  1. My 12v are hooked up like in the diagram. I doubt if it makes a difference how they are wired, the results are the same. The jumpers from + to + and - to - are the same gauge as the trailers power wires. Smaller cables = more resistance. With the 12v batts hooked in parallel, power will be drawn from the stronger of the two. The 6v batts work together and charge together. Remember, batteries require maintenance. I remove them from the trailer and add water if needed and put each on a float charger between trips. Checking the charge with a hydrometer before each trip will tell if they are good to go. Avoid plugging in the trailer when stored to keep the batts charged. UNLESS you are sure the power transformer in the trailer has a charge regulator to protect from overcharging. Most trailers charge at a constant rate and will boil off the electrolyte, damaging the battery. They will last a long time if cared for. Never trust your trucks charging system to charge the batteries when you drive! It has alot more to worry about before it gets to the trailer. It's great to have a good generator and good batteries, but, I'd rather have a dead generator and good batteries than a good generator and dead batteries!
  2. I had Carlisles (load range D) on my TH when new. One separated after 1000 miles and would have shredded if I didn't notice it at a stop. A shredding tire can cause alot of damage! After checking into Carlisle's reputation, or lack of, I investigated trailer tires and determined Greenballs were the ticket. Replaced all the carlisles with load range E Greenballs and have never had an issue. I did keep the best Carlisles for spares. I carry two spares for the 3 axle TH. Hopefully I never need them. America's Tire carries both Carlisle and Greenball. Same price.
  3. At 2mph w/controlled turns? 52 mph w/controlled turns! Faster is better!
  4. Why cant them rear engine long travels do that?!
  5. A brake squeak is caused by vibration. (as are all noises) The trick is to eliminate the vibration. I have had good reslults with the spray disc brake quiet. Be sure the pads are a high quality. You get what you pay for. check for a snug fit in the pad to guide area. If the pad moves around after mounted then there is a problem. Check that all parts are installed and oriented properly. If the rotors have a spiral finish (like an old school record album) the pad follows the spiral then jumps back, causing a squeak. These are all issues with automotive brakes. Gear one appears to not offer single piston setups anymore. Might want to call them and see what they say.
  6. Prepare for anything. Haulers may come with a spare but no jack or tools. I carry two spares because Three axles, 6 tires, and a second flat would suck. If you are a neat freak or close to it, get a bus and enclosed trailer. Having the upgrade upholstery wont matter after a few trips with toys. use staingard spray. If you can have the tie down rings placed where you want, plan your loading before they install. If you can live w/o the hi/lo bed in the rear, dont get it, It is a pain if you dont use it and storing stuff in it can cause issues. can add more cabinets if it isnt there! We like the "tent" wall at the ramp opening Outside speakers! Black tank flush cleaner attached to the tank. no hoses in the trailer! Check how many gallons of water are left at each sensor level. We Have 120 gal tank and it has 60 gals at 1/3 full (2/3 empty) per gauge. Good to know if you use water like at home. Remember, you will dent, scratch, etc when loading toys once in a while. If anyone has never done it, they are a liar. No diamond plate on the ramp! looks cool, slippery as hell! Also, you need to load up the stuff you unload when you leave. Just keep in mind all the stuff that takes a day or two to unload, setup and enjoy, usually gets packed up in a few hours. Not the funnest thing. Its fun to pack to go to dumont etc, but sucks to pack to leave. Because you have to unpack it again to clean everything! Just my 2 cents,(if that)!
  7. We spent some time looking for a plate for our trailer. Most of the obvious ones were taken. We decided on TOIZGLR (toys galore). Anyway, Think outside the box for a plate. Use numbers that look like letters. (8/B) If you can use symbols to replace a word etc. Just dont use NV (envy) Its lame. TYHLR2NV. Hey, I like that! Disregard the lame statement! NOT!
  8. It sounds like you might already know wht toyhauler you are getting. It may be a good idea to get the basic rv stuff first then when you get the hauler you can check your storage for the "luxury" items after you have loaded up the food, clothes, towels, tp, cooking and eating utensils, foil, plastic wrap, ziploc bags etc. I have to tell the wife that we don't need this or that because of room/weight issues. We have learned on every trip that we need to not bring something or bring something. Remember to make room for what you will need, THEN, start with the other stuff. Just my 2 cents.
  9. Problem: Polaris trailboss 330 can't climb a large dune to save anyones life. Wife has arm issues and can't ride too long using a clutch. Wants dune climbing power, Auto trans, and a cush ride. Oh yeah, 4-stroke. Trying to find a 2-stroke 400 polaris but may find it difficult to get into some Cali riding areas. Looking at a Can-am. Any suggestions, recommendations? Thanks!
  10. Looking for inexpensive driver/passenger communication system. Is there such a thing other than the $1000+ setups? Thanks!
  11. The wife gives me shlt because the JD flag is bigger than the American flag, which is above the JD flag.
  12. Probably not for everyone, but, I saw a jeep wrangler that had the keypad opener that you put by the door in his rig. Good idea, kinda big and awkward. If it gets stolen, the aholes have up to 10,000 tries to open the door.
  13. Thanks for the info! Who makes the implements and where to get em'?
  14. How much heavier are the implements than smoothees or the vipers? Need tubes? Thanks
  15. I would like to get single rib tires for the front. I have STU 4.50x15 smoothees now. Would like a little more control when turning in sand. (duh) Anyway, I have seen a tire called "sand viper" and just wondering if anyone has any experience with them or have a suggestion. I am not thrilled about putting farm implement tires on. I would think they are heavy. Anyway, it seems that the choices are few and far between for a rib tire this size. I would appreciate any info.
  16. Drool on these pics! http://www.dankat.com/swhikes/kelsod.htm
  17. A lot of people fill w/water at the Volero in Baker. Get ice and can dump garbage and waste tanks as well. I have never seen a pismo like "yo banana boy" at Dumont. Or even a waste tank pump truck. Baker is only 35 miles from the dunes. Most will bring extra water as well. Even in a standard rv, that has smaller fresh and waste water tanks, can last a 4 day stay W/O problems. If you conserve. Have fun dunin'!
  18. This site seems to have a more detailed "correct" harness install instructions. http://www.gforce.com/pdf/harnessinstall.pdf I appreciate any input that is safety related. Especially from someone who has experience at frame/cage fabrication, and races as well. I took my buggy's "cage" as safe. I did know the seat belt mounts behind the seats were incorrect. I now know different about the "cage". I will add some reinforcements and relocate the harness mounts before next trip.
  19. I suppose I am prepared for almost anything: Flashlight, pliers (2), screwdrivers (3), tow strap, v-belt, exhaust nuts/bolts/gasket, other size nuts/bolts, wheel lug nuts, electrical tape, hose clamps, nut drivers and wrenches in the most likely sizes, extra batteries for gps or flashlight, fuses, zip ties, plumbers tape, couple of shop towels, TOILET PAPER, electrical wire, wire nuts, adjustable wrench, FIRST AID KIT, at least one bottle of water, knife, allen wrench for spindle nuts, hose connectors. I think thats about it. fits into a 50 cal ammo box that does double duty as a passenger foot rest. I also carry on my person a swiss army knife and a phone. Gps on the "dash". I was never a boy scout either! Just carry stuff that may prevent needing a tow or help someone else. .
  20. The blaylock DL-80 (what those look like) can be had at Mrlock.com for 40 bucks (plus the added shipping handling tax ebay fees, paypal fees, internet fees, then you probably have to buy keys too) I would probably buy 'em local and put 'em on now for peace of mind then wait ten business days for shipping. I suppose you take them off and put a regular padlock on when you travel.
  21. Thanks to input on this thread and recent events, I have inspected and plan on adding bracing and gussets to my rail, & relocating the seatbelt mounts. (needed to move mounts anyway) I hope everyone inspects their rails anyway for loose bolts, lug nuts, etc regularly. Good info from 1320.
  22. I agree with happyhour! If you go on holiday weekends, be prepared for the aholes and deal with it. You should be ready to dune with your head on a swivel, looking for the next moron or kid to cut you off, and not enjoying the ride. Sounds like fun! watching people leave their trash and stay up all hours buzzing camps drunk off their azz. Being in the mass of rigs trying to leave at the same time. I for one won't be at Dumont on any big holiday weekends, only off-weekends and mid-week trips.
  23. I always take the batteries off the trailer and put them on float chargers. Never had issues. I don't trust the genny to properly charge the batts. You can cook a battery leaving trailer plugged in to shore power (unless you have the switch) Also gives me time to check the electrolyte level and add if needed. My wife likes lights, I like going a week + w/o firing up the genny other than nuking, deep frying, or firing up the compressor. More gas for toys! Just like anything else, batteries will last if you care for 'em.
  24. We had a dog come through our camp that saturday evening around 7. Was headed north. We were camped about 1/4 mile east of outhouse 9. We tried to catch it and even tried to track on quads. We waited for someone to stop by over the next couple days. Saw your note at North pole.
