  5. This has NOTHING to do with Dumont Dunes OHV area but does effect other areas in and around Barstow, Victorville and Baker where some of you may ride. Take a look and attend a meeting if possible. Terry CALIFORNIA - BLM Releases Draft West Mojave Planning Area Route Network Project for Public Review Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber, The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released the Draft Amendment to the California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA) Plan and Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for the West Mojave Route Network Project, providing guidance and management direction for over three million acres of public lands in San Bernardino, Inyo, Kern, Riverside and Los Angeles counties. The release of the draft plan delivers a proposed solution for adaptive and responsible travel management planning and off-highway vehicle use within the WEMO planning area while protecting important resources and maximizing public accessibility in the desert. The plan also outlines conservation provisions for important wildlife species such as the desert tortoise, taking an active role in protection and recovery of their habitat. The BLM, in coordination with the public, has developed the most accurate and comprehensive route inventory of the planning area to date, including the cataloging of over 15,000 miles of travel routes. These efforts provide a new baseline for BLM management of recreational use within the planning area. The public and stakeholders assisted the BLM in identifying key land use issues within the planning area through a formal scoping process and a series of public meetings held in 2011 and 2012. The CDCA plan amendment would replace and clarify elements of the plan related to travel management networks and off-highway vehicle access, livestock grazing and recreation within the West Mojave (WEMO) planning area managed by the BLM's Barstow, Ridgecrest, Needles and Palm Springs Field Offices. The Draft SEIS analyzed the environmental impacts of travel management routes on special status species, cultural resources, recreation and other important resources. The plan does allow for the designation of routes in washes and it identifies additional trail mileage available for OHV use. There are proposed land closures in the draft plan and users should review how these closures will impact future OHV use in the project area. The draft plan, recently published in the Federal Register, marks the beginning of a 90-day comment period, ending June 4, 2015. Four public meetings have been scheduled to brief the public and gather public comments on the draft. All meetings will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will include a presentation, open house and an opportunity to provide written comments. The BLM will review input received through the public comment period when making a decision on the final plan. Meetings will be held as follows: Tues., March 31: Kerr-McGee Center, Pinnacles Room, 100 W California Ave, Ridgecrest Calif. Thurs., April 2: Hilton Garden Inn, 12603 Mariposa Rd, Victorville, Calif. Tues., April 7: Lone Pine Community Center, Stratham Hall, 138 Jackson St, Lone Pine, Calif. Wed., April 15: Yucca Valley Community Center Complex, Yucca Room, 57090 Twentynine Palms Highway, Yucca, Calif. Any additional meetings will be announced on the BLM Website at least 15 days in advance. For further information about the Draft SEIS, or for a copy of the document, please visit the BLM Websitehttp://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/cdd/west_mojave__wemo.html. Hard copies are available upon request from the California Desert District Office, 22835 Calle San Juan de Los Lagos, Moreno Valley, CA 92553 or from the BLM California State Office, 2800 Cottage Way, Suite W 1834, Sacramento, CA 95825. Thanks in advance and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC. Ric Foster Public Lands Department Manager BlueRibbon Coalition 208-237-1008 ext 107
  6. My understanding of solar and I may be wrong is the actual break even point is about 22 years. That's a long time to just break even. Here in Nv. you can't sell excess energy back to Nv. Energy company which holds a monopoly in this state. They are actually charging solar customers a higher fee than customers who have not gone solar. I am pretty convinced it's BS and I don't see it working financially for me.
  7. Pete, I do think input from the users would be helpful. It allows me to go over her head with hard copies if I need to in order to get things changed. Because what we are doing is not working it's the only thing I can think of. If nothing else it can be used as a "vent" for you and the other users. As of now she has heard the same complaints from John and I so much it's falling on deaf ears. It is going to take the users input to put a foot in her a$$. You have nothing to lose by trying it. If anybody sends in an e mail a blind copy to me would be appreciated. All info will be kept confidential unless we have to go to war over her head.
  8. Jim, I know you guys have to work but e mails, letters also work. The input from the users means more than me telling BLM over and over what the issues are. She becomes deaf to it in my opinion. So if your aving issues than speak up through the phone, letters or e mail or all of it. BTW we have had Saturday meetings in the past but because the public's turnout was so low it became non cost effective. There fore I have to be blunt and just say that it's your land that you have to fight to keep and use. You guys are going to get what you put in that's it in a nutshell. I do not believe she listens to the TRT at all. Terry
  9. There's a meeting in March and I suppose someone who was upset with things at Dumont could attend and voice those concerns? JUST A suggestion since it's always a quiet meeting with just the members of th sub-group, just maybe somebody might want to show up and tell them how they feel. I have been dog it fr 10 years and it's lonely on the table by myself!
  10. Gavin has always been great to deal with and Butch's is the place in Vegas for buggy stuff!
  11. No Jeep Club event this year. Because the Jeep Club membership is so small and the 2 main event coordinators have new jobs they just are unable to commit to putting on the event for this year. Future events are a maybe. Since it's the last 3 day weekend of the season I would expect a normal large crowd without the day trippers who come out to watch the races. Terry
  12. That is up to the BLM, at this time the Friends of Dumont Dunes are not sponsoring the clean up. I believe the BLM will have a small crew and a dumpster out there but it would best to call the Barstow office in February to see what there plans are. As of right now they are planning on the Saturday closest to the St Patricks day
  13. How's the power Mike? Is it like riding a quad just with a steering wheel?
  14. Pat I got no ride and am not going to go and be the camp b*tch so as they say on Shark tank" I'm out"
  15. Why not call Ken at Johnny Walkers? They have been fixing WW issues for years.
  16. I saw him yesterday. Great show but I would see if I could sell the tickets and go to the dunes if I had a car. Just saying it was a great time last year.
  17. careful of buying in Utah as they notify NV DMV that you bought it and DMV will nail you for sales tax
  18. Get some pads for your jacks. I have seen 3/4 " plywood to plastic ones with handles that make it easy to slide into place. I have had a set of those for about 15 years and they still work great and are easy to store. Bought them at camping world for about $80.00 which I thought was expensive then but after 15 years of use and still going they are cheap!
  19. Free day was Veterans day only. Sandawg, your exactly right as to what the issues are at Dumont and what they will continue to be as long as the current administration is in power. The road should be pretty good all year due to a new piece of equipment that they bought or are buying after the 1st of the year when grant money comes out. it can be pulled by a 1 ton truck and does not need a grader or operator to keep the road in good condition. As to fee and pass control I don't have an answer for you, yet. I am curious if anyone has seen the public safety sign that should be posted on the side of the upper visitor's building. I would like to know if it's been put up for the season or not. Please let me know when you make your next trip.
  20. It would appear that a Glamis guy is supposed to meet me tomorrow for them but if he no calls I will let you know
