I thought the same thing about the D... That was until I went to get someone who was arriving at about 1AM and left camp in a straight line to the gully and after a few minutes I thought something wasn't right. Pulled the GPS out of the glove box of the rhino and found that I was .13 miles from camp so I fugured I would just go back and start again. Funny thing was when I got back to camp I was 180 degrees backwards from where I thought I was.

That's pretty cool! The course didn't seem like it had any flow to it at all. Or is that part of the difficulty? Run all the drivers through a up line through the dunes and see who can do it fastest. Actually, I guess that would make for a much more challenging race.

Actually I think that it is a hit to our cause. The species in question had been previously denied being listed in the Endangered Species Act. If I'm reading it right the species have now been added to the list or are under further review to eventually be added. Tell me if I'm wrong. :beer_bang:

Yeah the older guy riding around in the Ranger was pretty cool. He took my friends beer, Tecate, out of her hand and asked "What the hell is this crap?!" If I'm reading this right I have a feeling that he was trying to tell you without telling you that it doesn't matter. They won't be there on Monday so there wasn't going to be anybody there to check on you and make you buy another pass. That's one thing I have learned over the years, law enforcement will tell you that there is a loophole or a way out of being hassled anymore but you have to listen carefully since most of the time they will still sound like an azzhole.

Ran into some BLM Fire guys that are stationed near us and they said that there was a shortage of EMS people due to the fire in Malibu since most of the EMS services are the fire guys. They said fortunately it wasn't a problem.

So I am getting there on the 20th and I'm kinda confused. Do we pay the $10 upgrade when we buy the weekly pass at the entrance? Or do we have to hook up with Doghouse or something on the 21st to get the upgrade separate? Does the Barstow Field Office just like making things difficult/confusing?

We had a pit turkey last year and it was really good. It's a little different so some people don't seem to like it as much so this year we are doing 2 one pitted and one fried. Do you know how to deep pit? If you don't do a few things right then things could get ugly.

Everyone thinks the plane isn't moving but it is. Look at Barefoot Bob's post, he had a good explanation. The ground has no effect on whether the plane moves or not.

it's not countering wheel speed it's countering the speed of the plane. when the plane moves forward, because it will, the conveyor will match the speed of the plane and the wheel speed will be the combined speed of the plane and conveyor which would be double the speed of the plane.

You have the same mind block everyone has. Everyone thinks that the forward movement of the plane has something to do with the ground. It doesn't. Thrust of the plane comes from the prop or jet or whatever it has pushing against the air. Pretend for a minute that the plane didn't have wheels and it hovered like the hover board in the movie back to the future. There isn't any friction with the ground, right? So the treadmill wouldn't stop the plane from taking off, right? Well the wheels on a plane do nothing but minimize the friction with the ground unless the brakes are applied. If the thrust of the plane came from the wheels then no, the plane would not take off.

Ok, so this question was asked on a motocross forum and the arguments were exactly the same. The thread reached 12 pages after 2 days. The part of the question that throws everybody off is that the conveyor belt will match the forward speed of the plane. THAT DOESN'T MATTER!!! Yamakiller had the correct answer from the start. The speed of the plane has nothing to do with the speed of the ground. Let's look at it this way, the wind is blowing at 100 mph a plane flying into the wind is going 100 mph however the ground speed of the plane is 0 mph, or the plane is flying with the wind at 100 mph and the ground speed will be 200 mph. The speed of the ground and the speed of the plane have absolutely nothing to do with each other. THE PLANE WILL TAKE OFF!!!
