crawlinxj's condition

As some of you all know crawlinxj (Jeff) broke his back over Thanksgiving weekend. He was transported to the hospital.

I just got off the phone with his wife and she gave me the latest....

Since the accident his condition hasn't really improved too much. :( When his leg went under the axle, it didn't break or show any signs of major injury. However there was so much trauma to his leg that it caused blood clots in his leg that traveled up into his lungs. He now has MANY blood clots in his lungs and some still in his leg. They were going to do surgery a couple days ago, but they waited. Good thing too, because doctors believe he wouldn'thave made it through surgery. They have brough in specialists to make sure every possible move that is made is the right one at this point. They have put off the surgery for now and x-rays have shown that the bone(s) haven't shifted at all so that good. (It was his L1 that he broke) Doctors are taking it hour by hour at this point due to the number of blood clots he has in his lungs. He is on blood thinning medication. His leg is in alot of pain and they know he is NOT paralyzed because he can wiggle his feet and toes.

At this point we can all only pray and hope for the best for Jeff. His wife said he was very curious what everyone has had to say on DDR ( ) and he hopes to be able to talk to me over the phone. He also said he had so much fun camping with us over Thanksgiving. She gave me his hospital room phone number and I will give him a call real soon.

GET BETTER SOON, JEFF!!! :yeah_whatever:

Thanks for the update pete. I actually saw someone logged in under his name last night, I assumed it was his wife. Sent a PM looking for a update. Its good it sounds like his spirits are high. Sounds pretty serious at this point with the blood clots. Ill be praying for a speedy recovery. If there is anything I can do, let me know.

Get better Jeff!!!!!

I just got off the phone with Jeff. He said he is in alot of pain. It sounded like it too. :yeah_whatever: He is keeping a good attitude though. He said he can't stand hospitals and the worst part about it is that he can't get on DDR. :beerpint::laughing:

He was glad to hear from me. I told him we all wished him our best and that we had a great time camping together at Dumont. I am gonna call him the next day or so and see how he is doing. I'll keep you all posted. :dunno: Keep those prayers coming everybody!!

wow i hope he recovers the pics look like hes young that must have been a terrible amount of force to break his back. my prayers bro get better :(

pics? which ones? :DDRrocks:

I think he is in his 30's. (32 to be exact from his profile)

The way he described it to me was he was wheeling down a dune standing up and when the quad got to the bottom- the suspension compressed and rebounded back up causing the seat to hit him and break his back. He said it was completely unexpected and didn't seem like it would be that bad. :headbang1:

Unfortunatley no good news yet....only worse. :(

Carrie (his wife) just called me back after I tried to get a hold of Jeff earlier in his hospital room. He is still in critical condition in ICU. They started the blood thinners yesterday to attempt to rid the blood clots. Since Tuesday he started going insane. He had only had literally a couple hours of sleep in a few days. He started becoming dillusional (sp?) and tried getting up out of bed, ripping his IV's out, screaming, and flat out not making sense. They put him in restraints fearing for he might break his back even more and cause extreme damage, paralysis, etc. At this point they aren't even worried about his back. They are just trying to save his life. There were many items I can't remember that Carrie told me they have been doing to treat him. I can't remember all of them though. They have sedated (or inidated? I can't remember the word) him and he is being monitered hoping that the blood thinners thin out the blood clots and then his body will just absorb them.

It is very scary hearing this kind of thing. This kind of accident shows you how dangerous our sport/ hobby is and that such a little accident can be so serious.

I hope the very best for Jeff and his family and that he pulls through this. Carrie is holding it together pretty good and the hospital staff seem optimistic. Let's all hope and pray for the best for Jeff and his family in this tough time.

I told Carrie if there is ANYTHING we can do to help...to please let me know. She said she will let me know of any news that comes about.
