sand chick Posted June 15, 2009 Author Share Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) Holy..... what an AWESOME weekend!!!! Dune in June?? Who would have thought!!! Sat mornings ride was a little on the chilly side with some nice over cast clouds! Didn't need to take the long riding pants off till 3:00ish when I was done riding the quad or the day!! Dunes are wierd.. forming d shaped shelves that come at you at what seems to be no where! They look all rounded and the on the other side....drop off! Our friend Steve learn his lesson quick on Friday eve's run out to comp.. coming back..following that ledge that is there right next to the dunes.. well it ends abruptly in a 4-5 foot drop! He decided to go off that drop. I was right behind him and all of a sudden nothing but rear tires in the air... I hit the breaks and slowly slide down next to him.. a little shaken.. nothing broken. All is good! There is a huge hole.. bigger then a witches eye that has formed at the top of Banshee.. so you guys going out next weekend.. BE CAREFUL! You can't see that thing at all when you come up on it and its deep! New car rides like slicing through butter!! Comp has whoops going from the bottom where everyone runs right up to the top.. doesn't seem like its even hat steep anymore... I was even able to stop and take some pics from up there. The old side where they used to run though is smoooooth and nice and steep! The road sucks! Broke our shock hoop coming in. The only real thing that sucked about duning in June.... THE FLIES!! There were a few other like us out there! Temp when we left today was 85 at noon and it was warmer today then all day yesterday! When we checked temps yesterday it was 72 11:00ish..had a nice breeze blowing the whole time with an occasional gust! Pics to follow... but I really really need a new camera! They are wierd.... couldn't get a good run going in the smaller dunes..bigger ones were not too bad to run in We are right by that hole at the top of Banshee If you look hard in the upper left you can see two black spots.. those are these people who first off stopped by us at the finger dune, get out of their car and start raking.. yes I said raking.. the top of the finger dune.. about an hour or so later there they are hiking to the top of thhe dunes.. with the rake.. he is pulling her along with the rake.. they make it to the top.. and start raking up there. Thanks for coming out Steve and Claudia. It wouldn't have been nearly as fun with out you two out there. The new car is just awesome. It fits the way I like to drive perfectly. I can't wait to drive it again. Even got to wheelie a little with sandchicken in the car. . I will put up a few more pics of the car in the thread about the car. Definitley looks like summer dunes out there....very hard to read with no lines but smooth as all heck. I'm jealous- I wish my car was ready to go and it fell on a different weekend. sand chick Posted June 15, 2009 Author Share Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) The other thing I forgot to mention is that the angle of the sun all day, makes for very few shadows and reading the dunes even more difficult. Pete, I wish you guys would have been able to make it out as well. It was such a good time. I spent quite some time practicing rolling and riding razors on the finger dune, it was awesome! I even followed those guys on some of the steep stuff to the west of comp! I figure if I get at least one trip out a month during the summer I won't be quite so rusty on kickoff! Sooo.. anyone see a weather report for July?? I wish he would hurry up with those go pro videos! Raptor0206 Posted June 15, 2009 Share Posted June 15, 2009 I got a few pics as well from sunday, we got there around 11:30 just as Mike and Jodi were loading up so we didn't bother to say hi i will get ya some better pics once by buddy gives them to me when he gets back to Minnesota (he was visiting and helping us move this weekend ) The dunes were soooooooooooo hard to read, a lot of drop off razors like 10 to 40 foot drops, comp is whooped to hell all the way up but not huge whoops. there was a nice witch eye at the top so you could stop and not worry about anything rolling down hill. and like Jodi said the sun was a huge factor cause you couldnt see anything until you were right on it, i smacked my junk on the tank because of that These pics and videos are from my old a$$ 3.2 megapixels sony, sorry no pro Pete here Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
