  1. About 10 miles north of 95 on Pole Line Road a few miles north of Tonopah. Way smaller than Dumont and super soft sand. My group goes there for Memorial Day and usually a couple other trips a year. It's only 2 hours away for us where Dumont is 5 and a half hours.
  2. Is it just me or is there something seriously wrong with the back end of that buggy? Broken shock mount or shock or I don't know it just looks crooked.
  3. I'm sure you can't beat a guy we met at the Tonopah dunes a couple years back. A friend of mine has a quadzilla and blew the head gasket. The guy comes over and checks it out, says he has some oddball parts he has collected over the years. Goes into his motor home and comes back out with the exact head gasket we needed. He said he had never owned anything that the gasket would have fit but he held onto it just for the hell of it.
  4. Yeah it's probably a scam. My account at atvtraderonline just got hacked today and changed my phone number email and price on the rhino i'm selling. Luckily they didn't get my credit card number or anything.
  5. The thing about it is that with the amount of money they would take in during the dune season would probably make for enough for most of the residents to live the rest of the year without even opening. It's definately not a business opportunity for someone who doesn't live there or very nearby. As far as community services there aren't really any, the only law enforcement is a single Inyo County Deputy Sheriff for the whole of Death Valley and the Tecopa/Shoshone area. The County has an office there for Health and Human Services aka Welfare and Mental Health but there isn't a full time staff. They only go there a couple of times a month. The point is if a local person wanted to even start with a private dump station and private dumpsters they could easily make enough money to pay for the construction and to have the trash hauled to Pahrump and make a profit. That's just the way that I see it so who knows what the possibilities could be.
  6. From what I understand they are just really too lazy to try and take advantage of anything that would involve work. While everyone else was bitching about the people going through town there was one guy sitting in the back that looked like he had 10 years worth of experience as a Tweeker, and sounded like he had been smoking that funny green stuff all day. The smartest comment to come from any of the locals was from him. "Seems to me after watching all them big fancy rigs goin' through town somebody could make some pretty good money if the had something that they wanted." All I have to say is that I agree. Although they wouldn't be able to fill fresh water tanks there they could definately put in a store for those last minute oopsies we forgot this or that and include a sewer dump station and trash dumpsters. I bet everyone would be willing to pay $5 bucks to dump sewer and $5 bucks to dump your trash right? That was my thought on the subject.
  7. I seem to remember a certain story about our fearless leader involving getting a reckless driving ticket... There are definately Rangers who are holios just for the hell of it. I personally witnessed one last season that was beyond out of line spending 45 minutes reaming a 60 year old man for having 2 people on his Polaris 700 that is registered like a rhino with the factory supplied passenger back/arm rests. He also had a photo copy of all of the VC and DMV info just for an occasion such as this to avoid any hassles. My point is, some are cool others either don't want to be there or don't want you to be there so they have a chip on their shoulder and whether you are an or a kinda guy it's just luck of the draw which Ranger you happen to run into.
  8. Right on! That's way better than my first dune rig, like a 1970 sumthin pos that i'm suprised didn't fall apart by the time i got to the dunes every trip i made. That thing scared the hell out of me to tow down the highway. That's awesome, very nice.
  9. In case you are retarded or something you might want to reread his posts. He said he was pulling up to buy his pass! HE KNEW HE NEEDED ONE!!!
  10. Do you know the difference between needing a spark arrestor and not? A license plate!!! That's it and it's bulls##t! I know a USFS Ranger that works Glamis a couple times a year and he said that the biggest thing that all the Rangers will be looking for and writing tickets for this year is spark arrestors. I figure as much as I don't want to choke down my bike I will run it just to avoid a ticket.
  11. That's sick! Too bad the hill wasn't longer so they had room to hold 'em for a while.
  12. Cole, whatever you do, don't fill your fresh water in Tecopa. That water smells like sulfer (rotten eggs). It's very very bad unless you don't mind smellin' funky after a shower. Also although you can dump your black and grey water there the locals tend to get a little upset. I have a family member who is on the Inyo County board of supervisors and she just got back from a meeting in Death Valley. Basically their feelings were "F#%^ the duners! We wish they would fall off the face of the Earth" It would greatly help our situation to keep them from complaining to BLM about the trash and sewer that is dumped in their town and on the side of the highway if everyone not going thru Baker could either go through Shoshone and stop in Paruhmp spelling? or wait till you get back home to dump your sewer and trash.
  13. That's the next upgrade I'm doing on my WW. 1" x 2" x .188" rectangle tubing to replace that tin can stuff they use from the factory. I know, . Sorry
  14. Well I personally had a blowout coming home from the D last Thanksgiving and I found that the hydraulic bottle jack that came with my truck worked just fine to swap out the tire. Had it changed out in about 10 minutes using a crescent wrench cause the hub cap wouldn't allow my lug wrench to get onto the nut. Problem fixed, I now have a socket and long half inch drive breaker bar in the trailer. Unless your truck has one of those cheap screw jacks that can't lift a quad you should have no need for the ramps or a block of wood or any other money wasting gadget.
  15. Did any of you happen to see the overall width of the Sand Limo car front end? 101" is too big to fit into any hauler I know of and even if you were to ratchet strap to droop the suspension to get it narrow enough width wise i'm sure it would be too tall to fit under the bed.
  16. beau

    wow

Yeah it was a pretty good fight. Seems like Chuck needs to start attacking rather than being so defensive all the time. All I know for sure is that if I kept getting kicked in the same spot over and over eventually I would have grabbed that ankle and rolled. :eatdrink021:
  17. Well I hate to break it to you, but.... no matter what your experience or his I don't think your Polaris will ever beat a 450 straight up.
  18. Yeah the trx bone stock was pretty choked down and the gearing was way too high, it had no bottom end whatsoever. Did the trx you raced have a cam? Mine hasn't been beaten by a raptor yet, even the 700.
  19. Well from my experience the only one between the two that has come close to my TRX was a YFZ. The two Polaris' that have run against my TRX were by far the slowest. The YFZ was bone stock and one of the Polaris' was piped with a K&N and jetted. My quad has the HRC cam K&N and a pipe. In my opinion the Polaris is just too big and heavy to be competitive on the hill.
  20. This one's a little off topic but does anyone know where to find the requirements to make a buggy street legal in the lame state of California? I would assume that the motor would have to pass smog as well and if you didn't use a VW motor you would be required to have the smog pump and cats with real mufflers as well right?
  21. I don't know about the atv market but I know there is alot of copy-cat designs in rhino cages. Here is one Paul with Hi Dezert Fabrications designed 2 years ago and the longtravel is the cage that PDS is making now. Hi Dezert's original from 2 years ago. PDS now.
  22. They look pretty close but I guess if you wanted to get technical about it there are at least 3 differences I can see with a quick look. Granted if you were to look at one without the other present they would be easily confused.
