  1. I can't believe between all of the trips out and about that we didn't run in to eachother. Nick stopped by to show off his Bomber and I tried to hook him up with some carb mods but he wanted to get busy riding, which I can't blame him for. He's gonna have a runner after a few bolt ons. Fourth trip to the D this season and I've gotta admit I finally got in a day (Fri) with some smooth sand. Not too bad Saturday morning. You young folks just don't understand what all of those ruts do to an old body. It was definitely good times and good rides though, just not my favorite dunes. Met Randy and we had our schedules bassackwards too and could never hook up for a ride. All weekend long I'd come back in from a ride and the folks in camp would tell me somebody had stopped by. Gotta coordinate these things one of these days. Got to ride in and drive some RZR S's and a 4. Nice machines but a tad small for a CroMag. Can't wait for the CanAm SXS to hit the street in June. They always build things bigger and better.
  2. Yeah, I got kids alright! But they're 25, 23, and 20. I'm doing a bachelor trip this time out though, everyboy has to work or go to college or both. We've got a group down towards the cul de sac with an a$$load of Bombs in the group, and there's a rumor that Nick may be a proud new member of the Can Am Klan. Rolling out around 8 this morning. Hopefully the wind is blowing there like it is in 29 Palms, it'll be smoother than a baby's bottom. Don't worry about alll them young'uns, that's about my riding style! Look for the Earnhardt flags flapping in the breeze and stop by for a ride. Or a drink. Or some drinkin' and ridin'.
  3. We've got a group rolling in from 29 Palms early Friday. I'll find out where the rest of the crew wants to shack up at and let you know. Always down for a dunefreak seven minute pole to pole ride!
  4. I would be more inclined to say it would be out of the ordinary if you didn't feel a great loss. Dogs are very much a part of our families. We had to put down our 16yr old black Lab Harley a year ago last October. A faithful companion from the day we adopted him at 5 months old. I'd take him on five mile runs while I was in the Marine Corps, and still able to do so myself, and he shadowed my wifes every move. The three kids could try to ride him like a pony, lay on him, trip over him, and never so much as a cross look. His hips started getting bad, he still had his senses about him, but he was such a great friend and may have had a couple more painful years ahead of him but I couldn't bear to see him in pain. Too good of a guy to watch suffer like so many folks let there dogs do because of their own selfishness. Cried like a baby for a couple of hours and walked one of favorite routes reminiscing about all of the great times we shared. Still get misty eyed a year and a half later when I think about the old fella. Hell, tears running down my cheeks right now. You'll have many great memories of him and the times you guys shared to get you through. I wanted to hold his head in my lap and pat him while he drifted under but they wouldn't allow that at our clinic. Made it alot worse on me as I walked out of the room but I couldn't bear to see the pain that seemed to be getting worse as time went on. You're doing the right thing and enduring the right feelings. We all feel for you. Good luck.
  5. http://vote29.com/newmyblog/ http://www.orvwatch.com/node/61 http://www.friendsofgiantrock.com/ This is just a handful of articles of the kind of crap we put up with in the paper, on the radio, and on the net every day. It's great living in the HiDesert and having my lifestyle dictated by those who own homes here but live in L.A. and other cities. Folks come from all over the world to enjoy a little slice of our desert paradise and then complain about twenty seconds of noise and/or dust. Read them and enjoy. There are lunatics on both sides of this argument, but some edjucated descussion does take place from time to time. The CactusThorns articles are probably the best to get the feel of whats really going on.
  6. What is this texting of which you people speak?
  7. Has anyone gotten any replies back from any of our fine young men and women in unform yet?
  8. :ahhhhh: :ahhhhh: Cheese said poll love!
  9. Those parts are worth MUCH more seperately than they are on the bike. Aftermarket on these things is a helluva market. Potential buyers may not know or care what's on there but folks that own these will pay first born for things like carbon fiber shrouds and whatnot. Very nice machines. Good luck with the sell.
  10. Surprised nobody saw eachothers flags. Glad everyones okay though.
  11. Yo yo, word up! :B If you don't like whale don't eat it, just don't intrude on others right to enjoy it. If you don't like the dunes don't go to them. Just don't intrude on my right to enjoy them. Fuggin' CBD, Sierra Club, and their ilk. :shoot:
  12. R.I.P. and condolences to the friends and family. Coroner case #701001234 -- On 02/19/2010, Edward Minjares, a 49 year old resident of Palmdale, was riding his motorcycle in the Dumont Dunes recreation area, when he crested a dune at too high a speed, traveled approximately 120 feet in the air, and lost control on landing. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, but Minjares succumb to his injuries at the scene. The California Highway patrol is investigating the incident. [022010 0700 JK]
  13. It's no where near a done deal with the expansion going east and south vice the west/JV option. I'll put it like this, rocks put up alot less resistance than families with homes, which is what Wonder Valley is full of to the east and south... While the uproar has quieted down somewhat the idea of expansion to the west is nowhere near being shelved.
  14. JV Dune Guide JV Dirtopia JV DesertUSA JV BLM Here are just a few, many more are out there. Google will list many. I won't go into it all here but you might want to enjoy this beautiful sooner rather than later. The United States Marine Corps wants/needs this area for live fire training and I willl just leave it at that.
  15. This is right out of our back door. Well 30-40 minutes away, but there is much much more to do than rock crawling. Like I said, it's the largest OHV park in America, some smaller dunes, lots and lots of trails and old mining roads, tons of open desert riding without the worry of rocks in most places, and some killer washes that you can run five or six quads wide WOT throttle and have room to manuver without running into one another. And of course killer canyons and boulders if that's what you enjoy. And by all means if you go obey the Marine Corps base boundry signs. Would suck to get run over by an M1A1 tank!
  16. They are in Johnson Valley, between Yucca Valley and Lucerne Valley. Camping area is Means dry lake at the end of Boone road off of 247. Largest OHV park in America.
  17. Oh boy, just like Obama, can't find the answer so use your executive privilege and get all hostile and violent towards the folks! Damn presidents anyway! :B
  18. Not true. If you researched it as I have since this all came up California almost encourages folks to use grey water for their gardens and irrigation for landscaping and whatnot. I posted exerpts from Wikipedia where it clearly states that grey water is not sewage. Hence alot of folks on heres question as to who, what, where, when, and why BLM or CA differentiates between the two. Still noone has come up with an ordinance, only speculation....
  19. I wasn't disputing what you had said, Terry just holds a position that he should know these things and when he chimed in I took his word. BUT, he linked the same site that you did and it doesn't clear up the question. I states sewage, and that's not we're talking about. As you can tell from later post I'm not the only wanting to know the real answer.
  20. HMMMM, okay, coming from Terry I'll take it as law. But where might one find specifics on said matter? Ten people have ten different definitions and reasons but nobody can point a curious soul in the right direction. Is it hearsay/discussions at TRT meetings or can it be found printed/posted somewhere? Promise this is the last time I will ask! So I'm guessing that stopping to pee while out in the dunes is a no-no?
  21. Some of us don't go pee pee in the shower. :ahhhhh:
  22. Then use some smileys fugger! :ahhhhh: I'm sticking with Mother G until some once in a hundred year wind storm hits The D. The couple of times I've been this year were hella torn up and rutted, atleast at G you can find tons of virgin sand, during a big weekend, not a month after. You've been, you know what I mean.
  23. "Greywater gets its name from its cloudy appearance and from its status as being neither fresh (white water from groundwater or potable water), nor polluted (sewage)." "Greywater is wastewater generated from domestic activities such as laundry, dishwashing, and bathing which can be recycled on-site for uses such as landscape irrigation, and constructed wetlands." "Greywater comprises 50-80% of residential wastewater generated from all of the house's sanitation equipment (excepting toilets). Water from the toilets is designated sewage or blackwater to indicate it contains human waste." And the list of definitions of grey water from Wikipedia goes on and on... Not saying that they are the bible on the subject, just trying to get in black and white where BLM or CA states that grey cannot be dumped. So far this all seems to be one person or anothers interpretation. Looks like I'm going to have to hit up the free clinic and stop my drip!
  24. Damn! Sorry bro, I didn't mean to piss in your Wheaties! Guess I'll just stick with Glamis.... Guess we're no the only ones with this question... Too bad that the Ranger that responded did so from Texas.
