  1. I would tow with it...but I d use an interceptor gauge by aeroforce and I d tune it. The interceptor lets you see nearly everything the pcm does, and in this case....knock retard and trans temp. Most of the truck tuning I do is primarily to the trans. There isnt a lot to do with a stock engine, esspecially in a tow application, but there are great improvements to the trans. When, how hard, how long, lock up etc etc ... Best if done with a trailer , witch is pretty easy for me since there is ussually a few around.
  2. btw, Im not a cop.....and cops tell me, I m one of the few people with a job more dangerous then theirs. I ve been in a few gun situations and as scary as they are, if your more then 6 ft away, a$$hats like these kids have a real hard time hitting you. I ussually go for the weapon. I have a free collection of knives. Anytime Im in the hood....Im careful. Compton....not bad, wattts, not bad, east wilmington= BAD...thats a scary a$$ place. No place in vegas even compares. Jackson ave isnt as bad as it seems. These kids were from Silverado highschool...middle class thugs, one even tried to play that he had gun. His expression when I laughed and said, "what are you gonna do? Whats that?" was priceless. I was on him in that brief second. He actually got let go, cause I wanted the rest. The chase was just starting then and he actually hadnt done anything really wrong.
  3. Yesterday , I was out running. (I do triathlons) and I was n mile 3.5 or so....just a short run. I see 4 young men coming towards me. Hmmm....they should be in school? It 9 am......when one reaches up and tags a stop sign. I m about 60 ft away by running towards tthem. At about 20 ft away I say " I ve been looking for you my whole life", he realizes whats about to happen and bolts. I say to him, he cant get away, that I run marathons...but he keeps going. Long story short....I chased them for about 3 more miles. I get one charged with destruction of county property, and three charged with destruction of private property (the chase), and one charge with possesion and paraphnalia, and another they picked up during the chase with drug charges...and all 5 with truency. They were tuff and vocal in hand cuffs but none of them wanted to go when they werent surrounded by 6 leos. I would have gladly not chased them. The one that started has 3 or 4 previous charges so they are going to try and charge him (15 ) as an adult. all before lunch.
  4. I did mine myself. I added... 1. power bunk beds, 2. 5 windows 3. water tank 4. grey water tank 5. self contained toliet 6. Fold out wall for bathroom wall 7. fold down couch /bed 8. fold down dinette/ table 9. 3500 lb winch with 50 ft of cable 10. 26 inch flat screen in cabinet with x box and surround sound 11. fold out kitchen, with sink and running water. other equipment ..... bolted in roll around tool box, cabinets, counter top cabinet, and a 6500 honda super quiet generator. I made a remote start for it for about 20$ instead of the 300 they wanted...and it came with two roof airs/heaters. I also run a small indoor heater when its super cold, and when I did the conversion I insulated the walls with styrofoam 1 inch thick. I still need to do the floor, but after doing most of the walls, its very noticable and much better. When I cut the window holes, I stuffed the walls, and I did the rest by removing the interior paneling. Last trip it held 6 quads, a loooong 4 passenger rail with 3.3 subie and a samurai.....then made into the rv in about 1 hour....for sleeping 12 people. Just finding rv parts is pretty tough, let alone finding some one to the the work. good luck
  5. well I get my information from the guys t the weigh stations not the all knowing dmv. On my truck there is no sticker that says what it can or can not tow. The door sticker does have the gvw, for the truck....but it has zero to do with the trailer. In many states guys are towing virtually as much as they want, LEGALLY, because the state registers the truck for the weight they desire. If they want to scale 40k lbs....they just pay for a 40k plate registration, and guess what, they can drive to any state in the union. Just stop at a weigh station and talk with the guys that write the tickets. The dmv information is just funny. Oh, and I know two guys that pull for a living. Licensed, insured, inspected, weighed on every trip. They use dodge ram duallies to move cargo....three/4 car slant trailer (trailer alone is 12k ) , enclosed trailers, and 48 ft gn open trailers with duallies on the trailer.....all legal, every day. They move 15k lb construction equipment on 15k lb trailers. The trailer gvw is like 36k.... You see all kinds of duallies moving three (sometimes 4) cars at a time on slant deck gn's on I 15 for business. They dont do it illegally. The cars alone are 12-15k lbs plus the trailer..............and they do it everyday.
  6. Thats absolutely REATARDED. The gvw "door sticker" has NOTHING to do with what you tow......LOLOLOLOLOL.....These people should be fired. GVW, first is only a manufacturers suggested gvw for warrantee coverage. In MANY states you simply pay for the weight plate you want.....regardless of the gvw of the towing vehicle. For instance many duallies in Texas are plated for 33k to 45k lbs..... I can easily tow a 15k lb trailer with my 11k gvw dodge truck and NOT BE OVER 11k lbs on the truck. INFACT I have many weight slips, up to and including 35k lb total, that I was right at 11 k on my truck. I even made my front axle weight by like 40 lbs....that time. You spoke to complete idiots. THE GVW of a tractor is NOT 80k lbs.....which is what they can legally tow.....This is just funny. By what you were told, then my 7k lb dually can only tow a 4 k lb trailer........which isnt even a single car on an open car trailer.... idiots. THe ONLY way to get an overweight fine is to be SCALED, each axle. Its way way easier to be over your tire weights (ussually front axle) or trailer tires then its is to be simply over weight. It why duallies exist....the pin weight that lands on the truck can put single rear wheel trucks over easy on the tires. If I load my 21500 lb trailer to capacity.....thats actually about 25500 if I disconnect the trailer from the truck. If loaded properly I put 4 k more lbs on my truck and stay just under my 11k truck gvw and that 4 k that is on my truck lowers my trailer weight back to 21500....so I dont go over weight. That puts the whole rig at about 33k lbs......and all axles legal, and the gvw of the truck and trailer legal.
  7. Im guessing that "runningafever" is talking about a california non cdl class a? In Nv, when I got my non com class a, I went to the west flamingo dmv. (buffalo) I took what I think was a 20 question test. Then upon passing that , they gave me an appointment for the driving test. I submitted no medical paper work of any kind. Several weeks later I showed up with my trailer (empty) to take the driving test. They had to call a supervisor and have another "tester" go with to learn how to give the test, because they had never done one before. I had to do the check list test first. You have to point to AND TOUCH each item. If you point to the lug nuts you get marked off.....If you point to the brake master cap....you get marked off. It was painful for me......I mean I have to point to and touch something on my truck? I built my truck.....like every piece, and know more about it then dodge.....and they still marked me off for not touching something....(cant remeber what now) Then the driving test. They took me on just city streets, marked me off for not staying on the inside lane on a rt hand turn.....and my truck and trailer is 64 ft 9 inches (trailer is 50 ft) so short of lifting it with a crane, and turning it in mid air, its impossible. No big deal, I still passed with a couple points deducted. They gave me my license on the spot......I already have my "M" for motercycles, and they commented that I could legally drive anything for my own purposes. It even says right on , class A (doubles, triples) I have gotten a few tickets and its never been any issue at all regarding traffic school, but the last few I gave to a company attourney to take care of. California most certainly differs.....since nothing they do makes any dam sense at all.
  8. what if I just take my grey tank out......then I wouldnt be draining from a sewage tank since I wouldnt have one. What if i just dump water on the ground from the water tank or from an ice chest? Is that a nono? I almost always emprty my fresh water tank, just so I dont have to haul the extra weight. Better for the enviroment if I get better mpg you know.
  9. This is complete crap...... Im willing to be a perfect target for them if you guys want to do it. Did they actually scale anyone? I too would refuse to let them search anything. My grandfathers fought for the freedom, and Im expected to excercise that right. My trailer is a 50ft enclosed trailer. PETE, nev DOES have a non com CLASS A, I have one. I think from memory all you need for over 10000 is the J endorsement. ALL WEIGHTS considered are loaded. ANYONE that asks what it weighs empty is INCORRECT. ITS GVW and GCVW. My trucks gvw by manufacurer is 11k, and my trailer is 15500. So my gcvw is 26500 which allowed me to get my non commercial class A. Easy test, written and driving test with the trailer. You have to do it late afternoon though for the back up test......get the shadow 90 degrees to the trailer to hit the line. (hint) It was real cheap. This is blatant harrassment. Ill drive thru when they are targeting it if three of you guys go too.....and as soon as one is pulled over we ll stop with video rolling. The news (san bernadino sheriff would love that) Whats with the law of reciprocation anyways....I dont see how they can right a tint ticket for a nev reg veh if its legal in NV? It would be like saying your truck cant pull 10k lbs.....or well fine you for every 100 lbs over or something....its legal in NV so its legal when you VISIT. Or is it NOT the UNITED STATES anymore, I may have missed the MEMO. Id even roll thru empty and stil refuse to open up. Not that you can evn get thru my trailer loaded very well though. I had 6 quads, and two cars in it.....my trailer is a 96 and the weight sticker is imppossible to read, so I fail to see how they could even right me for over weight if I was....(I m not when I go to dumont though) They would not be able to effectively determine my gcvw. I want to burn these guys. All the people on I15 going 100 mph.....and they ant to target Tecopa? They only traffic they get, with 5 to 10 officers? Yea, thats sounds news worthy to anyone running for office...and Im sure they would pick it up.
  10. I saw the aftermath. I was told they rolled over slow, about 5/6 times. It was at the bottom to the rt side of comp were rails ussually jump. Both driver and passenger were still in the rhino when I saw them. The drive had a huge laceration to his forehead. Both looked to have gone 5 rounds with matt hughes on top of them. Both had many bruises and just looked beat to crap. The cage was collapsed in towards there heads, closer to the th edriver then passenger. I dont think they got ambulanced out, but I didnt stay long enough to really see. The rangers were taking statements.....and didnt look to be in any hurry or concerned.
  11. First the turbo rail that I broe the cv on has a 8.8 ford rear....about a 300$ rear. It has powerglide in front of that. I guess well look into further. I told him I could make the power.....and he would need to keep the wheels on it. Second.....I went thru tecopa sunday at about 230-300 and again didnt see one officer. I was pulling my 50ft trailer with 6 quads and two cars, so I d bet that if they even saw me they would pull me over. I do have my class A though. Do you know if they scaled anyone? Or just harrassment for easy revenue? I ussually go thru pahrump on the way out and tecopa back. I lost a tire about 20 miles from 160, though and had another coming apart. So the remainer of my trip over the hill was slow to keep the bad tire as long as possible. It made it all the way home with only half the tread on the tire. I only went about 58 mph tops though, and got great mileage too. Hey Joe....I texted you about my heater AC.......
  12. We had a pretty good week end....a couple small miss haps but it went like this.... Loaded my trailer with.....count em 6 quads, and one 4 pass rail and 4 pass samaria, and an extra trailer with an old school vw two pass rail and 250 quad racer. 3 Cars and 7 quads.............. arrived fri morning....our group for some unknown reason like to be by bathroom 10....I hate it. but...if your not the first one there you dont get a choice, and I wasnt first. So be it. The throwout bearing went on the first or second ride fri in my car....so what do we do? We pull the motor and replace the bearing with hand tools and no hoist at all. (Its a 3.3 subie) Back running at 8 pm fri night, and go for night ride and the hill, a great end to a rough day, plus the 4 pizzas got there alittle late. Great fun sat, kids rode the wheels off, and a huge huge fire sat night. Flames were probably 15 ft high. It was still going in the morning with no wood since about 9 pm. Sunday we take the old school vw car out with the sammy. Great fun cause they are pretty evenly matched. The throttle stuck wid open on the vw car, and I was at the top of a razor....and went over the top but kept it old school side up. On a side note even with only 6 inches of suspension a lite car lands surprisingly well for being way too far off the ground. A quick repar to the throttle and we were back out again, changing drivers in both, having a great time. Later we realized the battery was dead on the sammy...when we were loading up. Hmmm open the hood......and the battery is GONE. Like vanished.....along with part of the mount. I posted in the lost and found section. All told.....I broke a throwout bearing (fixed), lost a battery, the kids broke a polaris 50 rear suspension, killed something electrical on a 110, and I think thats it. I need to bleed the clucth on my rail, fix the battery and positive cable situation on the sammy, do some welding to the polaris 50, and rewire the 110 to bypass a solinoid that starts it. Oh and I broke a cv in a turbo v8 car (saturday)that I built the turbo engine package for. That doesnt really count though since it makes enough power to break everything though. I think were gonna try u joint axles now. I sheared a stub axle last time in it and now the cv. The funny part is, that its making it least amount of power. Its just waistgate spring...with no timing yet. I looged it some saturday, made a tuning change(fuel), made some more power and promply broke the cv on the second run up comp (at the bottom). No body got hurt and we air out the vw rail and the sammy a few times.
  13. I didnt know who it was, but I drove by right after the accident. Then I saw the car today on the trailer. The car was a black turbo honda 2 pass. Looked as if it landed on the nose. Me and couple friends that fabricate cars go look at the wrecks, ussually on sunday to see if we can learn anything. His car held up well, but the belts were mounted incorrectly. May not have been any issue depending on the height or the passengers, but the force appeared to be big enough to bend the frame of the seat. So I hope they recover and that they were both short enough to not get hurt unnecessarily. Also saw a few others, but nothing looked real bad. I hope all are well.
  14. I lost a red top optima........and it went like this. 5 guys out having with two cars....one was a rail, old school vw car, and the dune samaria. Well everyone was taking turns, driving both machines, and as near as we can tell the battery came out of the samarai somewhere between comp and camp, probably in the whoops in the valley. It will have one cable still connected to the positive terminal, and the other broken off. Well, apparently everyone was having a riot of a time, since not 1 of the 5 noticed the mount breaking and the battery falling out.....but there was some air time, and etc etc..... If you found a red top (in the valley probably) its mine.....It ran just fine even with out it so we had no clue it was gone until later when it wouldnt start....and we open the hood to see it MISSING.
  15. I build 95% chevy engines, but I dont have anything against fords really. The engine design is fine. Most buyers (especiallynow) make at least part of the build decisions based on cost. Chevies being more popular brings cost down. Besides the small defference in actual engine cost, there are big differences in induction cost, and mostly tuning COSTS. Ive tuned in the neighborhood of 2000 ls pcms....and have friends that also tune and we all have our OWN tuning hardware and software. I have 3 different softwares for tuning just ls engines depending on year, needs etc. I also have software for most aftermarket stuff, like fast, accel, subies, etc...BUT HAVE NEVER SEEN TUNING EQUIPMEnt even once anywhere for fords. None of my friends have tuning abilities for fords either. So I thinks thats the biggest reason they are not more popular. I jump in a few cars a week with a laptop, record data, make changes, etc etc...but have had maybe 4 phone calls regarding tuning fords in the last few years.
  16. nev and cal differ greatly. Cal has to accept the licence standards of nev for your rig but you have to mechanically be legal with cal law. Ie lenght limits, route limitations etc. I have a nev non com class A.
  17. I scaled yesterday at 26440 after our new years trip to dumont. So I lost a bunch of weight in firewood (I took lot), fuel, and water. At least another 1000 lbs there. 5080 front axle 6540 rear axle (dually) 14820 trailer axles (triple) $9.00 at the TA. its a 98 4x4 dodge extra cab (cummins ofcourse) and a 50 ft trailer with 5 quads, 4 seater subie, and 4 seater samurai power bunk beds, kitchen table/bed, and another wall bed, water tank, tool box, two roof airs, and a honda 6500 gen. Got 11 mpg round trip, with a boost leak that slowed it down on the hills.
  18. I came home through tecopa yesterday,at about 130 pm.....didnt see one leo. I m probably a target too, but completely legal and have never been pulled over in any state. My trailer is 50 ft and I make the state lenght limit with 4 inches to spare. I didnt see more then three other cars or trucks even on the tecopa road, and not one going my direction. I past two or three guys dumping in tecopa too. Ever since I went the "back way" I ve never bee back through baker. I ussually go through Pahrump now, but yesterday......everything was going good, I pulled out of dumont at 1245 and into the house at 240 with a stop at the truck stop to get weighed.......at 26440.... I was probably close to 28k with firewood and fuel and water on the way out. Glad Im class a licensed.
  19. Thinking about getting a new generator. I have a 7500 kohler....and it has an oil leak. When it gets hot it will cause smoke. It very very very heavy too, I d guess in the 300-400 area. Its in an insulated box, and the only thing Id really like to add is a remote start. Mostly cause then I could fire it up while still in bed. Anyways, either fix teh oil leak and be happy, even though Ill have to take it out to do it, or just replace it..... which brings me to.. 1. hondas.....one or two eu 3000's 2. equivalent yamaha. 3. ebay style "super quiet" off brands for much cheaper. I was also looking at the honda 6500 but if I go with two eu 3000's and only run one most of the time. A deisel would be cool, but I have no experience with them or how loud they are.
  20. That wasnt so hard. That explains everything. I think its a 4.070 bore, which when combined with a 4.00 stroke to me is known as a 416....I neverchecked to see if thats rounded up though. The ls3 head is also not a ls2 head at all. A ls2 head is cathedral port and ls3 rectangular. The difference would be about 50 cfm on average from one to the other in there best porting. I wouldnt even have asked if you said it was a built iron block with ls3 heads. I build them pretty much trhe same way, I have maybe 4 of going at anytime. I go slightly smaller, with 4.030 bores, but l92/ ls3 heads, etc... Thank You.
  21. post number 8 asked whats in it......? Here we are at post 22....and no... 1. no stroke 2. no bore size 3. no cam numbers 4. no posted graph 5. no hp @ rpm? 6. no header size or lenght 7. no head flow numbers 8. no valve sizes 9. no compression 10. no ring design. I should be mad about time being waisted and Pete should be mad about waisted band with......lol, but your mad at me for asking? Hell I didnt even question the hp number...... I didnt even claim it was wrong or that I could build it? In fact by asking I m implying I d like to find out how to build it. BTW, I have a nice c5r sheetmetal intake forsale, it might work well on someones next engine......ashing 1600$ Theres only about 4200 in it.
  22. I didnt even try to start anything, I asked a resonable question..... I think it was as simple as, whats in it.......and the responce was bs....and then you guys start attacks with me? First , a stroked ls2 IS NOT A 6.0 iron block......A LS2 is an ALUMINUM block. I asked about the 415.....cause frankly a 415 inch ls engine is a pretty od size. I was actually curuios how it was arrived at, and why in the world it would be popular. As you all know, a 4.100 stroke moves the pin into the oil ringland, so they are not real popular cause you need to run a support ring for the oil ring. By far the most popular stroker crank is of course the 4.000 but to get to 415 you have like a .055 over bore? Just seems strange, but I was actually curious if there was a reason or different way? A 454 motown engine is ofcourse capabale of 610 on an engine dyno...and on a chassis dyno, that moves it down to 500 or less by most comparisons. I dont doubt that mendeola claims 23%, but I ve seen countless comparisons from people that engine dynoed and chassis dynoed and 33-40% is not uncommon at all in sand cars. I also dont doubt, that they run good. I just asked a simple question, whats in it and got a "stroked ls2 with mild cam" sorry if I was able to recogenize that as bs.....its not even an ls2 apparently. Nothing wrong with that btw, you should be proud to say its a 6.0 iron. Oh, and since you guys obviously cant stay on topic, regarding whats in an engine....and insist on personal attacks and red hearrings to other things, you should know that I wont go for such things. What are going to do next, call me names? Wow, I d love to find out how to build a 550-600 hp 415 ci iron block ls engine with just a mild cam........but for some reason I dont think the answer is going to find me. What is it, 224/228 591/591? Thats considered a mild cam to me......ofcourse it seems like that would peak about 5800 probably on a 400+ inch, so I dont think it would reach the hp number, maybe a 256/252/ 640/660 cam? To me thats not mild, but to someone else it might be, I guess thats why they give them numbers. That cam might peak around 7200 and that would get it a lot closer to those numbers thats forsure. Just for kicks Im going to run 6 degrees total at the dyno, just to see what the power change is from say 28. I ve never done it, so Ill try it. 6 degrees should turn the exhuats a nice red though. If you asked me, whats in an engine, I d say I dont know, or something like... its a 6.0 with 4.0 crank, .022 over so its a 405with a 12cc dish. Its got a 248/256 630/610 cam on a 118.5 and ported 317's that flowed 343 @600. Is taht so hard? 3 lines instead of 3 posts saying nothing?
  23. yea, everything on the internet is true.
  24. come on, no stroked ls2 with a mild cam is gonna put out 489 to the wheels.......what else? Everyone else is loosing 30%+ in the drivetrain , is yours different? What is it a 4.100 stroke? The very best cnc heads, a big cam......and decent compression......maybe?
