  1. I just wanted to post an update since I have not listed the cleanup date yet on our events page or calendar. I got with Jason from Friends of Dumont Dunes and he still needs to talk with BLM as far as if, how, and when cleanup will happen this year. It will probably still come together sometime in the middle of March, but that is all I have right now. I will definitely post an update and date as soon as it all gets decided on. I know some people have been asking so I wanted to post what I knew so far.

  2. Where to start.... What a great trip once again. This weekend never disappoints! Got in Thursday noon and unloaded and just hung out at camp. Thursday night was Tri-tip at Dan and Amanda's trailer, effen great food! Thanks you two for putting this together. Friday got up and saw more people had arrived overnight and it was shaping up to be a big circle (if you can call it that). Did some riding, trying to take it easy before the round up on Saturday. Friday night shenanigan's at the fire and off to bed. Saturday was the day! Over 50 cars in the camp all lined up, even went out of camp so a few cars made a second line. After cars and coffee was the big ride. Myself and Neil headed out to get a good location for photos as the caravan went by. It was so cool watching you all strung out across many dunes at the same time. I tried my best to get you all but I know I did miss 1 or 2 of you as my camera had other ideas! Then photos at the drags as the big boys were showing off. The raffle was amazing once again! Everyone's donations made this event a great success. I managed to snag me a fuel jug! The bidding for the tow hitch cover, you had to be there to see how nuts it was, the money was going to the website so the bidding got way out of hand which was a good thing. The rest of the time was spent just goofing off and getting in a ride or 2. Sunday the weather couldn't have been better. Pete, Anna, Josh and myself had one last ride and Pete had is drone overhead. Not a super fast ride which was good as I wanted to load my car up under it's own power and head home soon. Thanks to Pete and Anna for once again allowing me to crash in their trailer. And to all my friends that I only see there, it was good seeing you and I am looking forward to Round-up 10! I will load up a few favorites here but the big photodump is on my website- https://www.619actionphoto.com/Desert/Dumont-Dunes-Dune-Buggy-Round-Up-9/i-gnthh4s Feel free to look for your favorites and download them for free. Until next time. Tim

  3. We rolled in Thursday night. The weather was breezy at times, but it was really nice. So nice we hung out around the fire until 2AM. I was excited to get my car back out after some recent suspension and tire upgrades. Plus I acquired another new toy...a couch! Polaris Sportsman 700. I took the couch, also referred to now as Pedro, out for a morning cruise to see how it did and check out what mother nature had groomed. Then we headed out for our first buggy run and Josh's spindle decided to break in half. We pulled it off and took it back to camp to get welded up in order to get the car back. Theron and I stayed and played security guard with the help of some cold beers in the cooler. We got it all back together and we headed back. Josh was convinced the spindle wasn't strong enough to drive on anymore, but Theron made sure to give him that push to weld it up on the inside as well so he could dune the rest of the weekend. Everyone came together to help out. On the way back to camp from the spindle incident, we made a few rips up comp hill. I noticed my car was falling on its face over 4000 rpm. I've been dealing with an issue all season and I was getting pissed off I haven't figured it out yet. So long story short I took it out to test a few things and I blew up my motor. 😥 I had excessive blow-by coming out of my breather and one or two cylinders were not hitting anymore. I kinda felt like this was going to happen, but not on day 1 of this weekend. I was really bummed. Luckily I had friends to cheer me up. I hopped in Theron's car and Anna rode in Dan's so we could all go up to Sunset Hill. Saturday morning it was really gusty at times, but the W finally calmed down. I took the couch quad out again and ended up all the way across HWY 127 exploring some ohv trails in Anvil Canyon. Along the way I spotted an old memorial up on a hill between Little D and Big D. The message in the concrete read LOVED THE DESERT. Quickly realizing I didn't bring any water or supplies, I decided to head back. I was pretty far out there. You can barely see little Dumont in the distance in this pic. I got back to camp and found out the guys still hadn't returned from their buggy run. Gary and Josh came back but it was to get a pully for Gary's car. On the run, it fell off. Ben stopped to get it as it was rolling down a hill, then got stuck! Then Theron hooked up to him and got stuck and then one more buggy got stuck. They had 3 buggies tied together with tow straps so tight they had to cut one off. LOL It's this was our first dune trip of something. After fixing Gary's car and then bringing out a floor jack, everyone finally got Theron's car extracted from the earth. LOL VID_20210306_135334615.mp4 Later that day everyone else went out while I cruised around taking dune pics and managed to snap some of the crew. Looks like Greg's car is Pacman and eating the buggy in the distance. haha Josh and Greg had a little more fun for the camera. Sunday we all packed it up and headed home. I have a ton of stuff to fix. First a buggy motor swap, then some more upgrades to switch over to 5 lug front wheels from spindle mount wheels, then fix my water heater and furnace which BOTH decided to take a crap in the same weekend. It's always something! Duning is constant work but so worth it when everything is clicking and working right. I was really bummed I couldn't take full advantage of those amazing dunes this weekend. They were so epic while my car lasted. Just not the same on an old man quad. haha Big thanks to all my friends that made a sh*tty weekend still a super fun one. Saturday night we had ATC races, giant human ball fights, guess that crappy 80's song, and lots of fun around the fire. Time to get to work and get back out before summer hits. I'm not done yet!

  4. The 20/21 dune season has finally come to a close. It was an interesting season for sure with the COVID and all. More so this season than ever were the dunes the perfect escape to normal for many people. It was one of the only outlets for recreation or getting out of the house and not feeling the pressures from the pandemic. No matter what is going on in the world, pandemic or not, Dumont always offers solitude and the perfect setting to turn your brain off. If that's not what your after, it's also the perfect place to party and go nuts with limited impact on others. Regardless of the type of dune trip you are after, I think we can all admit Dumont is great "reset" that all of our brains need from time to time. I hope everyone found that reset on every trip you managed to squeeze in this season. Although the season is over, we all still manage to get out and enjoy some part of the outdoors. So don't be a stranger. Pop in on the forum and let us know what you are up to. We don't shut the site down during the off-season, so please utilize it to keep it alive and fresh. Many people have turned to social media these days and we get it. It's easy and convenient, but please keep in mind we do this for the community and love you guys. Show us some support and we'll see you in the sand in October!

  5. What a good time! My rail is broke so I brought the Baja Bug and thought it wouldn't be much fun but I was wrong. It was a blast! Great seeing everyone I haven't seen in a long time. Big thanks to Pete and Anna for continuing this great event. The raffle was crazy! The photos I took are ready and available to download. The Gallery is setup for free digital download. 8. Once again, my only trip to the dunes and its the best weekend for it! #10 is in the books, I have been to every one and they get better each year. Always meeting new people and seeing old friends is why I go. The dunes are just an excuse for me to drag the car along. I took a ton of photos, most came out great. A few.... well not so much but it was fun none the less. There are some really nice cars in this group, and tons of horsepower. As always, thanks to Pete and Anna for letting me crash in their trailer for the weekend. And to Dan and Amanda for Thursdays dinner of Tri-Tip and sides. I am already looking forward to #11. Here are the links to all the pictures. Feel free to download them (right click and save) and share them. Make sure to tag dumontduneriders and buggyroundup2022 in your photos! Oh yeah, check out the first photo here, I managed to get the tire breaking off of the car at Comp! 10. So not a single one of us checked out the pics? We must all be gettin’ old! I don’t even think my back or hips could tolerate her offer of humping at least once a day. Hope all of you dune peeps have been staying healthy, happy, and well. Life’s speeding along at a breakneck pace so smell those roses on occasion. Been a little while since I hit up the DDR site but was needing to get me a little sand drama fix since the GD site has been down for a while. Sure do miss Dumont and I hope to return someday but probably not looking favorable. The past three seasons I have been to the dunes a total of three times and each one was for the Veterans Day Ceremony at Glamis. Going to be selling my RZR in the next few months and I’ve already sold two toy haulers over the past year. Crazy market for recreational vehicles going on. I sold one for $750 less than I paid for it in 2006. Not bad rent for 16 years! Sold a 2009 Vortex last month for $4500 MORE than what I paid for it a little over three years ago. Don’t think I’ll have such luck with the RZR.lol Anyways, good to read that folks are still getting out and enjoying our awesome dunes. Y’all take care ya hear.👍

  11. WOW! I am speechless at the turn out we had for the clean up this year! We rolled in Thursday night so we could spend Friday duning, as we knew the clean up event would take most of the day Saturday. We spent a short time visiting around the campfire before going to bed. Up early Friday morning, but had to wait for the second ride of the day as I had homework to finish. But got in the mid morning run. It was a good one! Fast and nice lines. The black cloud started rolling in close and we made it back to camp just in time for the rain to start. So we played some dominos in the motorhome and waited it out. The sky cleared up and the rain stopped just in time for the sunset run. Which was another great one. Sand was wet on top, but dry underneath. We watched the sun fade in the sky and headed back to camp for dinner and campfire stories. Jason rolled in and we had shots in the motorhome to celebrate the start of the Clean Up Weekend. We mapped out a game plan for the event and headed to get a good nights sleep. Saturday morning we got busy getting ready. The Pink Box Doughnuts arrived and the coffee was flowing at the event area. I ran over to the BLM area to see if they needed any help to get the ball rolling. Jumped in and started handing out garbage bags to get the line moving along. The amount of people who turned out for the event was incredible! It was like it used to be back in the early 2000's. Maybe even more! It was exciting to see how many people showed up and cleaned up! Thank you all, each one of you. You cared, you showed up and you filled one large dumpster to overflowing. It was time to head over to the clean up weekend event site near bathroom #4. The delicious food was almost ready to be served. @JeepingJay36 worked his butt off on the preparing another great BBQ lunch this year! Thank you for everything you do for this event! Just before we got started on the raffle, the board of Friends of Dumont Dunes had an official meeting and I was voted in as the newest board member filling in the role of secretary. I can't wait to see what the future holds. The quick draw and raffle prizes were off the chain! Even a full set of Toyo tires donated by the event sponser Dirt 2 Dunes Powersports. So many vendors, shops, businesses and individuals donated some amazing items! It took a while but we finally got through them all! We broke from picking up after the event in just enough time for a sunset cruise. We enjoyed the empty dunes as everyone else was busy watching the drags. Got in one last ride this morning before packing up and heading home. 201 days til October! See you then Dumont! See you then!

  13. I'll be out helping with whatever is needed. I'm also the point of contact for anyone wanting to donate prizes from Las Vegas, that can't make it to the clean up event. I'll be available the next few weeks to meet up and collect donations. If you need me to get your donation picked up shoot me a DM! I'm also personally donating some "kid friendly" prizes. The kiddos always get overlooked when it comes to the prize fun, but they're always so eager to help out!

  14. Hi all. I hate that my first post is under these circumstances but I wanted to let everyone know last evening my nephew was on the tire swing by himself when it collapsed. I’m grateful nothing happened to him but he and I felt really bad that whomever built it with they’re money and time spent for all of us duners to enjoy with our friends and family is broken. I’m am not great with a welder but can someone point me in the right direction I will gladly pay for it to be fixed or get them there favorite beer. Thank you Gary

  15. This was the first year we missed Halloween but I can definitely say we didn't miss it. lol We skipped it on purpose to get out and enjoy the dunes without the crowds and noise. We rolled in Friday night and it was really nice. I managed to get stuck in the softest spot in camp, but @lvnalolife pulled me out. Then after we got settled and unloaded, a camp pulled up nearby and here comes the mariachi music from their RZR. I thought this was happened on holiday weekends? no? They drove away but parked about 1000 ft from camp blasting it at 3AM. I drove out there to have a little talk with them and they were cool enough to turn it down...until I got back to camp and then it went right back up. So I headed back out to ask them to turn it down again. They did but then just drove another few hundred feet away and cranked it back up. Super annoying since I was much more polite then I anticipated on being. Saturday morning we woke up to the damn W. It wasn't horrible but it was a bit annoying. We got a really good dune run in. The dunes were super smooth. Very soft and some unpredictable spots though! We stopped at Talladega for a break. On the way back from our ride, we took the south end back to go look for a memorial that was placed on top of the dunes. A lady (wife of the man who passed last Halloween weekend) posted to the DDR FB group about it. I suggested we relocate it to a safer and more appropriate place, Memorial Hill. She agreed so we went looking for it. To my surprise, I drove right up to it. It was just up the dune from that steep valley behind Comp. It was already knocked down and laying in the sand. We picked it up and headed back to camp with it. I built a wood base for it since the top of Memorial Hill is nothing but solid rock. We would stack rocks on the base to keep it upright. So the whole crew headed over there to put it up. The sand has blown in to form a small dune almost higher than the cable fence. @tmerrell and me John's memorial is now is a much better place and his wife is super thankful. I stopped to visit the memorial for @sanddunesaddict which we put up years ago. Slightly weathered, but it's still looking good. Back at camp we all relaxed and waited for the W to calm down. It really didn't but we headed out to dune anyways. It wasn't bad once you got out in the dunes, but man there was some sketchy stuff out there. We drove right off a dune because there was no transition. It just dropped off and was square edged top and bottom. The car took it ok and Lou B managed to do the same behind us. We stopped over at Sunset hill and spent a good hour and a half or so over there. The weather was perfect and it was super relaxing. We stayed until it got dark and the moon came out. Back at camp was the usual...make some dinner and crack some beers around the fire. The weather was clam and thankfully there was no more loud music from our neighbors. A little later into the night, a RZR flipped over backwards on the 2nd finger dune. that's how steep the dunes were! He was ok but before they could get it uprighted, a RZR crashed or tipped on the steep face hill. They managed to get him down and everyone seemed ok. Sunday morning it was still pretty breezy. We helped a guy get his toyhauler unstuck and then EMS rolled in because a guy went off a similar dune to what I went off but he injured his lower back. Life flight came out and flew him to the hospital but he'll be ok they said. I was bummed because I hadn't been able to fly my drone all weekend. It finally calmed down though and I took it for a quick flight over camp. We pretty much just relaxed all day and hung out before heading home. It was a short trip, but a great one spent with our friends. I am happy to report the buggy performed flawlessly and ran great. We will be back out for buggy roundup next month unless I get the itch for another off weekend. I sure missed Dumont this summer.

  16. What will be nice is when someone get hurts . Like this passed weekend (Easter weekend ) there was no one out there from BLM ,Rangers ,ect. to be able to help the injured . The road was so bad coming in . the fire truck from Baker , the ambulance from Pahrump and the CHP got beat to hell getting in there . Hopefully the two found in the dunes ejected from there machine will make it . So if for nothing other then getting medical help to people that get hurt faster and safer . This road should of been paved a long time ago . Glad to see it getting done

  19. What an awesome weekend. It was so great seeing everyone and meeting so many new people at this year's buggy roundup. Thank you all for coming out and making this trip such a fun time. It has evolved into something that everyone always looks forward to every season. "Best trip of the season!" We didn't get in until late so I'll have to share more later. I believe we had 54 cars at sandcars and coffee. Please post any photos, stories, or memories you have from the weekend!

Thanks again to Pete and Anna along with everyone else who helped put this on. I can't wait to see the pics Neal and Tim took.

  24. We camp away from most people. We run mostly electric heat in the TH so a quiet Inverter generator is essential at night and not to disturb others. In that case then the propane central heat so we can turn off the generator. This uses gasoline at 1/3 the rate of burning propane. Much easier to refill the generator than dealing with propane too. Comical looking isn't it? We pick up others trash left behind. We can say for sure in Dumont it's changed in the past 20 years from a shopping bag full to 6 or 7 trash bags full each trip. But still 99% of Dumonts visitors are good campers, leave nothing but firewood behind. Its the 1%'ers than makes us all look bad. Before the pit toilets were installed it was much worse. That girl you see out there with a trash bag and a German Shepard is the wife gleaning what other left behind. We recently RV camped at Jean Dry lake and collected bullet ridden TV sets, sofas, shade loungers and Terribles was kind enough to let us use their dumpster. Wife says when other campers see us out picking up trash they tend to be more conscientious and not so often leave a messy campsite. Wife and our German Shepard picking up campsite trash: We stopped off at Ricks Rollin' Smoke in Vegas and some employees recognized the wife from picking up trash at the dunes. They comp'd our meals and drinks. We didn't realize once it but the music were were playing not too loud had an "acoustic bounce". It was fascinating, we had no clue until the campers from a football field away rolled up ask us to play some more after we turned it off. "We like that you didn't play that damn Banjo Music others play." they told us. I think they were referring to Country Music. So we hold that thought and don't play any music if campers are within ear shot reach of the sound.

  26. While part of your statement is true, you have to remember this is America and one of our freedoms is being to listen to whatever music you want. You can even speak whatever language you want as well. It's not a law to speak English, however I feel if you are a citizen of this country you probably should. I'm just saying, not all of the Mexican population is like what you describe. The majority of them are respectable duners. Posts like this divide us and cause hate therefore only make the problem worse. There are bad apples in every group and color. I see alot of white teenagers driving side x sides at unsafe speeds and distances from camps. They are downright dangerous a-holes and have clearly had zero parenting. I agree the mariachi (and all) music goes a bit too late and way too loud. Many of them are pretty disrespectful in that department. I wish we could come to some sort of agreement when it comes to music out there. It's actually a BLM rule that nobody follows.

  27. Well the season has officially come to a close for us. It has been quite the rollercoaster of a month for me. So I'll quickly fill you in on my buggy motor drama. The short version is this. I have been chasing a low power/pinging issue with my car since last season. Two trips ago the motor went south as the rings were burned up (tons of blow by and low compression). I basically finished it off after 11 hard years of duning and I found out the timing belt had jumped time one tooth. That was my problem all along. Then I replaced the motor and went back out a few weeks ago only to blow the new motor up! I think I had a wastegate issue, it overboosted to 12+ psi and it it went boom. It put three holes in the block. I found another motor and thrashed to get it in and running. So this was our last trip of the season unless we blow this thing up again! lol I am been super stressed to get it done and all the bugs worked out because were going to St Anthony this summer. Finally after all these years! Anyways, here's my trip report. We arrived Friday night. The weather was awesome. We downed what seemed like 100 beers around the fire until the W switch flipped around midnight or so. We knew the weather was gonna suck, but we I had no other choice in the matter. I needed to get some time on this damn car! We set our alarms to get up Saturday morning and get out before the wind. Well, there was no such thing. We were up, but the wind was already howling. I went to fire my car up and it didn't start. My head is pounding from the previous night's bad decisions and now I gotta diagnose why half my fuse block has no power. lol I finally figured it out. It was a broken solder joint on a power feed. I got it fixed up and we headed out in an attempt to do a dune run. The dunes were so razored out and the sand was just flying off the dunes making it impossible to dune any kind of line. So I just sort of skirted around the outside of the south end and then found some "lines" in the dunes toward the north pole. It wasn't too bad out there but it was breezy for sure. Driving back to camp was pretty miserable. I wasn't sure I was even going to be able to put my car under a load in 3rd gear at this point because we had to drive so slow. The dunes were basically summer dunes. There were so many razorbacks and sketchy spots. Our normal lines were screwed. Back at camp we spent several hours inside waiting and hoping we'd get a break. It wasn't looking good. 20210424_120425.mp4 About 2 PM it finally calmed down a little bit and we headed back out. I found out only one of my fans was working so we went back to camp so I could fix it. It ended up being another bad connection near the fuse box. It was an easy fix but then the W came back on strong again! Damn it. Finally around 6:00 it was absolutely gorgeous. We got a full, solid dune run in and stopped in the dunes to enjoy the peace and quiet. We had the place all to ourselves and the views were awesome! We ran into some friends on Sunset Hill before going back to camp. Gotta love Jason's shirt! haha Back at camp the weather was still great. I was finally able to relax knowing the car ran good and was fixed. Sunday we slept in, relaxed, and drank mimosas. On the way out this little dude bid us a farewell until next season!

  31. Drove in yesterday evening around 6pm. The water is getting high over the concrete due to people blocking off a large pool right next to it so I'm gonna bring a shovel over later and fix it so it flows again and the road doesn't wash away.** **I've been informed the BLM made the pool so I will leave it alone** There are maybe 7 rigs out here total right now. It's a beautiful day!! Maybe 6mph breeze, sunny, and nice at 9:30am. Last night was extremely windy so the dunes look crazy sharp. Check out the pics!

Not enough road crews to fix quickly. We are still repairing road damage in Las Vegas and I don't think we were hit as hard as California was hit.

  41. This year I've decided to skip the buggy weighing. Most everyone who has been to a buggy roundup knows what their car weighs by now plus that takes up a bunch of time that we can use for duning. We'll still have dune trivia and the raffle though! I just wanna have more time in the dunes with everyone. I think ~2-3PM will be a good time for trivia and raffle. It'll still allow time for a sunset run and sunset hill. Let's just hope the W cooperates this year!

  42. The 20/21 season is slowly coming to a close. Easter Weekend is the last official holiday of the season. It's never a super busy one, but it's a tradition for duners that haven't hung it up yet. Usually the temperatures are tipping into the 90's by this weekend, but the weather has been unseasonably cool this year. It's looking like we'll see low 80's for a daytime high. Daylight savings time has already kicked in so that means an extra hour of daylight to rip around those dunes! Easter Weekend no holiday pass is required, but you need at least a non-holiday season or weekly pass there usually aren't many vendors who show up this late in the season, but keep an eye on the forum. Drags at 3PM each day on the back stretch

  43. That's very disappointing to see. And many people think dumpsters solve trash problems at Dumont on holiday weekends. This is a prime example of what would happen. They get overfilled and cause an a bigger trash problem. Just haul out what you brought in.

  45. Please come join the Friends of Dumont Dunes for this event. Dumont needs it more after this crazy busy year. Its been heartbreaking to see all the posts of trash left behind. It looks like this year is going to be a great one! Hot BBQ lunch for everyone who participates! Quick draw raffle prizes, 1 ticket for every trash bags gathered. The prizes are still rolling in! There are several prize packages being donated from shops, businesses and individuals in the off road community! Trophies for the most bags gathered for individual and group, largest item found and strangest item found! DM me if you want to donate prizes from the Las Vegas area and can't make the event, for a pick up or one of the drop off locations.

  46. Hey Gary thanks for reaching out and posting up what happened. I'm glad your nephew is ok and wasn't hurt! The guy who put up the swingset is already making plans to remove it and upgrade it from what I have heard. There are many others who have helped to volunteer as well. I just hope that it doesn't happen again. I have mixed feelings on these things that have popping up at Dumont over the last year or so. The swingset is cool and a fun place to visit, especially for the kids, but without having a set of safety standards, routine checks and maintenance, this is what is bound to happen. I know it is a huge liability for the BLM. The swingset at Glamis is insanely overbuilt and nothing has happened to it. Maybe the Dumont swingset builders can take notes? 😄 Welcome to DDR by the way!
