  1. I think a summer clean up would be an appropriate name and too hot in the day so at night but dark at night so we need some lights ...... anyway, lights are for safety and if lights trigger requirement for permit sounds like a permit for safety equipment and 2 people agreeing on a date in a public forum IS an organized event. Point? Doesn't matter what you say, they will interpret it to fit their mood at the time, sometimes merely an exercise of authority. Lights or not, I need some night photo testing so I'm in. Dunefreak, you take your car or just a quad? Was wondering if Randog would go without the car.
  2. dunefreak is right, usually the idle air mixture screw between the slide and air cleaner side and a throttle stop (idle speed) screw on the side usually centered with the slide. Newer 4-strokes have a idle/low speed fuel screw on the bottom between the slide and head. A rule of thumb is if the screw is between the slide and head it meters fuel and between the slide and air filter meters air. If the little mechanic used a screwdriver and tightened the screw tight it may have distorted the metering surface area of the screw/seat. Usually 1-1/2 (one and a half) turns out will be a start and after warm up adjust it and the throttle/idle stop screw.
  3. This Saturday is the start of the CORR (imagine Trophy Trucks racing motocross) racing season and SPEED channel is airing it LIVE for 2 hours at 12:30PM, Sat. April 26th from the L.A. County fairgrounds in Pomona. I go to Nascar, Indy car, Score off-road races, Supercross etc and the CORR PRO 2 & PRO 4 wheel drive trucks are way more exciting by far, it's like 1 big wreck when the green flag drops. This pic is from 1 of the Chula Vista races last year of Adrian (the "Wildman") Cenni in a 8.5 second roller coaster from hell ride.
  4. I expected the pic was too late, just wanted to get it out there. Dog, after I posted I poked the pic some more but couldn't edit it into that msg. I'll post it where it should be, as soon as I find out where that is
  5. Don't count on the Rhino anymore this season, Don and Ellen are leaving today (21st) and won't be back till October. And heres a thought for anyone hesitant on a Rhino ride out, lets put a stretcher sideways on the back of Randogs car and tell him to drive back in his usual "normal" manner, lol, the physical injuries from your crash will heal but you might need a extended prescription for Prozac after the Dr. Dog Lunatic Limo service.
  6. Since this was from 1977 you might be cautious, the pump gas these days has so many additives (smog) it's difficult to get a "reading" due to the clean burn properties, and it mentions lead deposits so some of the info is prior to 1977 I think. Anyway here is the URL for that site if anyone wants it http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Spark_Plugs_catalog.html, PS, I believe it's referring to 4-stroke plugs too. Here's a site that was updated in '05, it links to the same plug color chart but has an in depth analysis of plugs, and it's a 4-stroke article also. http://www.4secondsflat.com/Spark_plug_reading.html
  7. If it has an emissions label (which is a certificate of compliance, or something of that nature) it is a green sticker vehicle according to one of the two top dog's at CARB (California Air Resources Board)
  8. Pulse coils, like any coil can have a moisture ground that will eventually turn into a carbon track ground, especially if there's been moisture in the side case. Without going into detail how I fixed locomotive electrical devices you can always try baking at about 300 deg 45-60 min and after it cools coat it in slow dry (20-30 minute) epoxy to hermetically seal it. I have rewound stators and even made my own "super stators" and quick dry epoxy fractures from vibration. It won't hurt the coil, if you want just bake it then try it, should be sealed so it will last longer.
  9. My condolences to the family and friends. I left there Tues afternoon and there were only a few small camps there. I've never seen the dunes so hard to read and soft/steep on one side in 34+ years. I past a Firetruck and Ambulance right after I got on the road to baker and was hoping it would pass the turn off. Not much one can really say that matters at this point.
  10. As an addendum to tank draining, you have to crack open all the fausets to completely drain the water, if you don't there's no way to relieve the vacuum you're creating when you open the drain valve. Kinda like the "air gap" thing near/behind the house kitchen sink for the dishwasher. I crack the kitchen hot water faucet and my hot water tank empties when I open the drain valve, has to get air to replace the water from someplace. Oh yeah, same as the vent on your gas cans as another example. Sometimes there a "low point" water drains tucked away in an obscure place too.
  11. The media and authorities aren't allowed to release the names of minors when it relates to an "alleged" crime I believe, that was the point of the prior post, and hell yeah they knew what they were doing, they used a grinder on the VIN #'s, a couple of cork soakers if you ask me.
  12. I have to admit I have whined in the past for 1 dumpster basically for the trash I pick up after the weekends (and there is way more than you think once you start picking it up for a day or two and it's only a slight dent) and my home dumpster can't keep up. I guess I thought "I would use the dumpster before littering so why wouldn't they use it?" but after a little more thought I realize that's naive. What everyone is saying about dumpsters is the same for bathrooms, roads and anything else that makes it easier to get here and stay here. If 1 person approaches a camp with an obvious litter problem he will probably be ignored or threatened but if a short distance outside their camp but visable was a couple dozen dudes for "moral support" one might get the point across about litter and bottles, cans and nails in firepits. WE have to do something different to get a result different than the other places, or I'm going to need alot more Dumont peeps with bags a trash tweezers to help. Some say "the trash situation doesn't seem that bad"....... well, it kills me seeing it now because I remember there being NO TRASH. The cans and bottles were a lot heavier comeing in with liquid etc, seems packing them out empty would be easy.
  13. They were asleep so it was late Sat nite or early Sun morning. If I can get the names or address of the thieves I'll post, but they were minors so they're not too generous with info .....
  14. A friend had 2 CR250Fs stolen Sat night the 28th and were recovered, was the following Tues I believe, in Pahrump. An anonymous tip led authorities to two boys, age 15 and 17. They had used a grinder to remove the serial #s and had blown 1 of the CRFs up. If you had something stolen from Dumont that weekend or from anywhere near Pahrump recently maybe these 2 might know something or the PD might be able to help, anyway just for your information.
  15. No matter what engine that's water cooled, add some "Bars Leak" or equivalent, ethylene glycol, or any other synthetic alcohol has no lubrication properties at all and the seals wear fast and even deposit seal material on the pump shaft without some sort of lubricant. Nothing new, the '87 to '92 LT 250 and 500 factory service manuals say that these quads were shipped from the factory with "Bars Leak" added. I use water pump lube in my diesel pusher, truck, quads and, don't laugh cause it works, squirt a GL5 synthetic oil UP the weep hole, my Cummins water pump was a little sticky to rotate when changing the belt so shot some up there and it smoothed out and was 55k miles ago so it didn't hurt it at least.
  16. Whatever they want to call the fee ....it's still the same, the point about the "hikers not being charged a fee" ...... what do you think would happen if you parked before the Dumont entrance and walked past the people collecting the "use fee", would they stop you and ask for the fee? Not saying I agree or disagree about the hikers and fees but was just putting to words my perspective of how the powers that be separate the type of "use" that we typical Dumont users pay a fee for vs. the hikers. And another interesting point ie the comment about how the hiking trails had all kinds of trash, etc., well there's a fee charged at Dumont now and there is more trash than ever.... so I guess to assume a fee will help reduce the litter will make an a$$(out of)u(&)me. oops, you didn't hear that from me 'cause I'm not one to gossip. Dang, I'm getting senile I think.
  17. The fee we pay at Dumont isn't for riding quads, bikes or driving the rails, it's like a parking fee for the vehicle that transported you and the toys. Lake Silverwood by my home base charges by the vehicle, if you park outside you can ride a bicycle in and fish or whatever, no fee.
  18. ynot.... you know your stuff, even about the camp host "volunteers" that are under contract :mc_smiley:
  19. It seems everyone is on 1 side of the fence or the other about the fees and I can see the point about the "other camp grounds fees" and the "bowling" and "Nascar" fees ...... so why isn't the trash situation addressed like those other fee places? I know... I'm beetching and didn't go to a TRT meeting but I do pick up hundreds of pounds of trash that is building up at home because my dumpster isn't big enough. Regardless of how high or low the fees it seems that would be one of the first considerations on how the fees are spent, either collect the trash or collect fees from citations for littering for the additional revenue for a dumpster. 34 years of going to Dumont and in the last few years its worse everytime. And for the silent ones in the camps that trash and burn cans bottles and nails, speak up, you wimpy bunch of sheeple. It's your dunes too, is there anyone that ignorant that doesn't know this stuff or just nobody mentions it to them? My rant is finished, time for DDDDC (ACDC)!
  20. Lots of interesting points and opinions but can anyone explain the money and how it "is being used at Dumont and for the betterment of the area and it's users"? Betterment of the area? I'm going out on a limb probably but how about something wild and crazy like ..... 1 trash dumpster, I apologize for being unreasonable and selfish but would be nice to put the other fee paying duners trash they left behind in something else besides my trailer. Betterment of the users? Educate the the people that leave the trash and those that throw cans, bottles and wood with nails in their campfire with a citation and fine for littering. If preserving Dumont isn't enough for the powers that be maybe the citation revenue might help. Anyone just at Dumont this last weekend? I don't remember ever seeing more trash ..... and when was the cleanup? Maybe some people are making sure they get their monies worth.
  21. Wondering where the $ is going? Maybe the new command/dounut lounge trailer had something to do with it.
  22. the link didn'twork for me but copy shortcut did. copy this and paste this if anyone still wants to, lol
  23. Right click the link then click "copy shortcut" and paste it in the address window of Internet explorer and click "go". And if you look close there are 2 vinagaroons (or camel spiders, whatever) and look closer and you can see the soldier dudes hand and the end of the needle nose pliers of his Leatherman Supertool. A closeup with a lens less than a 50mm equivalent will distort the perspective, but you didn't here this from me cause I'm not 1 to gossip
  24. uuuhhh, If one of those spiders bite you on the toe ..... would it give you camel toe?
