:Off

High ISO speed noise reduction 0:Standard

Highlight tone priority 0:Disable

Auto Lighting Optimizer 0:Standard

File Size 1556 KB

Drive Mode High-speed continuous shooting

Live View Shooting OFF

I put my hand infront of the lense till a shell was launched, I kept my hand away till I wanted to stop the action of the burst. It's kind of trial and error on that. Plus guessing on how long to do it without missing a good one.

thanks for ALL the info....after looking at your pics more I realized you had way more ambient light helping you....Brianhead was pitch black until the firework exploded so it was pretty much the only light source...

Pete, I was using SP and let the camera select aperture Ill have to do what BP just did and see what it auto chose...

maybe I should have used AP instead and let it select shutter might have been a better route to go...still learnin...love it!
