  1. It's probably a good chance the thieves live or know somebody close, maybe seen some DDR stickers on a vehicle or trailer at their house. I've had 2 attempts at thefts at my house and each 1 was from friends of 2 different neighbors 3-4 houses away. I know for sure because 1 neighbor confessed after tasting the business end of a Sig 45 and tracked the other purp to a house that I had seen the same truck as mine parked before, must have needed xtra parts. It was the daughters boyfriends truck and the mother agreed that he better never come around again, she had heard of the other neighbors Sig tasting. They stole a rail and what other forum has more rail/Dumont related traffic?
  2. Nevermind the text msgs, here's a Christmas card for all the DDR peeps
  3. a 5 point harness in the front is the best insurance for the knees. Yes, I'm ranting again but can't help it. Just noticed this..... this is how a guy died after rolling his rail and not injured. As the rail was being towed up and over the top of a bowl the tow strap dug into the sand then when the front wheels cleared the crest the frame was pulled into the sand, had a thin aluminum floor, the floor peeled back under the car, pegged the throttle and launched out of the bowl, passed the tow vehicle with the guy screaming, his legs dragging UNDER the rail and his chest smashed against the steering wheel till he ran out of tow strap slack. At that point the rail snaps a 180, nearly rolling the tow rail, then starts rolling across the face of the dune below the tow rail, hanging from the tow strap like a pendulum on a grandfather clock, with the guy halfway out of the TOP of the rail, 4-5 times the rail rolled over him. BESIDES THE "NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE" STUCK WIDE OPEN THROTTLE THIS IS ANOTHER GOOD REASON TO HAVE A KILL SWITCH CLOSE AND EASY TO HIT WITH A HAND! The best is a big pull and twist to run/ push (slap) to stop, and always belt up, but just my opinion
  4. Hope I'm not out of line here and intuition isn't 100% but if the persons responsible for this happen to be reading this thread and value their freedom and not into pain I would advise you to take the trailer and all the contents somewhere and then call the number on this thread to return it to the owners, this is your only out at this point.
  5. Unless you're on a main rd I'd be willing to bet whoever stole it knows somebody living close to you. They're on their way to their friends house and notice the trailer, and I'm guessing no hitch lock, watch or ask friends when you're there and BAM. If you find who did it and after everything quiets down get some stainless wirefeed wire, roll under their vehicles, wrap the wire around their elect wire harness and attach the other end to their ujoints or transaxle..... 1 of my favorites, and therapeutic for you and them :angry2:
  6. wow, must have done alot of downloading to compute those statistics, good work! :clown:
  7. only 1 thing comes to mind .......TRANSFORMER WHEELIEBOT ----> MEGADOGTRON!
  8. almost as good as the pics of your wheelie across the SIDE of a dune on 1rear wheel then the other before an all 4 wheel off the ground lawn darting.... LEFT WHEEL RIGHT WHEEL NO WHEELS FRONT WHEELS
  9. My brother lived in Las Vegas and used his card at some 7-11 type place and they ran his card through some type of scanner when he wasn't looking and had a 300$ charge on his account the next day, it was eventually refunded. It might have changed but I thought you were entitled by law to get 1 free credit report from each of the 3 agencies, then you stagger them 1 every 4 months, but only 1 through annualcreditreport.com, I think you have to do a request directly to the other 2 agencies Anyone know for sure?
  10. The Robbie Renner, tailwhip, Redbull pic is borrowed, Robbie Maddison is mine. I had to be in Chula Vista for CORR testing. My choice was 15 minutes of 2 wheel action or all day 900HP 4000lb trucks bashin and bangin.....hmmm
  11. I was at the Rio last year Dec 29-Jan1 watching and taking pics of Robbie, even videos don't really show how high it is. He jumped farther on Dec 29 & 30, 340+ft , on the 31st there was a head wind. Another freestyler, Robbie Renner did a 59'2" tailwhip July this year at another Redbull event at the Santa Monica pier Rhys was at the Pomona CORR race and stopped by Jerry's pit, he broke 5 vertebrae in trying to back flip that truck, think it was 3 in his neck . The ramp has a kicker at the end, when the front wheels hit it the front of the truck gets launched up, then the kicker is supposed to fall level with the ramp.... his last jump the kicker dropped early. Here's a link to the crash video http://www.wreckedmagazine.com/watchvideo/...eo---full-accid
  12. The axles in the pics I uploaded are being upgraded, some new exotic material, forget the name but check this out, just the material cost for 2 short course truck axles and 2 trophy truck axles ... $10,000.00!!! Here is a composite pic of the short course truck before the axle broke. As for the reason the old axle snapped other than the Rockwell issue I haven't a clue.
  13. Hard to tell by the pics but if it's actually spooled maybe the outside ends of the splines don't have a radius and wore a stress point at the edge of the spline contact. Seen 300M alloy gun drilled axles break clean a few inches away from the splines because of "cyclic fatigue failure due to hydrogen embrittlement" , translated.... sloppy heat treating (quench and temper) and the rockwell hardness up 3-4 points higher than specs. Stock axles are kinda like torsions. You can see in your pics a definite boundry where the hard outer part ends. I've seen diagonal breaks but not splintered like this. Even has a spot that fractured lengthwise. Were you going through some whoops or something that was loading and unloading the wheel with a lot of throttle? 300M gundrilled
  14. It takes you to youtube but says it's a private video and requires an account (username/password) to view
  15. Hope she likes the taste of sand :clown:
  16. just curious, your 91/100 fuel, is the 100 AV gas, aviation?
  17. California State Laws: All operators on public lands are required to wear a helmet at all times. All ATVs are required to be titled and registered with the owner receiving a numbered plate for the ATV. Registration is to be renewed once each year. No one under 18 is to operate an ATV on public land unless they are in possession of a safety certificate or with an adult who possesses a safety certificate. No one under 14 may operate an ATV on public land unless they are in possession of a safety certificate and under the direct supervision of an adult who possesses a safety certificate. No passengers are allowed at any time while on public lands, except one passenger may be carried if the ATV is designed for a passenger. ATVs may not be used on highways, except to cross these highways. All of my Ca off-road regs are good for 2 years, typo?
  18. Pete, I am in to it but the motorhome isn't , coolant in the oil, but should be ret 2 go in a few days. Was thinking (uh-oh ...) Wonder if a short basic "Dumont survival guide" would be of use, what someone would/should tell somebody on their 1st trip into the dunes. Some things seem 2nd nature to seasoned duners, like knowing the bottom can drop out when you're going up a dune with the wind at your back, the sand blows over the crest giving the illusion the hill keeps going or being familiar with a quick engine kill when you have the throttle stick wide open the 1st time in your life. I've seen plenty of medivacs from just those 2 examples. I'm sure everyone can relate to an accident where you think "if only they would have ...!", and those who have passengers or are leading a group have an obligation, acknowledged or not that exceeds their own safety, if you know what I mean. Just a thought.
  19. 1st time Bush ever leaned to the left
  20. Thanks for the extra info Foxy. These guys were lucky actually. The "double fatal" that DuneFreak and I mentioned went over and it was probably 30' deep or more where the rail nosed over and landed upside down. Landing a drop off flat on 4 wheels can compression fracture your lower back and seen long endos knock occupants unconcious and then they beat the hell out of each other with their (unconcious) limp arms, good idea to cross arms and grab shoulder harness and either push a$$ into seat with your feet or pull your legs up close so you don't do the shin/dash thing (depends on the rail, person, etc) 5 points don't seem so bad if you've ever seen a bad crash with a front occupant sitting in foot area, jacket pulled over his head with the lap belt for a headband and arms straight up next to shoulder belts . The sun at the back and smooth sand is kinda like when the 1st 3 wheel ATCs (185s, 250R, etc)came out and everyone that rode 2 wheelers rode them the 1st time either ran over their leg putting a foot down while stopping (motorcycle lizard brain, lol) or told prior about foot down no no and usually still would get surprised by the buurrpp sound of knobbies on their lower extremeties :blonde: . Just saw the link with 54 pics, #30/54 is where the "double" went off, whew, still is chilling!!!!
  21. By the looks of the 2nd photo it's 1 of a couple small bowls where there was a double fatality recently. If so I'd guess they had the sun to their back, and with fairly smooth sand makes depth perception/reading the dunes sketchy at best. With only shadows and contrast for visual clues and the sun at your back, even lots of traffic tracks can be hard to read and the smoother the sand the worse it is. If anyone was there and can comment on the direction of travel, sun, etc speak up, this forum is the closest you'll get to dune survival 101. Been duning here for 33+ years and seen people crash bad, not get hurt and then get killed towing their rail back to camp and the absolutely worse feeling you will ever have is when you see something like that and think you could have prevented it if you only shared your experiance or knowledge. Sorry for the rant but you never know.
  22. To stop 7th day Adventists just draw a chalk outline of a body in front of your door and have a couple of their pamphlets scattered about......
  23. New car? dang, last one barely broke in. Will have to get some pics of it and work on a green "dogstyle" print or panorama idea:
