Foxysandchick
Terry, That is what I thought but wanted to hear it from someone with "experience and authority" ...and people need to know what the process would be... I don't think many are willing to file a report in their name or to testify if needed or to approach a camp and be obvious about taking pics of license plates and trash piles being left...maybe I'm wrong, but I personally won't be looking for that conflict. flavtfan
The threat of legal action with hefty fines written in big letters on a Neighborhood watch kind of sign would at least be somewhat of a deterent as long as it is placed where someone can see it driving in. I think most wouldn't be looking for any type of conflict, especially since alcohol will more than likely be present.
turbo_bruce
so we the duners need to do the law enforcement that i think we might pay for (taxes and pass) that they have no time to do and y is that???woof woof
ynot
so we the duners need to do the law enforcement that i think we might pay for (taxes and pass) that they have no time to do and y is that???woof woof So the town you live in has a Police Officer on every corner and you have no crime where you live? I just put out a couple of options, you can do what ever you would like to do about it, b*tch and moan or see if you can find a ranger when you see someone packing up and leaving a pile of trash in the middle of camp. Watch how fast they get escorted back to pick it all up.
turbo_bruce
i dont just b*tch and moan . i have donated my time more then onece for the better of dumont . i do voice my idea on how to fix the problems i see. a problem i see out there may be time management on the police part i do see alot of standing around and bull sh*tting out there. well they might be on break but dam how many breaks do they take . ( how many cops dos it take to screw a light bulb in) this trash problem is a problem that has been talked about alot so its no secret . so instead of standing around down by the kiosk dont think it take more then one cop down there. may be do some cop work and find some of these trash pep. they have no problem find some one with out a flag in the flats. and by the way there is vary little crime were i live just lucky. not taking a jab at you just talking

Drive through your camp and cite you for a can that fell out of a garbage can or a piece of paper that is lying under a rock. The problem is that the trash is not evident on the flats till the group leaves, then it's ususlly to late. Comp Hill trash is another issue alltogether. Their are not enough LEO's to walk through or stop at a camp and tell them to pick up their trash because until they leave it is not garbage and again it's to late. Also I can just imigine the problems with the cops coming through and hasselling people right and left to pick up after themselves, there aren't enough of them to defend themselves if it was to get ugly in a crowd that large. If you have never experienced a riot or near riot consider yourself to be very lucky. It is terrifying, you have no control and if they are after you in uniform it could get ugly real fast. i can just imigine the press on the use deadly force if they were being overwhelmed. This is an education issue, there is no other way to get it taken care of without making it a bigger issue then it already is and or could become. I appreciate your support and assistance in picking up out there. Most of us do so it is unfortunate that this discussion really only is about a small minority. dunefreak
You guys are wasting too much energy on this. The dunes aren't getting shut down because of a pile or two of trash. Just pick it up if you see it and move on. Litterbugs are never going to change their ways. They are everywhere and don't ever seem to be caught. dunefreak
Also if you're so worried about the trash causing the dunes to get closed...stop posting pics of it on the internet and talking about it so much! Lol
ynot
I guess that's what I was trying to say Pete, I just got a little involved in the explanation. It comes down to "Pack more out than you pack in every trip"!!!!

Terry so what you are saying is it is to hard for the cops to do there job. i would have the cops drive around on sunday and look for campers that are on the way out and have a look at there camps . that is a start . do the cops work on sunday???? and yes i have been in the mid of a riot 2 times once at the one at glamis and the riots in LA i lived on 79st and crenshaw a few block from the start of it . there are ways to try to fix problem but saying it to hard or dangerous to do there job well that the job that they get paid to do. and doing nothing will get you nothing
sandawg
So what you are saying is it is to hard for the cops to do there job. So 1 or 2 leo's are suppose to go into a camp with 10 or 20 people, maybe drunk or druged out?????? I don't think that is considered their job! i would have the cops drive around on sunday and look for campers that are on the way out and have a look at there camps . that is a start do the cops work on sunday???? Agreed but they are manning the exit to catch the cheap yahoos that snuck in to get money to keep the dunes open. and yes i have been in the mid of a riot 2 times once at the one at glamis and the riots in LA i lived on 79st and crenshaw a few block from the start of it. And your a LEO ?. it to hard or dangerous to do there job well that the job that they get paid to do. And if you were paid to keep the peace you would dive into the middle of the riot to get yourself shot or beat to death??????? Really? Just my feelings! Not trying to start an argument just talking about what is real, what is practicle and what the mission is of LEO"S. And that is to keep the peace and get to go home to their family's at night Edited November 21, 2012 by sandawg
tatooedwhtboy
I can tell you the problem .....its the generations, kids/young adults have not been taught to respect their surroundings let alone themselves or others. Parents these days have to start taking time for their kids and teach them right from wrong and respect. But then again it is hard to teach respect to others when you don't have it to begin with. Its a sad place this world has become. Parents are scared of their kids and kids take FULL advantage of it.

turbo_bruce
wow you make it sound like every one out there are druged out gun holding thugs. and they the cops have no problem walking in to these camps to check for passes . and if there was a riot yes there job is to take care of it . there job is to serve and protect . you dont pick and choose what law you will enforce you do your best to enforce all law . they get paid by the hour i dont think standing around in groups talking to each other is good time management . if you were paying some one to do a job (and you do) you would need and make sure they were working the hole time you were paying them for. this trash problem could be some thing that could be done on there slow time Edited November 21, 2012 by turbo_bruce
Foxysandchick
Here is my point...not that anyone cares though.... It isn't so much about trash in general being left behind since "that isn't going to get the dunes closed" though it "will make it harder to keep the area open" (??)... but for me it is about the specific items that are being left...a knife, nails, large wood staples, sharp pieces of metal, rebar, broken glass, a screwdriver, sharp pumpkin carving tools...I wouldn't like to run over these items and get a flat on the truck, trailer, sandrail or quads and have my weekend ruined and cost me money for repairs, because some idiot left all these items in the camping area. I also wouldn't like for me, my dogs or kids (if I had kids) to get injured on these items. Foxysandchick
Hmmm.... It was suggested to drive up to a camp that is packing up that looks to be leaving their trash, get out and take a picture of the trash and license plates and make sure to get a good look at the driver(s) to be able to later identify the subjects and "that usually scares the hell out of them and they pick up their sh*t before they go"....but 1 or 2 LEO's can't approach the same camp, because it might have 10-20 people that "maybe drunk or drugged out"??? Don't forget that they likely have guns! I thought it was determined in the drug dog thread that there is not a drug problem at Dumont ....and I'd sure hope that people getting ready to leave and drive on the highway with those big a$$ trailers aren't drunk... That is the same reason I pick this stuff up when I see it and move on. My point was directed at those who think it will make a difference to sit here and beat it into the ground. They argue about a possible solution and over-analyze how we can catch the litterbugs. Litterering...it's been going on for generations and will continue to. That's just how people are. It sucks, but you can't expect to change these people nor can you really expect to catch them all. For the record (not directed at you), rangers HAVE come into my camp on several occasions in the past and threatened to write us a ticket unless we pick up trash such as metal, glass etc that was laying in the sand. Even though it wasn't ours. So I believe the LEOs are doing their job. sh*t, now see what happened? I wasted valuable energy getting sucked into this conversation that is going nowhere. If it has to go on, let's at least make it funny. Barefoot bob...let's hear what you think!
Foxysandchick
Agreed... I'd rather there be more education.. like better signs, pamphlets with passes and registration stickers, or for LEO to hand out...than enforcement, wouldn't need the involvement of LE if people were better educated...but TWB said it well, can't teach respect. Bob is too busy trashing the dunes to be debating Edited November 21, 2012 by Foxysandchick
desertrider71
The reality is there are scumbags out there. They are who they are and we cant change them. I propse this to all of you complaining. Meet up at comp Sunday at 8 am. Side by sides and rails hang a trashbag off your rollcage or hold it out so people can see it. Line up a quad or two to take a line through the dunes. They stop at trash and the rzr or rail pulls up with the bag. We can do a group ride and clean up what we come across. Its better than nothing. i will be there with my trash bag out ! Edited November 22, 2012 by desertrider71
ynot
8:00 AM? your kidding right? No problem with the plan or idea but i don't think you'll get a large response at 08:00. Just saying, maybe after the morning run and then come back over and do an easy ride thru the areas to clean them p so you don't have to worry about the lack of shadows or definition on the dunes. But good Idea!

goodguys75
I made sure to teach my kids at a young age not to litter....when we drive around and they see people throwing things out of car windows, they tell me and tell me it is wrong...makes me proud to know they are learning good habits.....I really do hate people that throw trash outside the windows of there cars..reallly, you cant wait to get home and throw it out..... desertrider71
Good call Terry. I didn't get any takers( I will give the meet time more thought next time ! ). I still got to clean up a bunch of trash, one camp left everything including broken bottles and the biggest twisted easy up I have ever seen. It took two trips to get it all. One for the trash and one to get the worlds largest easy up. I wish it wasn't that way but it is what it is. We did have a great weekend and went on Neil Rideouts group ride so it makes it all come full circle. Its a small giveback in my eyes. FE135
I went by comp Saturday morning and it was a trash yard. Empties everywhere. I took some pictures. Later when we came back, it was all gone. Thanks to who ever cleaned it up. Super hero!
