Nick I know what you're saying, but the same can happen to someone who has a $10K rail and a $50K rail. Remember this story...?

Uh..no. I'll disagree w/ that. Steve isn't gonna get over confident w/ the car. He has driven my car and did damn well. He is extremely cautious and I think if he bought a cheaper car like Sand~~Snake's, he'd want to step up in no time flat. Why waste time w/ a car like that when he has his eye on something he knows he wants like a LONG travel. Should I have settled for a standard travel VW car when I bought my car??.....no. I had never driven in the dunes EVER before I bought my car and am extremely glad I purchased the car I did rather than starting cheap. I would have probably gotten extremely bored w/ a car like your're talking about as I already know Steve will too. In my opinion, you don't need a "cheaper" car to learn how to drive in the dunes. Trust me, I know you don't need a high dollar car either to have fun, but Steve knows what he wants. That's all.

think again, Nick :mc_smiley: Did you ever think as a first car, it may get MORE abuse as he may be on the gas & brakes more requiring MORE shifting rather than a faster paced driving style which is actually easier on drivetrain. Just my .02

That might be an excpetion though, Nick. I think anyone could tow w/ that truck w/ their eyes closed. :mc_smiley: That thing almost drives itself. Towing w/ an SUV is a lil more difficult at times. I know from towing w/ my Tahoe.

FNG needs much advise on Truck / Toyhauler without brand names
dunefreak replied to OIF 5-7's topic in Toyhauler/ RV Talk
Yeah, most trucks nowadays have the tow haul mode. It definitley helps out w/ towing. It eliminates the whole hunting for a gear and also helps a bunch when going down a hill w/ a big load. I personally would stay away from a manual trans, but that's just my .02. I'd go big if I were you. If you don't- it will just be a pain in the a$$ to get everything loaded (like me every damn trip ). Even if you don't need it- extra space is always nice to have. Good luck w/ your decision. -
Yep, that chit pisses me off too, Dave. I try and keep an eye out as much as possible for kids playing along the tops of the dunes when I go blasting down the dune, but if they weren't there in the first place there wouldn't be any danger of getting hit in the first place. I personally think that the finger dune is no place for kids to play on. Maybe at the bottom of it, but not on top. If you have kids I would expect you to realize that people will be riding across the top of the finger and that isn't a safe place for a kid. It's also dangerous when two idiots on opposite sides of the finger decide to tape off the dune on both sides. Then when you go driving down the dune in a sandrail or if you come up on someone coming the other way, there almost isn't any room for you to safely pass through. Sometimes people even use rebar to stake off the tops- now that's dangerous.

I am thinking of also maybe bringing a couple beers that weekend.

hey jms...did you see the pics I took of your car in the beginning of this thread??

I first blow out all the sand from the seats and cracks w/ a blow gun and then just wash it like I wash my truck w/ a sponge and bucket of soapy water. I just be careful not to spray the seats w/ water. Once I wipe down the car w/ a towel to dry it I just use Simple Green and a terry cloth or towel to detail everthing else like the A-arms and small stuff.

Hell I can't beleive I forgot this one or that anyone else didn't mention it... On the way to Dumont on top of Mt Springs is the Mountain Springs Saloon. Good times! Superdave, Sand~~Snake & I stopped there on the way back from Dumont one time- I gotta say it was worth stopping for sure. What a blast we had. Cold drinks, cool peeps, place has some real character, and good live music- some good ol classic rock and some new stuff too. We met some very cool people there that day. I shouldn't be telling you this though...I forget the biker's name whom I was b.s ing with, but he asked me if I had ever been there before. I said no this is the first time we stopped in. He say "ok cool, but shhhhhhhhhhhhh- don't you go tellin anyone about this place. It's our (the bikers) own little secret. We don't need no more peoples findin out about dis place!" He was a little hammered, but I understood what he meant. It's a cool little place. Sand~~Snake.... SandSnake & Superdave...
