  1. Hey, are those Iraqaroons? Vinagaroons from Iraq? Anyway, have 3 pics I'm posting but are from Pres day, oops..... they can be stitched together for a panorama view of all the camp flats. Find your camp. Hope downsizing them from 2816x2112 to 1024x768 approx doesn't hurt the view. Oh yeah, click to enlarge.
  2. Everyone needs a "F A W kit", no matter what breaks, you just yell "F A W kit"
  3. The Camp Hosts names are Don and Ellie, they're in an American Dream motorhome. I'm going to Dumont :mc_smiley: .......HEY, wait a sec ...... I'm already here :mc_smiley:
  4. Uuuuhhhh, the 450 4 strokes have aluminum frames
  5. I don't own one or personally know anyone who does but Kawasaki placed 1st and 2nd in the Superstock class at Daytona a couple days ago and Superstock is basically a stock bike. Win on Sunday sell on Monday. Whatever you choose .. in 6 months 1 of the other big 4 (Hon,Kaw,Suz,Yam)will come out with something faster. :mischevious:
  6. Hmmmm, you sure that's not a wind generator up there?
  7. I have six 6-volt batteries, four 2ftx4ft solar panels, solar boost controller etc, and can give you the battery 101 if you want, no BS either, and your batteries will last 5 years, mine are from '01 or '02 and I never ran my gen untill a put a 37" HiDef widescreen in, now I might run it for 20 or 30 min at night if surfing the tube alot. 1) everytime you discharge your battery(ies) more than 50% you are shortening their lifespan, better to charge more often for a shorter period of time. Oh yeah, 50% is 12.25 volts +-, not 6 volts. 2)the best batteries for RVing (and usually least expensive) are "traction" batteries, golf cart/'fork lift. Heavy thick plates, just use the 6v in pairs wired series, then wire each pair parallelwith another pair. Just imagine a 6v as half a battery when hooking them together. AND ALWAYS REMOVE <NEGATIVE> 1ST AND ATTACH <NEGATIVE> LAST. Do the POSITIVE 1st and touch the wrench to grounded metal and the least you'll do is ugly up a wrench but if any battery "gas" present .... there's a 3,000ft ceiling for civilian use above Dumont, remember the Hindenburg? Hydrogen gas. Wear something for your eyes also, screw your clothes. Back to the 50%, get a cheap $5.00 digital multimeter from Harbor Freight put it on the next voltage above 12v dc and stick the probes in 1 of your seldom used 12v light bulb sockets and leave it on, no excuses, and don't cook the batteries dry, cycling the batteries alot (discharge-charge-discharge) makes them gas and use H2O, and use distilled water only. If you want to minimize the gen run time get a big auto charger from Walmart, Costco, etc , wherever, that can charge 40-50 amps continuous w/200 amp boost for under $100.00 (gen rebuilds are more maybe), I'll "bump" my batteries for 10-15 min with 230 amps +- then 60-70 awhile so I don't trip the thermal overload in the big charger. If you want to ask/see or even show/tell (about batteries, otherwise I ain't that kinda guy, hah) look for the tilted up solar panels on a 33ft pusher/22ft enclosed. Was by the DDR balloon area, going to look for a dust friendlier area I think (cough)
  8. I've had the Dish for 7 years, have the Hi Def one now, made 1 mount that swings out under the back bumper of my little pusher and 1 on top where I removed the parallel arms and antenna and cut 2 slots in the bottom of a short section of EMT (2" conduit with 2 bolts thru pipe and orig tv mount)) so it would slide over the OEM Winegard mount, wasn't sturdy enough to rotate and keep stable so a couple self drilling screws through the mount to base fixed it. Have to climb up the ladder but at Dumont I tilt up a four panel solar set up or I would use the ground level one and keep an eye on the midgets on wheels. The best thing about a rig vs tripod setup is when attaching what ever mount to your rig, have your rig level so when level at your campsite your dish mount is already level, can be a pain trying to get 2 or 3 satellites at the4 same time. After you do it a few times it gets alot easier.
  9. My 2 cents worth is extended gooseneck conversion. (OK, cent and a half)
  10. I second that on Carlisle tires, told my brother about them when he bought his hauler, a few months later he was leaving Vegas for Dumont and had a blowout. He called me to inform of the delay and I reminded him to check the other 3 and he found the tread separating on those so back to Vegas for 4 new tires. I'd say they were junk, but I'm not one to gossip. {;o)
  11. I wore a helmet once in my partners LS1 DesertDynamics all chromoly with 8 big Fox coilovers/3 way by-pass shocks and I made him go back to camp to leave the helmets .... WHY? Because landing nose first with a helmet and no "HANS" (Head And Neck Support)device can cause the same injury that killed Dale Earnhardt when he spun and did a "1 O'Clock" into the wall, called baselar skull fracture, when the base of your skull still attached the the vertabrae detaches/breaks from the skull, caused by a violent deceleration with your body restrained but your head with the extra weight isn't, your head is whiplashed forward. On my 2 and 4 wheeler I always wear it to protect from my bikes and others but in a car I personally don't/won't wear one without a HANS. If you have good seats like Beard etc and a good 5 point you might get beat in the face by the arms of the guy sitting next to you (not to mention lack of nets on rec cars) but that probably won't kill you, that's the reason you tell everyone that hasn't graduated from car endo school, in the unlikely event of a crash to cross their arms and grab their shoulder harness, even if they don't grasp them to try and keep arms and legs tucked in. I try to find a good foot rest to wedge my arse back in the seat, keeps your back straight for a hard 4 wheel landing and can help prevent a compression fracture of your lower back. Watched 2 kids in 1 of their dads rail launch off the left side of comp and as it did a nice arch over the top it was also rolling clockwise from the torque and never letting off the throttle, they survived but beat the heck out of each other with their arms. Soon they'll have enertia sensors that will cinch the belts tight in rec vehicles like some of the trick road cars
  12. Not sure the legal speed limit by camps is 15 or 25 but I am sure that the rangers said the speed limit "by" camps is within 50 feet, so beyond that it's the riders discretion, or indiscretion as it may be. When there are few camps at the dunes I still go slow unless on my DRZ 2 wheeler and looking for stuff to fly off of, but still leave way more than 50 feet between me and any camps. I found visibility not so good on quads even standing, still have a low line of site and depth/topography perception is all about the angle of vision relative to distance an object is observed, at 3 feet above ground to an object at a distance of 50 feet is the same angle as 6 ft above at 100 ft, although object is smaller, if it's big enough to make you endo, twice the distance gives you twice as long to react (or kiss your ride good-bye). Anywho, going to Dumont Tues (in 2 days) if you see an LT500 with HID and helmet light give a wave (with all 5 fingers I hope)
  13. New to this forum but not new to Dumont, been hooked since 1973 and hope I don't sound like I'm "preaching" but one my unwritten rules is to ride slow on the flats 1) because of the "kiddie tracks"/"berms" and abandoned fire pits, 2) the camps you pass won't yell or throw things at you for keeping the dust at a minimum, and 3) didn't we come to Dumont to ride the DUNES? Even on the dunes riding in a straight line is dangerous if not looking left and right especially with the sun to your back, your only visual clues as to topography and depth perception is contrast/shadows which don't exist when riding towards your shadow, next time you're out ride into your shadow and look straight ahead then left/right and see the difference. That's how that double fatality happened, mid day and sun at their back, I had a friend do the same thing at that little bowl about 15 years ago but wasn't going fast enough to clear the down side but stuck the nose and endo'd to a gradual stop. Having lights above your line of sight only will do the same at night, no shadows. Anyway go crazy if you must ON the dunes, the flats are for camping and little kids anyway. Later
