  3. Thanks for the rub info Jodi...will have to try that out, but Jim doesn't do hot at all lol. We used mesquite chunks, wanted to do apple but they didn't have any. We just picked up a bunch of pork ribs to smoke next time, my favorite!
  4. Jim said that Mike had asked him a few questions on Sunday and Jim replied with pics, later he realized the texts never went through..sorry!! We have a Char Griller brand and bought the 'fire side box' for smoking. We tried with just the grill last time and found it was hard for us to keep a good temp and we had to open the grill too often. This weekend was our first time with the side box and it was a lot easier. Pauly is using this same set-up. Last time we used wood chips and this time we used the big chunks, we like the chunks better. If you use the chunks, it helps a lot to soak them in water a little while or they flame up and raise the temp quickly. Last time we didn't have a way to start the extra charcoal and that caused a problem with keeping it the proper temp, so we picked up a charcoal chimney and that thing works great. This weekend we did a 3.5lb pork butt and some beef back ribs...cooked them at 175-200 degrees for 5 hours. We also just picked up a meat thermometer that stays in the meat and has a wireless, digital readout gadget, so you can monitor the temp of the meat while cooking, I love it. We cooked the pork butt to 190 degrees in the center. Definately going to be doing a pork butt again and ribs...and tri tip, brisket...hmmm what else to try? We could use some suggestions for marinades, rubs and sauces....still working on those! We are going to try some of the tips about adding things to the water, those sound yummy.

  15. We didn't actually go into the canyon last weekend, but you could see from the entrance that it had been washed out. There wasn't standing water from what we could see and it wasn't soggy/muddy though it looked pretty rough and rutted. I'd say your best bet is to park and walk it when you get there just to make sure.
  16. Those dunes were tore up!! With all the people already at the little dunes they are only going to get worse and rain is forecasted on Wed and Thur, so they will still be wet. Everyone please be extra cautious, it's going to be very dangerous out there. Have fun!!
  17. If you're coming in from the highway...its passed the pay station on the way from the dunes.
  18. Unless the Blm shows up again this weekend to fill in the sink holes and clear the mud, rocks and debris from the road it doesn't look passable for motorhomes or large trailers. Not sure if a truck and flatbed could make it, can't tell how deep the 1st river is, but the mud is soggy and deep. There's a large amount of debris on the concrete, 2nd river. Not sure when blm will return, so for now the best area is Little Dumont.
  19. Once you get passed the ranger station it's just a large flat open desert area before the dunes, so you can park basically anywhere. Of course the closer you go to the dunes the softer it gets, also the left side of the entrance road is more hard packed and rocky than the right side. The dunes area is much smaller than Glamis, so you will be able to explore it all in a day without a problem. If you have dirt tires on then you could check out the Sperry Wash area which you will see right after you pass the pay station. Here is the link to the camp map if you haven't seen it... http://www.dumontduneriders.com/images/grid-map.jpg the numbers are pit toilets around the camping area.
  20. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cisco-Expert-E1000-Ultra-Wireless-N-Router/14066653 I use this cheapy router, Cisco Linksys E1000 ^^...to get Netflix to a LG blueray player, through 1 wall, about 20ft away and with 1 laptop running on the wireless. We have Cox high speed internet, whatever the basic service is, I don't know the tech stuff. Our desktop is super slow, but thats a computer issue not the connection. We have no issues with the blueray player and streaming Netflix to the TV. When I was reading some troubleshooting for a crappy Samsung player which we returned...it said the internet connection speed would cause that buffering delay. Pick up a new router, if it doesn't fix the problem then just return it. Mineurbiz is a computer guy, so I'd try his suggestions also .
  21. We arrived Tuesday evening and left Sunday afternoon...joined Captkllm, Barefoot Bob, BPGuy and their crew's camp Thursday evening, thanks for the fun times and hospitality everyone!! :hungry: Went on some great sandrail runs with David, Bob, James, Tim, Bert, Rob and Neal . David graduated from dune school and picked some great lines except once when he headed into the kiddie dunes ...Got some good quad rides in on Wed and Sun..headed out for a cruise on the quad early Sunday morning following some of the rails and ended up meeting up with the Eyeball crew...Barefoot Bob must have forgotten to shift out of 1st gear since a chick on a quad kept up!! Weather was COLD and not much wind most nights so the dunes were a bit rough...our entire camp didn't spend much time out by the camp fire, so were ready for some early morning rides. The crowd was better than Halloween, guess that's why there were less incidents. Still ran across a couple idiots in the dunes though....tip of the weekend- if you join a line on a dune run, jump in at the end and not right in the middle...especially if you can't keep up . We didn't have any major problems with anything, but a couple things added to the to-fix and to-do lists. No pics from us..can't compare to the quality of Tim, Rob and Neal's . Thanks for all the great pics guys!
  22. We transport the YFZ upright by turning off the gas and running it till the carb goes dry, haven't had any issues. If you have a full tank of gas it may leak out of the gas cap vent. edit...If you have the fuel injected YFZ then just stand it up.
  23. You want a class ABC rated extinguisher, it's a dry chemical and the most common type of extinguisher. Or a BC class which are sold as Auto/Marine specific. Class A puts out wood, paper, plastic Class B puts out gas, oil, grease, kerosene Class C puts out electrical The size is 2.5lbs. They are around $20.
